AIBU to think that MLM businesses ask that you completely change your personality to sell their crap products?

I have a friend from college, love her and loved keeping up to date with her witty facebook posts, tweets and instagram pics. She has a really clever sense of humour I always loved.

Recently though she has started her own MLM business and she is totally different on social media. All her photos are related to the products, her posts honestly sound like she has been told to write them and her photos have cringy filters over them. Every other word is hun now and she wouldn't say that before.

So is this it now? Shes like a totally different person!!

Is scentsy one of these ?

GandolfBold · 16/02/2017 22:31

At least for you its at an arms length. In my office of 5 we have an aloe vera lady who peddles her crap all the time. She never misses an opportunity to push her crap onto you and she hasn't got the message that we dont want to buy her shit.

Another lady sells some eyewateringly expensive face creams for some other company. No one earns enough to drop £85 on a face cream. Every week she is practising her best QVC presenting skills on us, about how fabulous the products are.

Neither of them seem to have made their fortune, they still turn up every monday!

Teddy1970 · 16/02/2017 22:41

I think scentsy might be an MLM. I've got 3 FL bots who I'm F/B friends with, I can't unfollow as I find it fascinating...I mean what makes an intelligent, sane woman fall for this?

enchantmentandlove · 16/02/2017 22:54

My sil used to do juice plus a few years ago (doesn't anymore), and I was surprised to see my newest jp bot writing the exact same 'personal' status as she did a few years later!

What I really dislike is her claims about jp, when she doesn't really know what she's talking about that can be very dangerous - such as curing diabetes, cancer, and recommending to pregnant women to not gain so much weight throughout their pregnancy! I think I may unfollow her.

enchantmentandlove · 16/02/2017 23:05

Actually not sure if I should contact jp about her claims? Do they know that people are claiming their products cure cancer, diabetes and help you not to gain weight while pregnant?

Willow2016 · 16/02/2017 23:08

I would contact trading standards as its ilegal to claim something can cure cancer.

JP wont do a damm thing, they tell bots not to do it but they all do, not a bit of medical expertise between them, its really dangerous. They are going to kill someone one day.

enchantmentandlove · 16/02/2017 23:15

Thank you, I think I will. It's been annoying me for a while, but it wasn't until I wrote it out just now it dawned on me just how dangerous her claims are. I'll have a browse through her facebook and find the posts tomorrow. I feel guilty as she's nice (friends sister), but her claims are just awful.

Willow2016 · 16/02/2017 23:27

I know someone who is highly allergic to aloe as in they cary an epi pen.
Bot told them it would do wonders for another condition they had, and when they told them they were allergic she said dont be silly you cant be its a natural substance!

Just an fatality waiting to happen.....

PageStillNotFound404 · 16/02/2017 23:35

My FL bot has gone very quiet and all the #livingthedream #bossbabes #dreamteam #worklifebalance hashtags and photos of her with her feet up and a glass of wind in her hand seem to have dried up, so maybe that's a sign that she's soon going to come back to us as a normal human being again. I hope so anyway.

PageStillNotFound404 · 16/02/2017 23:37

*A glass of WINE. My iPad clearly disapproves of drinking. Or is passing comment on MLMs...

Arcadia · 16/02/2017 23:50

Is Herbalife one?

cate16 · 17/02/2017 00:03

What's a 'bot' ?

ChaseAvenal · 17/02/2017 00:17

An otherwise sane and lovely gf-of-dh's-friend has just started one of these 'businesses'... I'm seeing them both soon and as I'm not close enough for her to trust my opinion on why it's a terrible idea I'm going to have to hold my tongue if she brings it up...

Twofurrycats · 17/02/2017 00:22

Cans of coke were £3 for a box of 10 in corner shop today (totally misses point)

RainyDayBear · 17/02/2017 00:29

I seem to have a friend who's gone over to the dark side with a toothpaste one - lots of posts about her new opportunity and being blessed etc!

ChocolateFuzz · 17/02/2017 03:41

Cate16. A robot

ChocolateFuzz · 17/02/2017 03:49

Yeah, it's illegal to market something to the general public as being a cure for cancer even if it is. That's why when Noel Edmonds claimed something cured cancer the company that made the product frantically denied it.

KeyserSophie · 17/02/2017 04:37

Slightly off topic but I loved the instagram one where the celebrity concerned copied and pasted the instructions from whoever was paying him to push their products, so instead of

"Just got back from an awesome workout - helping recovery with x shake"

he wrote

"At 3.30 post the following "Just got back from an awesome workout - helping recovery with x shake""

TheKrakenSmith · 17/02/2017 05:11

A friend told me aloe could cure my autism. We are no longer friends.

KeyserSophie · 17/02/2017 06:19

A friend told me aloe could cure my autism.

It totally can, plus cancer, alzeimers, MS and bad cases of camel toe, but big pharma is covering it up because otherwise no-one would buy any more drugs........

dingdongthewitchisdead1 · 17/02/2017 06:31

Pp asked about scentsy. Yes it is one of these technically but. It half as annoying as the FL JP brigade who will change your life forever at a cost of just 70p per day!
My cousin does JP and she really grates on me. Totally ridiculous claims.
Scentsy actually does smell really nice! It won't cure your cancer tho

MaisyPops · 17/02/2017 06:46

Argh! I thought itbwas just me who thought all these 'Younique' women are slightly brainwashed and obsessive.
Got a few colleagues who all joined another collegue's "team" and it seems like most of the people qho by it are actually other presenters.
There's lots of 'come to my party' and raffles. Oh and dont forget the daily selfies showing off the products (probably going through so much make up in the process!).

I've gor friends who'vw done Temple Spa and Avon for years and they've never been pushing social media salespeople. Seems some companies promote the "tgiss will change your life hun" more than others

bagpackbagpack · 17/02/2017 07:01

This is thread number 6 I think that has been started about MLMs since last night!

Herbalife

They're probably the worst. John Oliver did a brilliant summary on his Last Week Tonight show, think it's on YouTube.
