Driver caused me to emergency stop and just drove off!

Hi,
I've just returned from going out with my 20 month old daughter in the car. Whilst driving along a road, a learner driver pulled out in front of me, causing me to emergency stop, the driver just carried on and swiftly drove away. Am I being unreasonable to be shocked that the driving instructor in charge didn't get out to see if we were ok, or even awknowledge what had happened. We are ok and I have his reg no.
Thanks!

In the wrong? no. Over reacting? Hell yes 🙄. Maybe leaner didn't see u as you were going round a bend and maybe you should have slowed down as it was a bend? Either way, no damage done, take a chill pill

Why do you assume there were dual controls in the learner drivers car?? You don't have to have them. The car I was taught in didn't have them.

pontynan · 01/03/2017 19:12

So the learner pulled out in front of you? What is your problem? Were you worried that you could have hit her? If you had it would almost certainly have been your fault - if you hit a car from behind it is almost always deemed to be your fault. You say it was around a bend - your responsibility to drive at a speed where you can stop within the distance you can see the road to be clear. And on top of that it was a learner driver with L plates - all the more reason you should have taken extra care. YABVU. 20 mo is irrelevant. So glad you didn't have an accident or you could well have been found guilty of DWDCA.

We all have to learn to drive. Why would you take the number? Why would they check you were ok? There was no accident. You are being too precious.

You can't claim whiplash for an emergency stop with no collision.
No damage is different to no collision.

Are you a new or anxious driver op? Honestly, this sort of thing happens all the time, people make mistakes/misjudge things and you will often have to emergency stop/swerve/slow right down to avoid an accident due to other people's poor driving/mistakes. It's just part of driving.
Yes, it's annoying, particularly when people don't say sorry. You can't expect people to check you're ok though unless there has been an accident.

Maybe reading about what is/isn't illegal may give you more confidence, you might then have known you didn't need is registration as memorising it and stopping to write this down would have meant your full attention was not on your own driving and it would have saved you getting cross/upset thinking that he broke the law/should have stopped.

littledinaco · 01/03/2017 19:57

Pontynan that is incorrect. The op was established on the main road and had full right of way. If there had been a collision the op would not be at fault in any way as the other car pulled into the op's path. It is down to the other car to ensure it was safe before pulling out (which is wasn't as op was forced to stop).
I hope you don't drive Grin

Butteredpars1ps · 01/03/2017 21:23

Op I'm sorry you were upset, but it really doesn't sound like you were driving to the conditions.

You were in a built up area. There were parked cars. There was a slight bend. You didn't see a learner driver pulling out in time to anticipate his move.

You were either going to fast or not paying attention.

Deathstarevicki · 01/03/2017 21:49

Pmsl yabu your not the one in the wrong, they are but expecting them to check you are OK after an emergency stop is pretty hilarious.

Please phone the driving instructor to complain and record the conversation, that would be hilarious. You could be his fruit loop story to tell friends and family. Thanks for the laugh tho Grin

Sounds like a standard school run in NWLondon - get over yourself. YABU.

LouKout · 02/03/2017 06:24

Wow, bitchy.

LouKout · 02/03/2017 06:36

Do you last two posters talk to people like that in real life?

MrsTarzan1 · 02/03/2017 06:38

I would be irritated too, they need to take responsibility for their behaviour, an apology would be enough

Somanyshoes · 02/03/2017 07:05

Blimey, I had to slam my anchors on about 5 times this morning going from 120kph to about 20 each time, I'll have to do the same this evening and I did the same yesterday and the day before and the day before. It's part and parcel of driving and the key thing is anticipating any eventuality. We have 6-8 lane highways where I live and dickheads will decide to exit from the farthest overtaking lane at the last minute and cross all lanes horizontally. Then you'll have those who miss their exit and decide to reverse back up the highway! Rarely are indicators used, these are a mere twinkly decoration.

It might be worth considering a defensive driving course OP.

Toooldforradio1 · 03/03/2017 21:04

This has been my favourite thread ever! I've been heartened to see a huge amount of common sense. And OP, your reasoning was ridiculous, you refused to laugh it off when you were shown to be mistaken and it's wrong to call people bitches when they were simply answering your question honestly, albeit with a little (well deserved IMO!) exasperation. Chill!
