Well if I was a burglar with transport, I would be heading to all the rural areas to clean up.
We have door latches that we use when we are in the house in the day time that can stop the door being opened easily/quietly but don't need a key to be opened from the inside. Obviously all doors locked at night or when we are out.
I think most people do this unless in very remote areas, where there is one burglary every 30 years or whatever and any that do happen is the talk of the area for decades afterwards. Like this where a shop on a remote Scottish island suffered the first burglary for 50 years.
Whereas in cities or suburbs, sneak in burglaries are a real threat - several of my colleagues, most of whom live in the naice areas of the city, have been burgled, some more than once, by people walking in through unlocked doors while they were at home. It is very easy to walk in, pick up laptops, tablets, phones, car keys, money, cards, jewellry etc and be in and out undetected in a minute or two.
In our area, there was a spate of crimes where the perpetrators followed women home from the supermarket/town to walk in and rob them because the first thing a lot of women do when they get home is go to the toilet, which gives theives a guaranteed couple of minutes to grad what they can, probably including the handbag that has been dumped close to the front door.
