Totally agree. Not enough to start a thread on it - but pleased someone else feels the same!

10Betty10 · 05/03/2017 19:45

I couldn't agree more!!!! I blame Pinterest.

ToastDemon · 05/03/2017 19:46

Yes. Where did this "hack" shite spring from? If it's from hacking as in computers then they are misapplying it.

YellowDinosaur · 05/03/2017 19:46

YES. YES YES YES!

LucklessMonster · 05/03/2017 19:46

YANBU. Irritating phrase.

missyB1 · 05/03/2017 19:46

Totally agree, it's been winding me up every time I see that thread!

CaraAspen · 05/03/2017 19:47

Enough already

Irony much?!

ArriettyClock1 · 05/03/2017 19:51

ILikeSalmon · 05/03/2017 19:58

Very American and internetty
The words "Life Hacks" really pisses me off.

BankWadger · 05/03/2017 19:58

YANBU!

ChuckDaffodils · 05/03/2017 20:04

I got short shrift when I complained about it last year.

charliewolf · 05/03/2017 20:56

And why is everybody suddenly calling macaroni cheese, mac and cheese?

Bananasandchocolatecustard · 05/03/2017 20:58

I agree, it's a tip, not a hack. Mac and cheese is American.

MoonlightandMusic · 05/03/2017 21:05

YANBU and MNHQ quoting that well known font of inaccuracy Wikipedia doesn't put them on a strong footing for that interpretation. I'm sure, however, someone will be along shortly to talk about how language evolves. Which it does, but sometimes not in the right direction. [sigh]

On the plus side though, Oxford agrees with you! Grin

Bumply · 05/03/2017 21:08

Reminds me of getting a memo from a US department of my company where they talked about a hackathon competition which was presumably meant in a positive light, but in the U.K. Means skullduggery if not criminal intent and sent shivers down our backs

blackteasplease · 05/03/2017 22:01

I hate it too.

FeliciaJollygoodfellow · 05/03/2017 22:04

It's also 'addictive' not 'addicting'. I really hate all this 'totally addicting cake recipe' type shite.

Crunchyside · 05/03/2017 22:07

Bumply I work for an American company and they hold hackathons in all their locations around the world... I think it's considered an okay term for people in the tech industry as its quite a common event these days, not just with American companies but startups, tech companies, corporations etc.

AYankinSpanx · 05/03/2017 22:07

Hack doesn't irk me too much, to be honest.

'Adulting' however, has been snatched up by all the people who also say 'nom' as far as as I can tell. They probably say lol as well.

All somewhat irritating.

Niminy · 05/03/2017 22:07

Yes to all.

Also relatable, which ought to be punishable by death Angry

Schwifty · 05/03/2017 22:09

totes agree!

It hacks me off, chortle.

Originalfoogirl · 05/03/2017 22:09

Yes. And yes to all of these.

I will add "skill set". It's just skills. 😡

BzyB · 05/03/2017 22:14

My teenager and I use it frequently in a jokey way. Like when I bumped into doorway earlier she shouted "life hack! Try walking through the empty space to have an amazing pain free experience!"
I quite like adulting though but doubt I'd ever say it out loud.
