To stop selling on eBay

Because they're just geared to protect the buyer.

Just had to swallow a fairly big (to me) loss as eBay always give in to the sodding purchaser. Their claim was bullshit.

Another item didn't arrive. I had proof of postage; yet it's down to me to refund them chase Royal Mail. Fucks sake.

I think the point is manic is that buyers pretend they didn't receive the item when they did.

BarbaraofSeville · 05/03/2017 15:29

Agree that it's all too skewed in the buyer's favour and there are some fuckwit buyers out there who expect the moon on a stick, but yes, as the seller, it's up to you to deal with Royal Mail and at least if you make a claim with them, you'll get some or all of your losses back.

HeavenlyEyes · 05/03/2017 15:29

proof of postage is pointless - why risk it? Send with tracking - I use Hermes who are much better than RM. Upload the tracking on dispatch and then nobody can lie about not receiving. Terms of Paypal mean you need to send tracked - this will soon put a stop to lying buyers conning you.

Bumblebiscuits · 05/03/2017 15:34

Absolutely hate eBay. Buyers pull out after auction, turn up and then decide they don't want item after all after I stayed in all day. Really can't be bothered with it now, rather give things away. All down to eBay no longer allowing buyers to receive negative feedback. They all take advantage now.

fuckkit · 05/03/2017 18:38

I refunded the buyer immediately for the 'lost' item and I'm claiming from Royal Mail. It's not her fault.

But it stings that, despite having physical proof that I've honoured my end of the deal, I'm still responsible for refunding and claiming. eBay should refund the seller and claim from Royal Mail. Fuckers.

karalime · 05/03/2017 18:55

Yabu. eBay and Paypal's rules are clear.

You will be protected as a seller if you post using a tracked service. You didn't, so you lost.

newroundhere · 05/03/2017 19:05

Sorry, not the point of the thread but I've had several deliveries from Hermes where they've left items on my porch but the tracking says they've got a signature. Wouldn't trust them as far as I could throw them.

And OP - YANBU. It's much more of a hassle than it used to be and buyers seem to get in touch must more often and ask for stupid things.

fuckkit · 05/03/2017 19:15

kara I'm well aware of the rules. My main beef is that when a buyer lies about the condition of an item, eBay refund them regardless of whether they're full of shit.

Jayfee · 05/03/2017 19:15

I wish there was a site that was a real auction. A real auction does not close at a set time, but when bids stop. It would be easy for ebay to keep an auction going at the end whilst bids are still coming in. That way you would at least have a chance of getting a reasonable price. List too low, and people wait really late and miss out, ften to skype bids. list too high and nobody bids.
sorry its off topic

worridmum · 05/03/2017 20:26

Even if you send tracked ebay STILL refund the buyer even when they bloody sign for it from my experence.

fuckkit · 05/03/2017 20:34

Doesn't surprise me.

Im on maternity leave and trying to make a little but of cash from baby items and kids clothes. 99% ive had good experiences but was stopped in my tracks a couple of months ago when a buyer raised a refund claim that they hadnt recieved a £20 perfume....before expected date of arrival (day after i posted second class) and without any prior contact to me to check it had been posted. Totally fake claim and looking at her feedback she had made about 100 purchases of random things within 2 months, never gave feedback herself to seller - i suspect she pulled the same stunt before creating a new account. EBay automatically refunded her but i was unable to make a claim as royal mail wont refund items such as perfume sent in the post as they could destroy such items if they consider a hazard. Thankfully i was able to update my feedback to caution others and also made a complaint to ebay that this was clearly a scam. In all honesty it upset me that people are so dishonest- there i was trying to make a couple of quid to support me on mat leave and someone just thinks if they can get away with it theyll do it. Stopped selling for a bit but im skint again and just restarted now but very wary of what i sell, signing for specific items etc.

Sabsy1 · 05/03/2017 20:45

I had similar problem. EBay refunded the buyer after a tracked item was signed for. So as I see it there's no point selling bits and pieces, which has no high value and then to have a hassle. Stopped altogether, I now use local sell/buy pages.

If you pay for tracked and they then claim there's something wrong with it you have to swallow that and then the return charge. It's infuriating.

19lottie82 · 05/03/2017 21:16

Why did you have to swallow a big loss? Surely you could just accept the return and get the item back?

Also, to maintain your seller protection you MUST send item with a proof of delivery. Regular post isn't acceptable or you're just leaving yourself being wide open to getting scammed. Obviously in some situations it isn't financially worth it if the items are low value, but you can claim back from Royal Mail.

Sundance01 · 05/03/2017 21:23

I stopped buying from ebay for exactly the reason you are saying.

I had a parcel left in my wheelie bin by courier and the bin men came. I spoke to courier who fully accepted responsibility and was happy to refund postage and cost of the item

BUT IT IS THE PERSON WHO PAYS THE POSTAGE WHO TAKES OUR THE CONTRACT WITH THE COURIER therefore it is only them the courier can refund.

As the recipient I had no contract with the service therefore cannot get the refund.

The compay even gave me a code to give the seller so he could ring and get through to the right person to get it processed quickly. The seller refused saying it was not his responsibility as the parcel had been delivered.

Why is this so hard for people to understand. I took out a grievance with eBay and they found in my favour and refunded me all the money but I was so disgusted they allowed the seller to continue I have never shopped on ebay again

I am sorry OP but you are in the wrong as the contractor with the postage company It is your responsibility to chase.

NightTerrier · 05/03/2017 21:51

I recently ordered something off eBay and it hasn't turned up. I've contacted the seller and she keeps ignoring me. Not all buyers are trying to scam people. It's annoying as the seller could have sent the item with tracking.

228agreenend · 05/03/2017 22:03

I've just put on a few things on ebay. Now I'm regretting it after reading all, these horror stories!

Do people ever have any success on facebook sites. I had the same stuff on their previously. Two people were interested in one sale, bit they turned out to be unsuitable in the end,,so no sale. A third person haggled a discount, which I accepted,,and then expected me to drive to a neigbourimg town to deliver them (an hour round journey plus petrol) as she didn't drive. I declined!

What other sites,do people use! Gumtree? Shpock?

19lottie82 · 05/03/2017 22:06

sundance why on earth would eBay ban a seller for not refunding you when the parcel status showed the parcel as delivered?
What's to stop the seller thinking you were attempting to scam them by claiming the parcel hadn't been delivered?

I understand your frustration but it's not really fair to take this out on the seller.

Rather than avoiding eBay altogether surely it would make more sense to avoid sellers that use shoddy courier companies, and stick to Royal Mail. Not entirely risk free but they seem to be more reliable and less likely to leave your parcel in a wheely bin.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 05/03/2017 22:21

As a buyer I pay instantly and as a seller I list honestly and post promptly. Why can't everyone do this?

Plenty of us DO do this, but "little sellers" still get shafted by ebay's determination to side with lying, cheating buyers. Nor are Customer Services any use, staffed as it is by barely-English-speaking, script reading robots

The only time it will change is if profits start to fall, but with big business sellers being prioritized now I can't see it happening any time soon Hmm

fuckkit · 05/03/2017 22:27

There are many infuriating pricks on Facebook selling sites but at least you are spared the hassle and bollocks of eBay.

OP posts:
SantasLittleMonkeyButler · 05/03/2017 22:33

I'm an eBay Business Seller. I do get the odd buyer that are clearly just after a free item. I absolutely hate the fact that a buyer can ask to return an item, for whatever reason, and I have to provide them with free postage!

So a 99p item can cost me £2.85 to post out - and then £2.99 for the buyer to return. I will then have to refund the full £3.94 (99p + £2.85 postage charged), so trying to sell a cheap item will have actually cost me £2.99!

If eBay actually considered both sides of the transaction, I'd be much more likely to carry on as a seller.

As a buyer I pay ASAP & only complain if something is decidedly not as described. If only everyone was as honest.

SquinkiesRule · 05/03/2017 22:38

I gave up selling too.
I used to sell loads and bought a lot too. Now I just buy and donate the stuff we don't want to the local charity shops.
Really stupid complaints about things that were put in the listing that they probably never read.

feckitt · 05/03/2017 22:51

So stop. What's the problem?
