I'm in no position to join the grammar police but some MNetters might be grateful to learn that

all intensive purposes should actually be: all intents and purposes

per say should be: per se

mute point should be: moot point

'Putthatpombearback' - apropos of which, saw the word 'diarrhoea' written as 'dire rear' once . 😂 Which is certainly an accurate description of said problem!

TinfoilHattie · 10/03/2017 13:49

My cousin posted this this on Fb she was so cross about the grammar

I always used to misspell diarrhoea wrongly until I learned the mnemonic - dash in a real rush hurry or else accident.

musicmaiden · 10/03/2017 14:32

Great mnemonic, Hattie, I've not come across that before. But I feel obliged to mention (and I wouldn't usually, as it would make me an arse, but given the nature of the thread and all), that you're can't misspell something wrongly – you can misspell it or you can spell it wrongly Wink

musicmaiden · 10/03/2017 14:34

See, and I wrote 'you're can't'. It's Muphry's law in action.

I'm sat in my chair, but I'm going to have to have a lay down now. Don't get me started on 'I was Like'.

Don't know what happened there, I certainly didn't intend to post 4 times Blush

Shematt · 10/03/2017 16:02

'Could of', instead of' Could have'. A-a-a-argh! Angry

Deadsouls · 10/03/2017 16:05

Your being unreasonable

Topseyt · 10/03/2017 16:21

Tow the line irritates me. Just saw it on another thread.

It is TOE the line.

Shematt · 10/03/2017 16:23

and for heaven's sake, the letter 'h' is pronounced 'aitch' not 'haitch'. (Sigh - that sounds so thick).

Shematt · 10/03/2017 16:28

Can't think of nuffink worse!

Isn't that regional?

TheMysteriousJackelope · 10/03/2017 20:20

Fortunately as I live in the US I can spell it as diarrhea. So much easier.

ChardonnayKnickertonSmythe · 10/03/2017 20:22

This thread has been rediculously devine.

StealthPolarBear · 10/03/2017 20:32

Back too the drawring bored op

Deadsouls · 10/03/2017 20:44

Who'ed have thunk it?

Floggingmolly · 11/03/2017 13:11

Yes, amis, the aitch/haitch thing absolutely is regional. There's a whole wide world out there...
Haitch is a perfectly normal pronunciation in Ireland, for example.
Maybe it's a greater demonstration of thickness not to realise that and sneer anyway?

anxious2017 · 11/03/2017 20:15

No, no, no. Haitch is not regional. It is wrong. Totally and completely wrong. Who on earth says N Haitch S?!

amispartacus · 11/03/2017 20:22

I say haitch. I am Northern
