My friend and I are shopping, and see an outfit that we both like.
Friend says 'oh I think that will look great, you should get it, it will give you an incentive to lose a few pounds.
Yeah, lose around 5 pounds, what you need is a sickness bug, I know that's what did the trick for me'
All said in jest in a 'nice' way of course. The subject also keeps getting mentioned. Also this is quite a typical comment of said friend.
It's like she's trying to bring it to my attention to make me aware, for my own best interests.

For the record I do need to lose a few pounds, I know it but I never go on about it.

Am I being over sensitive by thinking it's not a very nice thing for a friend to say or should I suck it up as being just simple honesty.

Like I say, this is a rather typical comment from her, so it is the bigger picture that's bothering me not just this incident.

This woman isn't your friend, or even a nice person. Ditch her and get some real friends.

I wouldn't dream of commenting negatively on my friends' appearances, no matter what I thought might need "changing". That would just be nasty and cruel.

I would never say that to a friend

Specialagentblond · 06/03/2017 21:29

Your friend sounds a little insecure, and a bit pretentious. I could do with a half stone gone and people ( my mother) do mention it to me. I've honed my reply to either "I'm in such a happy place right now, why would I want to make myself miserable by going on a diet" or " I'm just not that self obsessed enough to worry about my weight. "

Or just ignore, your 5lbs is her problem, not yours x

xStefx I'd like to say 3, but in reality it would be 2. Blush

Quite a few of my friends could do with losing some weight. But I would never, ever, in a million years dream of saying anything to them (or even about them).

Firstly, I'm quite sure they're aware of that fact themselves. Secondly, I'm not a bitch, which is what anyone saying that to their "friends" is.
