to think this bloke should calm right down

Sitting in a coffee shop and its not busy so I can hear what's happening to the poor woman next to me. She has a laptop and is obviously trying to work but is sitting on a bench so anyone can sit next to her. A bloke arrived about 15 minutes ago and has not shut up yet. He is firing one question after another at her and she is answering. Before she's finished answering he's asking another one. They seem to know each other as he is a friend of her dad so I don't think she can tell home to STFU! He is obviosuly enjoying having the attention of a young, attractive woman but my God she has the patience of a saint. I want to tell him to her give her a break but obviosuly won't - she's a grown up after all.

Maybe you should mind your own business and stop making up fairy tales in your own mind? Do you not have enough of your own concerns to think about than get worked up about 2 random strangers? Jeez louise.

GreyStars · 20/02/2017 15:32

Or maybe she observed something and wanted to gain others perspective on the situation. It could actually turn into a very interesting debate on why people do this, where others share their experiences

Unless I've missed something in the god knows how many years I've been on MN this is exactly what it's all about.

WhispersOnTheWind · 20/02/2017 15:33

It's a situation familiar to anyone over or under the age of 14 of both sexes. No doubt there are some men with the entitlement to female attention issue but it isn't by any means behaviour exclusive to the bloody Patriarchy.
Never been that teen trapped at a family wedding by some old aunt who hasn't seen you since you were a embryo? Never seen that young male neighbour working on his car and trapped by the neighborhood mechanical know all? Never had the coworker who blathers on about her weekend clubbing and love life while you're trying to get the accounts done? Never had the lonely old lady or man sit next to you in the bus or train and by the end of the journey you know their life-story? Never bumped into old acquaintance you can't stand in a cafe and she corners you to give you the 3rd degree about what you're doing now and fill you in on gossip about people you neither know nor care about?
It's not men - it's humans.
The coffee shop woman had the answer in her own hands if she wanted to shut him up or get away. She either tells him she's busy and needs to get on or she gets up and leaves. Fucking drama about nothing.

Leggit · 20/02/2017 15:44

But it is mainly men I see the behaviour in. Anyone who says it isn't should get out more tbh

That's a tad ironic.....

LadyPW · 20/02/2017 15:44

Never had the coworker who blathers on about her weekend clubbing and love life while you're trying to get the accounts done?
Or the one who wants to go on about the toilet roll situation in the ladies loo (which was not my responsibility either using it all or putting new ones in there!) while you're trying to sort funding out on the phone with the woman at the bank?!!

PoorYorick · 20/02/2017 15:44

I've met people who won't leave me alone when I obviously don't want to talk, but the overwhelming majority of them have been men who wouldn't do it to another man. Yes I know it's NOT ALL MEN, that's a given. But it's a common enough occurrence to be the most likely situation that the OP observed. If it looks like a fuck and drones on like a fuck...

Touchmybum · 20/02/2017 15:52

If this man is her father's friend, then the lady is probably well used to him. Fucking hell, you can't even be a prick these days without someone sticking it online...

Miserylovescompany2 · 20/02/2017 16:10

Most definitely answer D GreyStars that would ensure you kept the table all to yourself. Or maybe invent a contagious disease and start coughing..

redwinewhine · 20/02/2017 16:18

Possibly the most embarrassing thread on this site. Man sees women he knows and it's deemed sexist because OP feels he's talking too much. I've had countless experiences of women who I know directly or through relatives/friends talk me death when I've bumped into them. Not once did I think how dare she think she is entitled to my time. When I wanted the conversation to end I made my excuses and left.

dustarr73 · 20/02/2017 16:50

Being a female didnt render her mute.So there was nothing stopping her from telling him he f off.Or moving.

PageStillNotFound404 · 20/02/2017 18:16

Possibly the most embarrassing thread on this site.

Then quite appropriate that it's drawn the most hyperbolic comment.
