On Gorsuch - can the Emperor withdraw his nomination? The fact he spoke out about the treatment of the federal courts would, I imagine, have gone down like a lead balloon with the thin-skinned one.

Does make me nervous that he may go with that horrific pick, William Pryor.. at least Gorsuch seems to have principals? Well, to be fair so does Pryor - his are just not my cup of tea (he called Roe v Wade an abomination Sad)

cozietoesie · 10/02/2017 00:04

Yes, he can as far as I'm aware. It would be a ..........challenging move though.

GingerIvy · 10/02/2017 00:05

He can, however, it will seriously delay it all over again, and then he risks not getting his choice into SCOTUS. I'm wondering if ego will push him to try to talk Gorsuch around.....

Place marking - Thank God the Courts have put some checks in place. So Trump is off to see some more so called judges at the Supreme Court.

SenecaFalls · 10/02/2017 00:06

Would he risk withdrawing recommendation for Gorsuch and putting in a lackey instead?

It would be hard to get a lackey (as opposed to a sitting federal judge) confirmed. There are quite a few Republican senators who are very committed to the notion of an independent judiciary and they would likely revolt. It's not like cabinet appointments where the senate tends to defer to the president's choices.

cozietoesie · 10/02/2017 00:07

I reckon he'll 'take the chance', Ginger.

Lweji · 10/02/2017 00:08

BTW, Trump on Gorsuch:

"One of the great writers. They say legal writers. I've read some of the things that's he's written and believe me he's a great great writer"

Now...
A) Believe me? Really? That is the first indication that he's lying.
B) He's actually read something Gorsuch has written? I assume he has a twitter account then.
C) "They say legal writers" - what does he mean? They say he's a legal writer? They say he's a great writer, so that translates in Trump saying from "his experience" that he is?

Seneca Sorry - I didn't mean lackey as in completely inexperienced (like everyone else he's choosing Hmm) I mean someone less experienced that Gorsuch that might be perhaps... less impartial?? If such a judge exists at that level. I don't know the likely candidates.

SenecaFalls · 10/02/2017 00:20

Ginger I was thinking more of someone who is not a judge, but a lawyer who owes his career in part to Trump. It's been tried before; most recently by George W. Bush, but he eventually had to withdraw the nomination.
