Dont' know much about Harward, but by all reports so far, he's a decent guy. It may explain why he told Trump he needed a few days to think it over. Grin

amispartacus · 15/02/2017 19:27

So Trump is pro-Israel now.
I'm sure he was concerned about settlements - but that was last week.

The UK policy is different - as far as I remember..

his rally in FL will be in an airport hangar. People are already talking about protesting.

How long will it take before Trump blames the “fake media” for treating Andrew Puzder so badly

About as long as it takes him to persuade his staff to give him his phone back after this morning's tirade Grin

See, and in fairness, I'll post something from Fox news. Grin

his rally in FL will be in an airport hangar

So he wants to go back to the campaign trail when everyone loved him and before he was actually expected to do stuff...like run a country or talk on complete sentences for example Hmm

Yes, Bigly He wants (and needs) the adoration of the crowd. Think he's going to be disappointed.

He's really messed up businesses locally where his Maralago is - roads and such being shut down while he's there - so he's not exactly made friends.

Breaking news on News24 - GOP struggling to get enough votes in Senate to get Pudzer into post.

cozietoesie · 15/02/2017 19:35

I should imagine that if you were a journalist faced with a nomination from an intelligent and honourable man with the weight of his country's security services behind him, you would - possibly - put said nomination on a back burner for in depth investigation at leisure. Other sorts of nominations might command .....more immediate attention. Wink

AmazingWorld · 15/02/2017 19:36

Oh shit! Trump is backing away from any commitment to a Palestinian state. It means that Palestinians will lose the shred of hope they have. This is cruel. Sad

amispartacus · 15/02/2017 19:38

Israel is complicated and is an area that needs careful handling. It's not a topic that can be discussed in 140 characters.

I was listening to a R4 programme about the hotline. It used to be a teleprinter as it was felt that writing things down calmed thoughts rather than talking.

Twitter is the worst. 140 characters. It's instant and it's worldwide. I don't think POTUS tweeting is a good thing.

According to the Jerusalem Post, Israeli right is ecstatic over Trump statement.

BiglyBadgers · 15/02/2017 19:41

The UK policy is different - as far as I remember

I'm no expert, but I think we are currently a bit all over the place on Isreal. On the one hand we voted to support a UN council motion criticising Isreal building on the west bank, on the other hand May is getting pretty friendly with them at the moment and got a bit of a strop on about Kerry's criticism of them in December
www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-38464800

I can't see this being the issue that makes May stand up to Trump, let's put it that way.

So I wonder how Hamas will react?

It's a bloody awful situation - and there are many people in that part of the world who just want peace.

Palestine will not take further oppression of palestinian people when the world is shying away. Isreal has basically put a new law in place which allows settlements on private palestinian land. So basically, if your neigbour took your house, that would be legal.

Then we wonder why Palestinians get upset

pinboard · 15/02/2017 19:51

The Middle East has been a tinder box for decades.

The thought of this orangutan wading in makes me feel ill.

Really ill. And frightened. Sad

amispartacus · 15/02/2017 19:52

“I’m looking at two-state and one-state and I like the one that both parties like. I’m very happy with the one that both parties like,” Trump said.

“I can live with either one. I thought for a while it looked like the two-state might be the easier of the two – but honestly if Bibi, if Israel and the Palestinians are happy, I’m happy with the one they like the best,” Trump said, referring to Netanyahu by his nickname

Hmm

I heard that hotline programme, too! Normally I find Rosen's programme soporific, but it was fascinating to hear what the "Hotline" really is/has been.

Sometimes I can take 20-60 minutes to write an email, maybe even a short email, figuring out how to phrase it just right (and get the right attachments). Made me feel better about my email composition times.

AmazingWorld · 15/02/2017 19:55

I am wondering how long it will take the workd to figure out that the israeli governments of the last decade or so have no intention of seeing a palestinian state. Why do you think the right wing government rejoices when Trump supports them in enforcing conditions for a homeless Palestinian nation being systematically robbed of their land.

AmazingWorld · 15/02/2017 19:58

So basically trump has said isreal can keep stalling. they want to maintain the status quo.
