To be ashamed of the Labour Party leadership

Long term member, did not support Corbyn, but even I am surprised by quite how bad he's been.

Where is the opposition? I get that Brexit is difficult, but where is Labour on the collapse of the NHS, the explosion of homelessness, the decimation of local council funding and the ticking bomb that is school funding?

Why is it that we now look to the Lords, the Cof E and petitions to be the opposition?

Shocking state of affairs.

And today Tony Blair has announced he will fight to overturn Brexit.

The top voted response to the article I read, one word: Iraq

derxa · 17/02/2017 11:13

I don't think JC can solve the problem with Isis by talking to them either
Well what do you suggest?

derxa · 17/02/2017 11:15

And today Tony Blair has announced he will fight to overturn Brexit.
Good for him.

Rugbyplayersarehot · 17/02/2017 11:35

Tony is doing what JC should be doing. JC is only interested in taking to his supporters he can't hack people questioning him, that's because all his political life he's spent questioning others and criticising he can't take it when it's done to him. What a waste of space he is and a disaster.

Blaire and Brown truly did some amazing things, they rebuilt so many old crumbling schools in my area, Worcestershire, so grateful my children eventually got beautiful brand new facilities. The tories wouldn't have done that.

It's a bloody shame the stain of Iraq overshadows everything.

Rugbyplayersarehot · 17/02/2017 11:37

Agree Rebecca and Angela are truly dreadful

Boulshired · 17/02/2017 11:43

Brexit was always going to rip apart labour with or without JC. They push a strong remain and they lose voters to ukip, they back brexit then they cross a red line that many of their supporters hold. They cannot win but JC didn't even attempt to find a common ground.

derxa · 17/02/2017 12:04

Blair is on BBC news now

Fakenewsday · 17/02/2017 12:08

brexit isn't skewerin the tories, a lot of the remainers will accept that they've lost and continue to vote labour even if it backs brexit as long as they have sound and exciting domestic policies. I'm not suggesting how to deal with Isis, I am simply saying that I don't believe they will get round a table and agree to a negotiated peace, the labour party should campaign strongly on its domestic policy offering.

flippinada · 17/02/2017 12:13

*The top voted response to the article I read, one word: Iraq"

Would you mind linking to the article please make?

TB didn't take us all into Iraq on his own, he had plenty of cross party support.

He was also re-elected afterwards so it's not the line in the sand some folk think it is.

Lottapianos · 17/02/2017 12:18

'And today Tony Blair has announced he will fight to overturn Brexit.
Good for him.'

I agree entirely. I am no fan of Blair's - I think he's a dangerous, gaslighting narcissist, although I do give him credit for the great work (SureStart, civil partnerships etc) he did while in power. He seems to have no concept of how utterly he is despised in this country and keeps popping up like a bad penny. And yet I am so utterly desperate for someone - ANYONE - to say what he has that I'm celebrating this today. He is doing Corbyn's job and Corbyn should be ashamed about that. Remain voters, who are almost half of the people who voted let's remember, have almost no-one to stand up for them and challenge this utter madness. So bloody good for Blair - I do wish it could be someone else who is getting this message out there but desperate times and all that.

flippinada · 17/02/2017 12:20

Thanks derxa, I had a feeling it might be the Guardian.

Agree Lotta

flippinada · 17/02/2017 12:22

If it is that article then the top comment is supportive of TB raising the issue.

Fakenewsday · 17/02/2017 12:34

i always thought private eye had Blair exactly with their 'parish news' where he was the vicar of albion - brilliant satire.

teawamutu · 17/02/2017 12:39

Yy Lotta.

I think Iraq was the wrong decision, but I am sick to death of all the war criminal shouting.

He had cross party support. He won an election after we went to war. His administration achieved some genuinely great things.

But the accepted (by 'proper' Hmm Labour) narrative appears to be that he sat on a throne of bones executing everyone who crossed him. It's simplistic and tedious, and I'd like to see a more balanced appraisal.

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 17/02/2017 13:05

Excatly Tony Blair is doing what Corbyn should be doing and thank fuck he is

A labour leader who is despised by those on the far left is doing what the current labour leader who is supported by those on the far left should be doing and all they can witter in about is Iraq

Another nail in Corbyn's coffin (politically speaking) bought about by Blair who would have thought that

20nil · 17/02/2017 13:26

Blair should back the hell away from this. I agree with him on Brexit, but he is too divisive a character to lead this. The fact that he can't see that reflects his phenomenal and deluded sense of self worth. I don't think he's doing JC's critics from within the PLP any favours either.

make: we can't equalise starting conditions easily for obvious reasons, but we can invest in education and health massively. Early years support, especially for vulnerable children, is key. Expensive at first but with massive benefits for all in the long term..

PigletWasPoohsFriend · 17/02/2017 13:26

Not sure Blair doing his speech from The City was the wisest move however.

birdsdestiny · 17/02/2017 13:27

Brexit would not have happened if Blair had been leader of the opposition at the time of the referendum.

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 17/02/2017 13:33

I agree a talk in the city isn't the best place to change people's minds and I don't think that will actually happen

And I am not in agreement with all he says but he is trying to hold the government to account and what he says about labour facilitating a Tory Brexit I totally agree with (not quite those words)

flippinada · 17/02/2017 13:44

20mil I understand where you're coming from regarding Blair, he is divisive, but he's the only person with any clout saying it.

flippinada · 17/02/2017 13:44

Sorry, 20nil

Fakenewsday · 17/02/2017 13:53

i both agree with you about Blair being too divisive and think that the fact he's one of the few labour big beasts left just underlines the recent weakness of the party. Blair was very good at building a working consensus on domestic issues. Blair at this stage is a marmite politician because of Iraq and despite his domestic record, so is Corbyn. Underscores the lack of a popular centrist leader yet again.

Lottapianos · 17/02/2017 14:30

'I understand where you're coming from regarding Blair, he is divisive, but he's the only person with any clout saying it.'

Totally agree. If not Blair, then who?! It should be Corbyn but that's not going to happen. Blair is incredibly divisive but is high profile enough to get momentum behind this issue and keep it in the headlines (hopefully), and people won't ignore him

Rugbyplayersarehot · 17/02/2017 15:07

Agree too Blaire is devisive.

birds yes agree it wouldn't

Think Blaire is criticising Corbyn by his speech to be honest.
