Never posted here before but me and DH are having a discussion about what to do.

We have a driveway next to our house, our car is parked on our driveway. Our neighbours always have lots of cars around their house (2 on drive way, one in front on their house, one in front of our house). Today someone has parked their car in front of my drive, totally blocking in my car.

Have knocked on both neighbours - one didn't know whose it was. The other (the one with all the cars) wasn't in.

DH went out to put a note on the car and found the door was ajar. He's now talking about putting it in gear and pushing it down the road. I have a feeling this might be slightly illegal!

We go in holiday tomorrow at 930am and therefore need the car.

Thoughts?!!!

Can't believe you didn't sound the klaxon.

DrinksFewAndPeopleMany · 05/03/2017 21:36

Move it
OMFG it's a parking one. Love a parking one. Popcorn!

BonnesVacances · 05/03/2017 21:37

Take a photo first so you can prove it was in the way before you moved it.

londonrach · 05/03/2017 21:39

Move it! Although i might phone 101 before to tell them.

Report to police first... If it's been knocked from somewhere you don't want them thinking you did it!

StarryIllusion · 05/03/2017 21:40

Well if they were in such a hurry they forgot to shut the door properly, is it really so out there that they might have forgotten to put the handbrake on? I'd push it round the corner and hide it. Then if they knock just give them a blank look and say "What car? That blue one? That drove off ages ago." and shut the door to watch through the window as they panic. Grin

nbee84 · 05/03/2017 21:40

It could only be moved forwards or backwards surely? I think as soon as you try to turn the steering wheel the steering lock comes on.

bigglesgoggles · 05/03/2017 21:40

If moving it, check whether steering locked first.
I had a similar situation once. Car unlocked so sat it, took off handbrake and let car gentle roll forward.......except realised couldn't turn steering wheel! Reapplied handbrake pretty sharpish as heading into road away from kerb!

emmabrown123 · 05/03/2017 21:41

I just don't see why they've parked there! It's a cul de sac and there's a little square area at the end where you could easily park and not block anyone. It's just an extra 50m walk Shock

Call 101 to report it blocking your drive. They'll give you advice.

YANBU to move it (certainly there is no excuse for them leaving it there) ... but you would be uninsured, and taking a car without permission (theft by another name). If the policeman happened to catch you at it and was in a grumpy mood you'd be up the creek without a paddle.

Worst-case scenario: I can't find the link but there was a case a year or so ago where a lady moved her brother-in-law's car (with his permission, just to save him the bother) from her drive. Her foot slipped off the clutch, the car slammed forward into the mobility scooter that happened to be using the pavement immediately in front at the time. The lady was in court for causing death by dangerous driving, while uninsured.

Obviously it's an extreme example, she had horrific luck... but personally I'd think twice, three times and then again!

HaveTeaWillSurvive · 05/03/2017 21:43

Yasss! A parking thread!! Give them till 10.30 then defo shift it!

emmabrown123 · 05/03/2017 21:43

Begadsandbyjingo · 05/03/2017 21:45

You can get it towed. I've seen it happen several times on my road. Moving it yourselves will be doing them a favour as if it is towed it will cost quite a bit to get it released. Would totally serve them right though - selfish gits.

buckeejit · 05/03/2017 21:46

That's so shit-move it defo and have a good holiday. If it is the neighbours be sure to point out how rude & dangerous they/friends are!

elephantoverthehill · 05/03/2017 21:48

Why put it in gear? Trying to move it will activate the steering lock a pp have said.

CherieBabySpliffUp · 05/03/2017 21:48

Posting for update Grin

Mummyrowland · 05/03/2017 21:48

So was it theirs?

FannyFifer · 05/03/2017 21:49

I would definitely move it.

SelfObsessionHoney · 05/03/2017 21:49

Waiting....

RiversrunWoodville · 05/03/2017 21:50

Ooh if not theirs I'd definitely move it

MadMags · 05/03/2017 21:50

Aw 🙁 I wish you'd moved it before they came home.

SlothMama · 05/03/2017 21:50

I wouldn't move it, I feel like I would somehow get in trouble for doing it! Give 101 a call, when my drive got blocked in they were able to contact the owners to get it moved.

Spadequeen · 05/03/2017 21:51

Ooh I love a parking thread.

Place marking? Me? Never!
