To expect a Dualit toaster to last more than two years?

I have always wanted one and loved mine until it started blowing the electrics for the whole house.

Unfortunately John Lewis tell me it is out of warranty after over two years of use and they won't help.

I thought under the Salenof Goods Act I had a bit longer but is it unreasonable to expect a toaster to last for more than two years if it is an expensive one?

I don't know which brand to fork out for next Angry

They aren't like they used to be!
They used to be so heavy you could barely lift them!
Ditto the kettles
We bought new ones 3.5 years ago and they are just rubbish compared to what they used to be like (I'm going back 10/12 years)
I won't buy dualit again

Sunnydays!!!! Not one rogue sultana but FIVE!! Just jabbed them all out and it is working. Feel a bit of a wally now but thank you SO much. Crumpets for tea!

What variety of Dualit toaster is it?
If it is the classic version then it is completely repairable by anyone with a half decent understanding of electricity. The classic ones are the ones with the rounded end and the clicking timer.

If it is one of the cheaper one, I think they are called Architect, then they are not reparable and NOT ACTUALLY MADE BY DUALIT. They are made outside the UK by a third party.

Either way I would contact Dualit directly. If it is one like the one in the picture then it is completely user serviceable

Yeay! So pleased for you and glad I told my silly story. Bloody hot cross buns Grin

Elizabethtailored · 25/02/2017 14:27

Thank you. No more hot cross buns for breakfast. Am an idiot though.

I mistakenly bought a bagel / roll Dualit (only toasts on one side) on eBay about 10 years ago. Blasted thing won't break.

I see the OP has (hopefully!) got hers working now but I would recommend contacting Dualit directly for any problems out of the guarantee period.

I had a Dualit kettle which became like the fabled workman's broom (you know the "I've had this broom fifty years, only had to replace the handle 5 times times and the brushhead 9 times" )

Any time I had a problem they said to send it for repair and more often than not they would just replace the whole lot. My kettle was an old curly cabled one and one time they sent a replacement but it was the new cordless which I wasn't keen on. I phoned up to say they'd made a mistake and they not only sent a new curly cabled kettle but said to keep the old one!

I think I've made it sound like it broke down continuously Grin it didn't, I just had this 'one' kettle for 25 years Wink

tuna that's the sort of thing I do Grin.

Interesting post, as we too have had the timer on our dualit toaster start to stick, after only 2 years of normal, domestic use.
I too thought they were meant to be pretty indestructible (especially considering the price tag). I emailed Dualit directly and heard nothing back.
I may as well have spent a tiny fraction of the price and bought a cheap one.
Sadly very unimpressed both with the quality of the toaster and their customer service.

Sounds really silly but our Duality kept tripping the electrics. I contacted them and they said to check there wasn't anything stuck in the toaster as that could do it. I thought they were being ridiculous...Turns out there was a rogue sultana from a hotcross bun stuck in the grill bits. Removed it and it's been fine ever since. Thought I'd mention it...Just in case. Ours is 6 years old, yours definitely should last longer.

Thank you for this, this is literally what happened to my toaster, a stray sultana (that I could barely see) stuck in the heating element. I fished it out and it’s no longer tripping up my kitchen electrics. I was all set to replace it when I thought I’d google it and found your post.

I think Dualit are a brilliant company. I’ve always had excellent service from them, and they make all their products in the UK.
