DS is in year 7 and needs grey socks for school. Boys have to wear trousers.

The bit of these that you can see are grey, only the toes and heel and very top are purple... The only reason it was spotted is because he hurt his foot on the stairs and took his shoe off when seeing school medical person, she ticked his uniform card for having incorrect uniform...

AIBU for thinking it's ridiculous?

I'd love to know what teachers in these bonkers schools think about it. I like to think that if my employers required me to check the colour of children's underwear I'd ignore it at the very least, and possibly instigate a mass revolt amongst all the staff; but clearly some people meekly enforce this sort of nonsense. Surely you'd have to wonder whether you seriously wanted to be in teaching if that is what it involves?

Unless they have quite exciting Secret Other Lives then Nonsense On Stilts has indeed caught on as A Thing. How very fine.

I was meaning Jeremy Bentham, WorshipTheGourd, who thought that the idea of natural rights was "nonsense on stilts" - his writings are where my friends & I got the phrase from. Not reading them for the craic, whilst at university - well, the Theologian just got dragged into the nonsense by the SPSer & my [ig]noble Historian self. It was probably 5th week. Things like that tend to happen in 5th week...
