I guess this is a case of it not hurting anyone so I wouldn't say it's disgusting but I do think it's tacky and I don't really see the point personally.

OMG Smile Shock

I kept umbilical clips and the tags from hospital, first shoes etc. The DC have never been in the slightest bit interested. I am thinking of chucking them all out.

Some people keep very strange mementos.....

I'm a Paediatric nurse and many moons ago I had been looking after a baby who had been having NG feeds and when I removed the feeding tube prior to discharging the baby the dad asked if he could keep it Confused

I thought he was joking actually seeing as when I pulled it out it was lined with stomach juices and looking particularly disgusting but he was being serious and said he wanted it for the child's memory box!

I popped it into an envelope for him and told him it was the strangest request I'd ever had!! Grin

Looking back I should have refused with legitimate reasons around germs etc but at the time I was just so shocked!!

You don't have to tell people what it is though. It could be personal to you. I have a piece of jewellery to remember babies I miscarried - if someone comments on it I don't tell them the story behind it.

I don't find it disgusting, I wouldn't get one myself but I'm guessing the processes it goes through to make it into jewellery (i.e. solidifying and hopefully preserving it) takes away the manky side of the 'bodily fluid' thing? It's not like pouring an ounce of breastmilk onto your chest... Each to their own and I'm sure it will be a nice reminder of an achievement and a shared journey for some.

I find it unappealing because the idea of any milk product - human or animal - being made 'permanent' just makes me think of gone-off milk, which is one of the few things that really turns my stomach.

However the realist in me says there is damn all (or most likely zero) actual milk in those and it just seems like another way to appeal to emotion to entice people to spend. But obviously others disagree.
