To ask for POSITIVE induction experiences?

Posting here for traffic mainly, also when I search the question in MN, the server wouldn't open most of the topic pages 🙄

I am booked in for an induction this Wednesday. I am fully aware of the risks of c section, how long and drawn the whole process can be. I am a realist, but I would like to think positive, so if anyone could share a positive experience with me I'd be very grateful. Smile

Oh, I'm 38 weeks and it's my first baby.

Got booked in for induction at 41 weeks with DC1 and she came the day before!

Booshbeesh · 05/03/2017 19:05

1st baby - induced at 11pm had baby at 1am. 2 hours she was out. 3 rd one was c sec. Went in epidural 40 mins later i was sewn up with babe in arms drinking a cup of tea with a french fancy.....all good things all good thingss

2 out of 3 induced here. First took two days of pessaries then a drip. The epidural paralysed my legs and did nothing for contractions so felt them all but could move. Ventouse delivery, tore lots and was left covered in muck till next morning and I could walk to the shower.

Third delivery was constantly monitored and not allowed to move. Baby was back to back and pain was incredible, Gas and air was all I was allowed and I actually passed out with pain at one point. Found out later I should have had c section as baby was wedged fast for a long time but no anaesthetist available.

One in between was natural, I could move freely and didn't need pain relief.

Whatever you do don't go in on a Friday and remember however it happens you get a baby at the end of it so it's all worth it.

downwardfacingdog · 05/03/2017 19:08

Induced twice. Both times took one pessary and contractions started straight away.
1st baby 41 + 2, pessary about 5pm. ARM around 1am (they weren't going to do it as was in labour when they checked me previously, but DS wasn't happy so they wanted to speed things up) DS born at 2.40am. No pain relief (tried g&a but was sick and tried again) Was painful but only worse then subsequent natural labours because I couldn't use the g&a, but didn't enjoy it as felt quite scary though had an excellent MW.
4th and 5th babies (twins) induced at 38wks. Pessary at 4pm. Monitored for an hour. Regular contractions pretty much straight away. ARM at 10pm, gas and air, twin one born at 11.46. Twin 2 born at 11.53. Excellent birth, pain only unbearable for the few contractions around transition, no stitches.

Induced at 41 weeks, 5 hours later baby delivered, natural birth and a small cut. It was absolutely fine!

karmacoma1 · 05/03/2017 19:20

These are all great stories! Shown some of them to DH and we're feeling a lot more confident about agreeing to induce - had one very negative midwife this afternoon who seemed determined to make me feel bad for going for it Hmm

Thank you all very much Smile

I was induced at 35 weeks. I had a c section but really a c section is absolutely fine. If I have another baby I'll request a section.

OhHolyFuck · 05/03/2017 19:30

DS1 was induced at 40 weeks
Had the pessary at 9.30am, had to lie still for an hour
Then encouraged to walk around and get things moving so pottered round the hospital and sneaked out to subway for lunch
Second pessary at 6.30pm, started with period type pains soon after
They got stronger in intensity/duration until I went to birthing suite at about 10pm
Had some diamorphine and slept between contractions until my waters broke at 12.30am
2 pushes and DS1 born at 12.45am

Was perfectly fine, good luck

ZigZagIntoTheBlue · 05/03/2017 19:33

I was induced with ds2,it was fairly intense but a very quick labour. All good, only a very small tear and I had a bigger tear previously with ds1 and a 'natural' delivery. Best of luck Grin

limon · 05/03/2017 19:34

The induction process for me was fine - and I have had worse periods than the pain I experienced until nearing the end of labour.

I had issues to do with having a back to back forehead presentation baby but not the induction.

seventhgonickname · 05/03/2017 19:46

Another good experience here.Had pessaries over night which did nothing. They were discussed my what next but at 1030 contractions started, waters broken at 12,DD born at 1 pm.I was mostly surprised as I too have had worse periods and the pushing bit didn't hurt, just a sting as the head comes through and in my case another sting as her elbow followed doing a bit of damage.Good luck.

Vanillaradio · 05/03/2017 19:56

Well I was induced and it didn't work and I had a c section. But to me it was a positive story because the c section went absolutely fine, I was up and about and off pain killers very quickly and had no problems at all. And I have a beautiful and healthy ds. Hopefully your induction will succeed but just bear in mind that if you end up with a cs it is not necessarily a bad thing.

Happilymarried155 · 05/03/2017 20:00

I was induced in the morning, walked around all day, went to sleep, woke up in the middle of the night and had our little one two hours later! It was all very positive!

Take lots to do and walk, walk, walk! Good luck

MrsNuckyThompson · 05/03/2017 20:01

Please please please also remember that a c section is not the end of the world.

There is so much rhetoric about it being a terrible outcome and the last thing anyone would want but it isn't necessarily the case and provided you get your lovely baby and you safely out the other side that's the main thing!!

IndigoSister · 05/03/2017 20:02

I've been induced twice, once planned once not.

DS1 was 35 weeks and I sprang a leak, had been leaking for 24 hours so was induced due to risk of infection. No gel, just pitocin and had an epidural. 12 hour labour.

DS2 planned induction at 37 weeks due to him measuring very large. Again pitocin, epidural and 12 hour labour. Did have an episiotomy as his shoulders got stuck, he was 9.5lbs.

Maybe not the perfect natural birth but I got 2 healthy babies.

Beth2511 · 05/03/2017 20:04

i had a foley balloon cathetar induction. was inserted at 3pm, sod all until forst contraction at 19.00, he was born 19.33

ollieplimsoles · 05/03/2017 20:05

Another lovely induction story here op, and it really felt like the end of the world for me because i planned a homebirth but DD was over due.

Was induced with gel, at around 8pm. All fine but I kept very active, had a very pleasant easy labour overnight and had dd at 5:45 the next morning, gas and air only.
Whatever happens, you are not to 'blame' in any way, and you are in good hands- keep walking too!

twinkle1990 · 05/03/2017 20:08

I have had 2 with inductions, 2 normal deliveries and 'real' labour was quick (5 hours and 45 mins) didn't even have pain relief the second time. You will be fine, best of luck

Tastesjustlikecherrycola85 · 05/03/2017 21:22

My DS arrived 3 hours after being induced, it was very quick but more intense compared to my first non-induced which was a lot longer

bungleZippy12 · 05/03/2017 21:28

Mine was positive! Induced at 2 weeks overdue. 4 hours later I was holding my daughter.

angelikacpickles · 05/03/2017 21:31

I had a great induction on my first. I was induced at 39 weeks for high blood pressure. No gel as my waters could be broken without it. Contractions started once waters were broken and I had no syntocin. DD was born 12 hours after waters broken. Didn't need the epidural but did have a bit of pethidine.

toolonglurking · 05/03/2017 21:42

I was induced after my waters broke but then nothing happened, midwife told me it was going to be more painful Hmm so I was terrified.
Was put straight on the drip at 11am, kept mobile, asked for gas and air at about 1pm, had a beautiful baby boy in my arms by 3.30pm.
All totally manageable and if I'm honest I can't wait to do it all again with number 2 (if we get lucky enough to have a number 2)
Good luck, stay as chilled as you can (the calmer you are, the easier the whole process is) and you'll be fine!

CalebHadToSplit · 05/03/2017 21:45

I was induced at 42 weeks.

Pessary at 8pm, contractions started at 9am. Had paracetamol, a bath on the ward, then codeine, followed by gas and air and a baby at 5pm.

It was not as bad as I thought it would be. As I kept progressing well, they didn't need to manually break waters, which was something that I was worried about.

Best of luck, OP. Hope it all goes smoothly for you.

blackteasplease · 05/03/2017 21:49

Totally fine for me both times

DD induced at 38 + 3. All fine - contractions started before the nurse had even finished doing the pessary. 12 hours in total. Didn't need drugs.

DS was induced at 40 weeks. 3 hours in total.

Notanotherpawpatrol · 05/03/2017 21:50

DC1 I had strep b, so waters went. I went into hospital and had abx, pessary put in walked around for a while, hooked up to drip, 6 hours later baby was in my arms. It was painful and uncomfortable, but all labours are!
DC3, was induced due to measuring big, pessary put in an hour later I was contracting, went to delivery suite and 31 minutes later baby was in my arms. It was intense and painful, but I did it with paracetomal, a wheat bag and a tens machine!
DC2 was my natural birth and was the worst expiearience. I won't go into it, but I'm currently pregnant with DC4 and will be getting an induction date on Wednesday, 1 and 3 were by far my best labours and for me I think it was because i was ready, prepared and knew what was going on as they talked me through exactly what was going on at every stage. My natural birth I felt on the back foot and like I wasn't in as much control.
