To think that people living on welfare shouldn't be running off every five minutes for a new tattoo or piercing?

I'm probably going to get shot down for this, but I just had a little disagreement with a woman I know. She posted a photo on Facebook of a rather large tattoo on her forearm that she'd just had done. Last month she had skin divers put in her chest and hand. The month before she had another shit tattoo.
This individual is single and has two children. She hasn't worked a day in the last decade, but is living off the state. Am I being a bitch by thinking she should spend the money she receives on feeding the children and keeping a roof over their heads? I noted that she feeds her boys Pot Noodle for dinner but makes sure she's got her fags too. It just annoys me.

I'm amazed that pissing your money up the wall on tattoos is acceptable to you all. Is this the tattooed benefits claimant discussion board?

No it AIBU where on any given day you can get 100s of posts of support or your arse handed to you.
Congratulations OP today its the latter grin*

I think with posts like this one you made earlier, I could be forgiven for thinking you weren't up for a sensible discussion, SookiesSocks - just up for handing the OP her arse Hmm

expatinscotland · 09/03/2017 21:36

'I think food stamps are the way to go.'

Yeah, works so well in the US. Hmm

JacquettaW · 09/03/2017 21:36

Draylon I appreciate that. I do kind of understand the principles behind the thread but it's been done in entirely the wrong way. Of course the children should come first (my DS always does) but the OP seems to have so much hatred.
I work only PT because I have a DS who is autistic and I'm a single parent
It's all about budgeting

IonaNE, another DM twat.

malificent7 · 09/03/2017 21:37

What if she has got fabulous body art like my extremely expensive back tattoo? I think there should be a fund to gelo benefit claimants to get decent tattoos rather than shit tattoos!

Alfieisnoisy · 09/03/2017 21:38

It's crap that many people working full time earn so little that they need benefits. I have many relatives in Switzerland and who are Swiss nationals. Even those in quite menial work earn enough money to pay rent...they don't need any top up to do so either.

malificent7 · 09/03/2017 21:38

Help benefit claimsnts even!!

SootyShearwater · 09/03/2017 21:38

What's the 'sensible discussion'? If you believe a child is being neglected, you report the parent to the authorities. The benefits have been capped. If a child is being neglected, you report it.

You can also discuss it on an internet forum which is created for discussing things, ExpatinScotland? One doesn't preclude the other, so there's not only one option.

SaorAlbaGuBrath · 09/03/2017 21:39

And now the OP is stating that she actually prefers abusive, violent men because they don't claim as many benefits, and victim shaming those who do. How the hell is anyone supposed to argue with that level of snobbery and stupidity?

What part of the OP was a sensible discussion sooty?
It was a slagging off. Not a discussion.

PortiaCastis · 09/03/2017 21:41

Just as an aside this article is worth a read

www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2016/may/11/big-benefits-myth-tories-half-families-low-incomes-not-claiming-welfare

Alfieisnoisy · 09/03/2017 21:42

OP, if any parent prioritises a tattoo over the needs of their child then YANBU to be annoyed. Whether the claim benefits is immaterial...crap parenting is crap parenting.

I totally agree with you being cross but I think you are being cross about the wrong thing. It's the poor parenting that's the issue and not the benefits,

Lweji · 09/03/2017 21:42

It depends on whether you care about the children or are just indignant that your taxes are apparently paying someone else's tattoos.

Can't believe people eat pot noodles with ketchup?! What is wrong with you?!

I can't believe half of you lot think a pot of worms noodle is a delicacy personally Grin

5OBalesofHay · 09/03/2017 21:43

Do you want to see my goats? They live in the garden. They are naughty.

Trust me....go nowhere NEAR the Mac n Cheese one...even my husband who is an utter philistine and loves Pot Noodles thinks it is disgusting.

PenelopeFlintstone · 09/03/2017 21:45

I agree that, unless her tattoo was free, she should prioritise swimming lessons over tattoos. Or at least teach them to swim herself.
(I also used to love the bolognese pot noodles.)

Majorgoodwinschickenbeatstrump · 09/03/2017 21:47

Alfieisnoisy has hit nail on head here to me. This is shit parenting, yet too many people read the word 'benefits' and fall to default position of calling the OP a goady cunt. Shit parenting makes me 100000000000 more upset than someone claiming benefits and this clearly is it. And to whoever said we all have shit parenting moments sometimes, yes maybe, but not giving your child the basics and really indulging yourself then bragging about it is just plain wrong.

CrossCountryRunner · 09/03/2017 21:48

Majorgoodwinschickenbeatstrump

If you find yourself out of work again there is a charity called Dress for Success that will provide you with interview clothes and a capsule wardrobe of business wear for when you start work. They only have a few branches in the UK but I got a lovely wardrobe including a nearly new Italian suit. They even provided me with several pairs of brand new tights and a handbag. The clothes are good quality and new or nearly new. A lot are designer. You need a referral from the job centre.

Lweji · 09/03/2017 21:48

I don't know. Tattoos are forever, but if she never takes them near the water they don't need swimming lessons. And they can learn when they earn their own benefits.

Dontactlikeyouknowme · 09/03/2017 21:50

MN is obsessed with bloody swimming lessons.

Am I the only one wondering what sort of tattoo £165 gets you?

I wouldn't know as don't have any.
