To STILL be checking the baby's breathing?!

He's 5 months.

At what point does your heart stop flying into your mouth when they're sleeping, and doing that shallow sleep breathing. And you stare for ages to watch their chests rise and fall. Even though their cheeks are pink. And theyre all warm and cosy. And clearly alive but sleeping.

WHEN DO YOU JUST BELIEVE THEYRE FINE?!!!

(Lighthearted but also.... WHEN?!? Grin )

My 3 year old is still on her angel care sensor Grin

JohnnyMcGrathSaysFuckOff · 13/02/2017 16:22

Still several times a night and she is 2y1m.

In turn she comes in at 6am on a Saturday and shouts "Mummy s'eeping? Boo! 'Wake now" Grin

AllTheBabies · 13/02/2017 16:23

I still check my 6yo! My 12 month old sleeps in our bed and I'm often found with my hand on her chest while I sleep. It's comforting.

StewPots · 13/02/2017 16:23

I do that to my DS (3) and it has been known, DD (15!)

seafoodeatit · 13/02/2017 16:24

YANBU, I still check in on my 6 year old dc every night.

BubbleWrapQueen · 13/02/2017 16:26

I check both mine before I go to bed. They're 8 and 10 😂

Not sure I'll ever stop!

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 13/02/2017 16:27

Teen. Are you my dd.

Snowflakes1122 · 13/02/2017 16:28

I still do and eldest is 11 Blush

StarlingMurderation · 13/02/2017 16:28

Every night when I go to bed, I slip into DS's room and watch until I'm sure he's breathing, often putting my hand on his back or chest. He's 27 months. I can't see me stopping any time soon.

SomethingBorrowed · 13/02/2017 16:30

Haha lifenow I am worse, I never ever did this... My excuse is that I had twins so when they were asleep I only thought about getting some sleep myself.
I remember MIL once lifting the pram cover to check on them and I was furious as it could have woken them up

THIS will make you laugh. one of the best things I ever read when DD was tiny - and yes, pretending not to breathe is a dick move, tiny babies!

Outbackshack · 13/02/2017 16:32

Ummm never done that...now feeling like a bad mum! Mine both currently have colds and snore loud enough that it's pretty easy to tell!

rainingkitsandpups · 13/02/2017 16:32

I haven't stopped yet and my eldest is 4

FireInTheHead · 13/02/2017 16:33

I may have been known to hold a mirror under at least one tiny nose to check if it steamed up when mine were babies. And yes, I'd occasionally get some primal urge to check on them in the night when they were way past babyhood.

I don't think the worry ever really goes away. Mine are grown men now and I have shove a fist in my mouth to stop myself reminding them to look both ways before crossing the road when they come here to visit. In my defense the traffic runs the opposite way here but that's not really the reason.

TheWrathFromHighAtopTheThing · 13/02/2017 16:33

I still check mine, they're 4 and 7. If you gently brush their eyelashes they twitch their eye. I learned that after trying many different ways to check on a baby who slept through nothing.

AgentBlue · 13/02/2017 16:34

I'm 43...........I recently went to visit my Mum and caught a bit of a snotty cold.

Caught her checking me before she went to bed Grin

Tomorrowillbeachicken · 13/02/2017 16:36

I don't think any of the worrying ends

Oldraver · 13/02/2017 16:39

When they leave home

NinjaLeprechaun · 13/02/2017 16:42

Mine will be 21 next month and I still do it from time to time. Mind, when she sleeps she wraps her head in a blanket and literally won't move for the next 10-12 hours - it can be disconcerting even if you're used to it.

insomniaat4am · 13/02/2017 16:42

I wish I still had my eldest on a sensor mat. At 5 months she started rolling off of it and setting it off all night. I check them both numerous times before bed and during the night! Eldest is 2 and youngest is 4 months and on a sensor mat. I like watching the movement light on the sensor when I wake in the night!!!

GrainOfSalt · 13/02/2017 16:43

Yup, DS is 7 years , I still check. (We're not helping are we OP Grin )

Peanutbutterfingers · 13/02/2017 16:46

DS nearly 7, I still have to check last thing before I go to sleep.

I may also have poked him awake on occasion trying to make him move so I could be SURE he was still alive...

swizzlestar · 13/02/2017 16:47

My ds is 5 and has sleep apnoea, I check several times a night. I don't normally have to touch him as I can hear him snoring!

Dd is 10 and I still check on her every night before I go to bed.

ItsyBitsyBikini · 13/02/2017 16:50

My DS is 8 months, still checking on him. My nephew is 20. I still check on him when he goes to sleep after work and I know he has to get up for another shift elsewhere or an appt (when I'm at my sisters, he doesn't live with me). I think my family just breed really light breathers so you have to lean in real close and then watch them crap themselves when they notice you!

anonbecauseiwanna · 13/02/2017 16:50

I still do it at 6.5 months Blush
