Wanting to work instead of college

Hi everyone, so basically I don't want to go to college and I've gotten myself a job but my parents are not being supportive at all. AIBU to want to move out and go to work? ATBU saying I'm ruining my life and that I shouldn't do what will make me happy? I'm so confused and I'm in a lose-lose situation.

I didn't finish college. I've got FA in the way of qualifications but I've got a semi professional job and ok I'm no high flyer but I'm fine. There was no point in me staying in college. It's not for everyone and you won't necessarily be successful or unsuccessful because of it. Independence is good too.

Why do your parents think you need to go to college?

It can't be because you need qualifications to get a job because you have that already.

Have you asked them why it is so important for you to spend 2 years doing something you hate to get to a lesser position than where you are already.

I wonder do they want what is best for you or best for them given if you go to college they will lose a few hundred in benefits whilst you lose over a £1000 each month

Hey everyone, quick update

I've chosen to go for the job as it's the best thing for my MH.

Thank you everyone who commented here, it really helped me make my final decision Smile

Good, glad you're strong enough to make a decision that's best for you not your parents.
Good luck!!

Op. Good luck! See if you can take some qualifications part-time or distance learning on the side. Quite a lot of jobs will disappear as we become more digitised, being highly skilled will do you no harm.

Good luck disney! Getting a job is a good thing. Its all part of growing up. You will learn a hell of a lot more about life there than sat in a class room. Unless there is something in particular you want to study then the job was the best option. Well done to you for standing up for what you want. Keep it up and make yourself happy! Xx
