To think pasta pesto isn't a universal kid friendly meal?

I often see this stated as a meal that all kids like, up there with pizza/nuggets/fishfishfingers, but I honestly don't know many kids who like it, and know more who wouldn't know what it is.
Dd's too old for playdates now but I'd never have served it, not in a million years, is it really universal kid food?
Admittedly we live in a small Scottish town but we have a Waitrose, and a Private school, it's not some weird backwater.

ds has never like it he isn't that fussy. He doesn't like fish fingers either probably because he ate too many when he was a toddler

I love fresh pesto but not with pasta (both ds and I prefer pasta with olive oil, garlic and chilli for quick pasta meal) I like it with steamed salmon

DS loves it, but he loves all pasta.

I'm Italian though so he gets fed a lot of pasta Grin

My kids love it, but my 9 year took it to school in her packed lunch the other day and didn't eat it because some kids made fun of her :S

If I had a pound for every time I made my kids pasta and pesto with frozen veg would have enough money to hire a personal chef. And all they would do is make fresh pasta and pesto for the same dinner.

'Pasta pesto'

Is that that new 'Mac and cheese'?

What's wrong with pronouncing the bits in between?!

My pretentious fools only like freshly-made pasta with home-made pesto. Which occurs roughly once a year when I have enough time, energy and willpower to fanny about with a meal I could prep in seven minutes were they normal children. I love pesto and pasta, though, and the DCs haven't ever eaten anything different to DH and I, so they don't know what "kids food" really is.

All those with nut/pine nut allergies, I recommend sunflower seeds if you can have them. They're great for homemade pesto - the only kind we can have!

Oooo, red they'd be similar wouldn't they. Even if I just made it for myself at least I could gorge on it without worrying about DS.
