202g Steak for 3 People?

Davros · 23/02/2017 14:53

DH is cooking beef stroganoff for three of us tonight and has come home with what looks to me like a minuscule steak. I was thinking big pot, hearty and tasty meal but it looks like it will be more like nouvelle cuisine. He thinks I'm just a greedy cah. As someone who more or less doesn't cook, am I misjudging his sweet little steak and it's "plenty" in his words or will I barely be able to wet my lips with this dinner?

And another thing - he came home with a bottle of red wine and I much prefer white. The house is still stuffed with red wine from Xmas!! He thought it would be nice to share this particular wine as he had it at a wine tasting he went to with a mate last night (Xmas gift).
Ungrateful - moi?! Grin

Fillet steak?!? Shit in a box and full of carbs ;) Saying that be grateful your dh actually went to the shops and is cooking a meal. Mine wouldn't even shit in a box for me on my birthday, but I don't mind, fillet steaks and birthdays are for children anyway :)

"Saying that be grateful your dh actually went to the shops and is cooking a meal."

That's right. Be grateful, woman. Hmm

I'll just plonk myself here and wait for someone to declare they could feed a family of four for a week on that. We've lost sight of correct portion sizes don't you know?

That was my first b thought on opening this thread, that it was going to be full of people trilling that it was plenty Grin.

derxa · 23/02/2017 17:33

trilling Most of MN consists of disingenuous trilling tbf.

We have had "the OP should think herself lucky a man is cooking at all" though.Grin

I use the amazingly tender rump from my local butcher & still cook it in the time it takes the rice to cook - no slow-cooking here for stroganoff!

If I make goulash, I use shin.

He did go out and buy another steak (and a bottle of white wine) but the second steak was Sirloin. I think the cost put him off another fillet but it worked fine, could just about tell which bit was which. When DD got home she roared "bloody hell, that's a tiny steak"! Grin she still scoffed it, as did I!

Always fillet steak in this house. I don't see why people are baulking at the price unless they're really skint. You can get a decent fillet in Aldi / Lidl for £4.29. That fillet for four people for the same price as a dominos pizza!

I thought it pretty obvious HandbagCrab was kidding Confused

Frugal but just about ok if the dish is mainly mushrooms (particularly if interesting ones, not just normal supermarket button). Completely bonkers if it has to be mushroomless for the teen!

I'm making strog for 3 tomorrow evening - I'll post about the tonnage of steak I use...
