I'm in no position to join the grammar police but some MNetters might be grateful to learn that

all intensive purposes should actually be: all intents and purposes

per say should be: per se

mute point should be: moot point

'make hens meet', ie. an introductory service for chickens.

Grin Am imagining a Far Side style-cartoon of chicken speed-dating.

Packergator · 08/03/2017 13:42

Grin

OnTheUp13 · 08/03/2017 13:44

Now that's just ridiculous. Grin

IWantAnotherBaby · 08/03/2017 13:52

LOVING this thread. I admit I'm a grammar pedant.
"Bowl in a china shop" anyone? And "from the gecko"? Grin

Katedotness1963 · 08/03/2017 13:53

If you think this thread will make a difference, you've got another thing coming...

I think the first MN thread I posted on was think/thing.

maras2 · 08/03/2017 14:00

in the words of del boy Que'lle Fromage ! Grin

TinfoilHattie · 08/03/2017 14:04

I am loving "from the gecko".

Megatherium · 08/03/2017 14:33

"School roles" always gets to me - how can people conceivably think a word meaning an actor's part in a play, or the part played by a person or thing in a particular situation, can conceivably be correct for a list of pupils in a school? Yet schools themselves are frequently amongst the worst offenders.

iremembericod · 08/03/2017 14:39

Every year an acquaintance writes on Facebook the following statement about their lost relative:

It's been 5 years but I hope you are having fun in haven.

3luckystars · 08/03/2017 14:45

I am not an expert and frequently make mistakes but can anyone here clarify this one thing that really gets to me.
I have often read on here "I left it on top of the chest of draws" and I don't want to ask because it's nothing to do with the thread, whether the passport is in the "draws" or the drawers, but I can barely look at it.

3luckystars · 08/03/2017 14:46

Is it wrong?

LiviaDrusillaAugusta · 08/03/2017 14:47

It's drawers so yes it's wrong

LaughterisGoodMedicine · 08/03/2017 14:54

iremembericod Could it be the person is trying to put a spin on 'heaven'?
maybe the departed one loved going to Haven park on holiday whilst alive

Previously1488218868 · 08/03/2017 14:58

So, it is defiantly time for advocado on otast, I brought some the other day.

ToastVacuum · 08/03/2017 14:58

"pore over a book" not "pour over a book"
"pique his curiosity" not "peek/peak his curiosity"
"toe the line" not "tow the line"
"bated breath" not "baited breath"
"fazed by the challenge" not "phased by the challenge"
"regardless" not "irregardless"

Previously1488218868 · 08/03/2017 14:58

or toast

ToastVacuum · 08/03/2017 14:59

Thanks for the avocado!

Isitjustmeorisiteveryoneelse · 08/03/2017 15:00

Just been on another thread where a PP has described something basic as Bob standard. Nearly did myself a mischief. I'm not laughing at, I'm laughing with, ok?

froomeonthebroom · 08/03/2017 15:06

Bone apple tea everyone

delicateears · 08/03/2017 15:09

Who axed yous anyway?

MutePoint · 08/03/2017 15:14

"pore over a book" not "pour over a book"

You know, I've never written that sentence but if I had, I think I would have written pour Blush

And I'm the snotty, sneery OP!

Of course you are Isitjustme.

You just keep telling yourself that.

Did you tell the poster you were going to scuttle over and talk about them on another thread so they could come and laugh as well?
