To think this is just not in the spirit of fair parking?

Another parking one - sorry...
I live on a narrow road with residents parking. I have a residents permit and usually manage to get a parking space on the road, though usually not outside my house. This is fine, though frustrating on the occasions I have to park far away and have heavy bags.
But.... there has been a red car parked in the space right outside my house since Christmas. It has a permit so is legal but, by not moving, means the usual movement as cars come and go can't happen so it's preventing the maximum number of cars parking in the marked bay (they are not individual bays, just one long marked one that if everyone parked considerately could fit 7 cars). At least I thought it had been there since Christmas..... last night I spotted that the red car had moved, and there was a battered blue car in the space. I then later heard much banging of car doors and talking outside the house. I nosed through my curtains to see the red car back in the space, the red car's driver locking the car and getting into the blue car's passenger seat and the blue car driving round to the parking space at the rear of the house opposite me.

DH says I have parking rage unnecessarily. I think they have just committed the equivalent of putting a towel out to save a sunlounger before everyone else is up. It's just not fair play.
For completeness, the houses opposite us each have a parking space behind them. We don't, and can only park on the road. We also only have one car, not a spare one to hog a space with.
AIBU to think that saving a parking space by parking a banger there is not really on?

Oh yes, you must do your shop on-line!

Can you let us know when beach-towel returns and what his reaction is?

Crowdblundering · 13/03/2017 16:39

Yeah it's inconsiderate and I would leave a note (they won't know it's you).

We have on the road parking and I have 1 car whereas next door have three and will take up three spaces with 2 cars until the third gets home.

Pisses me right off esp if I have been shopping - and OH thinks we have more "right" because we own and have been here 11 years and they rent and have been there 1 year.

Get online right away and change your name to inthesleeplesssnightgarden Boswell and order some same day delivered traffic cones. .
Sorted.

I moved my car last week after it being in the same spot since Christmas Eve. It had only been driven once when I turned it around. Two neighbours were up ladders doing their gutters and I swear nearly fell off rubber necking as I drove down the road.

MrsJaniceBattersby · 13/03/2017 16:43

DO NOT MOVE YOUR CAR !
i'd leave it there for about a week . have a little walk around to see where they have managed to park though Grin

PleaseTieMyBow · 13/03/2017 16:44

I missed this thread when it was originally posted and have only just read it. When I noticed the February date I was keeping my fingers crossed that it would be concluded. What a terribly satisfying read and like watching a one off programme rather than having to tune in next week for the conclusion Grin
And have to concur with everyone else. The best diagram I have ever seen on a parking thread 👍
PS I would have reacted in exactly the same way. Dh doesn't quite get my frustration at inconsiderate parking but I fully appreciate the feelings when only 5 cars are parked where easily 7 could fit with a bit more thought....

Miniwookie · 13/03/2017 17:06

Do NOT leave that space for any reason for at least a week! You will be fine on beans on toast til then Grin

MumW · 13/03/2017 17:45

How about putting your diagram (or a modified version) iunder their wiper to illustrate how they are parking and how you would like them to park pointing out the excessive space in front and explaining that if they park sensibly you there would also be space to park at least one more car. (tell them they can keep these to remind them how to park and to hang on to them as you expect to become a renowned diagram artist and they may be worth a bob or two in the future.Grin )

AmserGwin · 13/03/2017 19:41

If you do have to move get a neighbour to take your place Smile

TipTop333 · 13/03/2017 20:05

Agree with PP. This thread delivers. Parking, a diagram, a conclusion and JUSTICE.

AHobbyaweek · 13/03/2017 20:22

@Inthesleeplessnightgarden you must have an update by now Grin

CrohnicallyPregnant · 13/03/2017 20:33

What a lovely parking thread.

Reminds me of a time on holiday in Cleethorpes, along the road there is on street parking, the kind where you can stop for an hour or two, it's marked out in long rows not individual spaces. We came to a part of the parking that was around 2 car lengths long (between dropped kerbs) and there was a car in the middle, with the driver still in.

I jumped out and asked very nicely if the driver would mind pulling forward a bit so that our car could fit in the bay too.

Their answer? 'No, because I got a parking ticket last week and I don't see why I should move just so you don't get one'

I was flabbergasted!

Inthesleeplessnightgarden · 13/03/2017 20:36

@ahobbyaweek see my update today at 1623 - I will sleep easy tonight in the knowledge that a parking bay with room for seven cars is neatly filled with seven cars!

No idea where red car is though. Hoping they've moved house rather than gone on a mini break.

I think the update does warrant another diagram actually OP.

thecolonelbumminganugget · 13/03/2017 21:12

If you do need to use your car may I suggest a chalk outline and some police tape as a placeholder

AHobbyaweek · 13/03/2017 22:23

Sorry OP seems mumsnet is not quite loading all of my threads tonight. Blush

Crowdblundering · 13/03/2017 22:43

My elderly next door neighbour chalks around cars in the street incorrectly parked 😂
