to think dog owners shouldn't be allowed to keep their dog

If they don't pick up their shit?

This has probably been done to death but it seriously enrages me so much when I see big piles of shit on the ground or someone walking away after their dog has taken a massive dump somewhere.

Yesterday I only realised I stood in some after the buckle of my baby's sling touched my shoe and I could smell it when putting her into it. Had to spend ages cleaning it and my shoe, plus the pedals in my car Sad Angry Fucking horrible.

Some bastard allowed their dog to shit outside our front gate a couple of weeks ago and didn't bother picking it up. I then took the dogs out for a walk, didn't see the poo and the puppy ate it. Guess who was cleaning vomit up all evening? Angry

Crunchymum · 11/02/2017 00:04

Cats don't shit in the street / in the pavement.

My theory (sadly tested) is that the sort of owners who let their dogs shit and don't clean up, aren't the most reasonable of folk...

Chickennuggetfeeder · 11/02/2017 00:08

Yanbu its disgusting. I live in a block of masonettes where we all have a little section of land either side of the path in and out of our place. The grounds are tiny enough to fit a rotary washing line and a small flower bed. One of our neighbours lets their 3 dogs out who can jump the picket fench and then proceed to run about shitting everywhere and they just leave it. When they have been aproached they claim ignorance even though they spend twice a day chasing them in and out of everyones gardens Angry

Chickennuggetfeeder · 11/02/2017 00:10

Oh and dont get me started on the people who dont pick up their dog poo right next to the bloody dog poo bin Angry

AdoraBell · 11/02/2017 00:13

YANBU and I would like the owner of the dog who craped right outside our gate, so you couldn't walk out without stepping it, to come and fucking clear it up Angry

We have 3 dogs and we always pick up after them.

stonecircle · 11/02/2017 00:17

Donttouchthemoustache - I really don't think another dog walker would think you were a nutcase if you asked them for a poo bag. Why on earth would they?! I've had people ask me and would ask others should the need arise.

KoalaDownUnder · 11/02/2017 00:24

It's a bit like saying 'Car owners shouldn't be allowed to keep their cars if they're caught speeding'.

I agree with the sentiment behind it, but it's OTT and unenforceable. What would you do with all the confiscated dogs? There are already too many dogs that need rehoming, and you can't put the poor dog down for something its arse of an owner did.

As a dog owner who picks up its poo religiously, I think these people are vile. But there must be better ways.

If you've got the manpower to catch offenders in the first place, surely the more realistic solution would be massive fines?

LoveMyLittleSuperhero · 11/02/2017 00:25

MipMipMip it's so much fun isn't it Hmm I think my dog must plan in advance where he will do it. Where will make mummy look the biggest idiot/be the hardest to get to.
Donttouchthemoustache I've done that with leaves too! As for the poo bags ask away, I think most of us would prefer to be asked, I know I would.

PlayOnWurtz · 11/02/2017 00:28

As a dog owner yanbu however most dogs (mine included) would see stray turds as a tasty mid walk snack so chances are it'll disappear soon if it's a popular walk

DontTouchTheMoustache · 11/02/2017 00:29

stonecircle I'm an incredibly anxious person so tend to overanalyse things to the point of making myself ill. To most people it is probably a perfectly normal social interaction, to me it is something to fret about for hours, such is life!

MyKidsHaveTakenMySanity · 11/02/2017 01:05

There's someone with a relatively large dog who allows it to shit outside our local primary school every evening/morning. It's as if the dog now thinks that the pavements going towards the school are where it's supposed to go.

Every. Fucking. Day.

What I wouldn't give to catch them. I carry nappy bags in my car and I would happily tell them they dropped something then hand them the bag, open and dog shit side down right into their palm. Either that or it'll get smeared into the dog's fur.

If we're not early enough, by the time we get to school it's already been stood in and spread by various school kids and the only way to avoid it is to walk in the road. Once my toddler walked it right across the back seats of our 2 month old car getting into her car seat. It was on all the seats, her seat, her clothes, the back of my seat.... I actually cried.

I wish they would put CCTV up. It's a small village so would be very easy to identify the culprit! And yes, they should not be allowed to keep that dog.

YouHadMeAtCake · 11/02/2017 01:35

YADNBU and we have dogs that do big poops a lot

I have got poop bags in practically every pocket of every item of clothing I own that I would wear to walk them. I hate seeing a pile of poop when I clean up every single time , why can't others?!

Where we live (not uk) there are even bins with poop bags attached! Yet still they don't pick up! Only vile people don't pick up their pups poop!

YouHadMeAtCake · 11/02/2017 01:37

Sanity that's not fair to the dog! Rub it on the owners face but not fair to the dog.

sobeyondthehills · 11/02/2017 01:51

My dog does the invisable shit.

I stood there and watched him the other day, he crouched nothing came out. A woman watched me walk away without doing anything and called me on it. she didn't believe me nothing came out and walked around trying to find it.

I was standing there with a bloody bag in my hand.

The other thing my dog does, is find leaves that match the colour of his poo and do it there, so it takes me a while to search for it, if he is a bit of a way and I have taken my eyes off (yes I am giving him more credit than he deserves)

Casschops · 11/02/2017 03:33

I have a dog and always pick up is mess, even when in an area where there is other dog mess. An owner was letting his dog poo just outside my front door (no drive). Picked it up bagged it and put it open on his door step. He not done it since.

Dashper · 11/02/2017 06:27

I completely agree. Some knobend lets their dog poo just on our land and doesn't pick it up. They managed to put it in a bag in our bin this week, so I moved our bin (we don't want smelly dog shit in our bin). The next day's poo was left in a bag in the gutter. If I ever catch them... Even DH who hates dog crap with a passion fears I am getting obsessed Grin

Uiscebeatha85 · 11/02/2017 09:23

There is already polices of massive fines, but they don't seem to be enough of a deterrent. I see people just letting their dog shit and then walking away from it.

People who aren't responsible enough to pick it up shouldn't be allowed to have pets. You can't cherry pick the nice bits of owning a pet and shirk the not so nice bits that need to be done for the sake of other people in the community. It's really selfish.

I also hate people who litter and who speed in their cars by the way. I agree you could apply the same logic. Dog shit is what im ranting about though because I see it more often than McDonald's wrappers.

MagicMojito · 11/02/2017 09:38

Yanbu. Dd1(5) asked me if we can make posters asking people to pick up their dog muck as its like an assault course trying to get to school Sad

Filthy dirty pigs Angry

Never caught anyone in the act though, which is odd as there is literally fresh poo, on the same route every single day.

Slowlygettingthehangofthings · 11/02/2017 09:49

I adore dogs but poop really blights my life! Every time I take the pram out I seem to run over some and it boils my blood. The council do nothing and lazy dog owners seem to get away with it.

Question - these dog poo catching contraptions that are now available, do they actually work? Could anyone see it becoming mandatory that dogs being walked in public must be wearing a bag?

WhirlwindHugs · 11/02/2017 09:49

Most people that leave the poo walk at night apparently. Someone did a study! Nd signs with eyes on watching owners are most effective at changing behaviour.

I agree.

I hate it when a pooing dog has clearly been dragged along. Pay attention to your pet.

Underthemoonlight · 11/02/2017 09:52

I've noticed it near where I live ont he cunto the local primary school my dd has stood in it and it's vile: bloody awful having to dodge it what's worse is there's bins around.

Slowlygettingthehangofthings · 11/02/2017 09:53

Plus, we have a childhood obesity crisis yet all the green spaces where children can play are covered in muck! Grrrrrr!

Underthemoonlight · 11/02/2017 09:55

I've noticed it near where I live down the cut to the local primary schools"

CigarsofthePharoahs · 11/02/2017 09:59

YANBU op. My school run walk seems to be dog shit alley. It's a pretty, suburban, very mc road and it's always got lots of fresh turds. I'm fed up of bellowing "Look out for the poo!" at my 6 year old. I have seen numerous dog walkers in the morning, all have bags with them so I have no idea of the culprit. I'd be tempted to bag it up and post it to them if I did! Wasn't there a council who started spray painting them pink a while back?

Hewillalwaysbemyman · 11/02/2017 10:11

It always makes me wonder who the dog owners are who don't pick up after their dogs as whenever there is something on here about it, everyone always says they do!
