To think this is not standard in a hotel?

Staying in quite a nice hotel and housekeeping have knocked on once at 8am and once at 8.20am even though I said not yet thank you the first time. AIBU to think that's a bit intense? What if I'd been asleep still or in the shower, would they just have walked in on me?

I would always put my do not disturb card on if I was intending to sleep in, but I presumed that before 9am was pretty safe as people are still getting up, getting ready for work, etc?

Will just put do not disturb on tomorrow but wanted opinions!

Roomster, the written information about housekeeping times, 'turn down' service etc is usually contained in a folder in the room. Often it does explain the use of the DND signs too - in case it wasn't obvious that they are only for use when you're shagging and want to boast about it Wink - ha ha Middleclass.
Wracking brain, I've stayed in a lot of hotels & I can't recall any that didn't have the information in the room. There's quite a bit of variation in housekeeping times, but 8am is not a particularly early start for them. More luck than judgement those who've not used the sign and staff got to the room later.

Slightly off thread, but worst experience of being disturbed in a hotel was a fire alarm going off at 4am, waking up disorientated and standing freezing cold in the car park for nearly an hour the day of a big family wedding. For everything else, DND.

It's what the card is there for - if you don't want anyone knocking on your door at any given time put the sign on. Not hard, takes seconds. They can't just wait until everyone is up - some people may be in bed all day. If you don't put the dnd card up you might get a knock it is that easy!

Blueink I always read the information and I have never seen any written information about housekeeping times as you state. I certainly haven't seen anything that explicitly states that they will knock on the door as early as 8 a.m. if there is no DND sign either. Therefore, it won't be obvious to guests that aren't used to staying in hotels. It is certainly not "common sense" to know that housekeeping will start as early as 8 a.m. It would make more sense for hotels to employ more part-time workers who clean rooms only after check out.

They could wait until 9.30 or 10 a.m. before knocking on doors. People would expect them to knock by that time.

It's a bit like asking what is the latest you can phone someone at night, everyone has a different idea of what is acceptable. Might as well put the sign on to be sure you don't get disturbed.

Roomster101

Why do you keep posting "as early as 8 a.m"? For many parents that would be a dream?

Manijo · 17/02/2017 21:10

FFS why is this boring thread still going. Just put the fucking DND on the door

hks · 20/02/2017 15:44

i would have thought 9 / 10am would have been a more appropriate time to start housekeeping duties x
