Maybe I am, but one bucket?

Let me say I usually do the cleaning of floors. We have a moderate sized 3 bed semi which has ceramic tiled floors throughout the downstairs and two dogs!

I Hoover and sweep the floors every day and will spot clean. Or use a floor wipe where the dc have split a drink etc. Then 3/4 times a week I will mop as well.

I use one bucket of water with cleaner for the hallway and lounge, another for the dining room and study and another for the kitchen and utility.

Dh has the day off today and so while I took the dc to school he made a start on the floors. I came home and he was just finishing the dining room and about to start the kitchen. He didn't change the water. I asked as casually as I could when he changed the water and he said he didn't need to one bucket was enough for the downstairs and he'd change it to do the bathroom and loos upstairs

I'm now at work thinking I need to do the floors again when I get in as kitchen at the very least won't be very clean. It's been wet and muddy here so the water won't have been very clean for the kitchen floor.

YABU and wasting a shameful amount of water while you're at it.

I don't have dogs, but if you vac every day and take shoes off, how dirty can your floor's get?? Do the dogs have the run of the house?

Silverthorn · 08/02/2017 09:40

I mop our hard floors about every 10days. Blush Also have a crawling baby. Hmm

I do spot clean, but one bucket is enough and the water is never that dirty at the end. We do have a shoes off policy and no pets however. Confused
Wanders off thread to get mop and bucket out...

Floggingmolly · 08/02/2017 09:41

Your immune system must be crying out for a few cooties to work on...

AdoraBell · 08/02/2017 09:41

YABU in that he is cleaning in a way that works for him. Leave him to get on with it.

YANBU in regard to using clean water instead of spreading dirt from one room to another, IMHO.

GinIsIn · 08/02/2017 09:42

That is a strange level of obsession with floors. The fact that you are sat at work dwelling on the floors, which have been swept and spot cleaned daily and already mopped 2-3 times in the last 7 days is NOT normal.

greenworm · 08/02/2017 09:43

We have ceramic tiling throughout, and floors get mopped once every two weeks.

Even when we had a dog.

I think you can afford to relax a bit more!

UghUgh · 08/02/2017 09:46

Steam mops are good.

Do you all wear shoes in the house? Perhaps, if you do, you could switch to slippers so it does t get a dirty.

Aki23 · 08/02/2017 09:46

Same size house, one dog two cats. Laminate/tiles downstairs. One bucket, hot water plus cleaner is enough. I do this once a week (how you have time 3/4 times a week I have no idea) and wipe up any spills with wipes/towels.

Pigflewpast · 08/02/2017 09:51

Get a steam mop, fantastic. Much cleaner than a mop, you can change cover between rooms if it gets dirty, you're not using chemicals and your floors aren't wet for ages after. We have dogs and hard floors and I swear by it. Not every day though 😳

Aki23 · 08/02/2017 09:57

OOh Pig - ive been tempted by a steam mop - will need to look into again

Notso · 08/02/2017 09:58

It depends if you are rinsing/wringing the mop out or not I think.
I'd get steam mop and loads of extra covers. I vacuum and mop the kitchen and downstairs loo every day give or take, it takes about 5 mins with the steam mop, it used to take half an hour or more with the old mop.

Skinfulnappies46 · 08/02/2017 10:00

One bucket is plenty. You clean them very frequently. As long as they are changed for bathroom then it's fine. Wish my DH would mop! Think URBU

SaucyJack · 08/02/2017 10:01

Erm.....

I'd like to post something helpful and comforting, but I don't give enough of a fuck about how my own floor is mopped- let alone some random stranger's.

Is this really a worthy use of your headspace?

AddToBasket · 08/02/2017 10:02

YABU. Your DH just cleaned the floor. And, yes, you are over-focussed on cleaning and need wider interests.

PickAChew · 08/02/2017 10:03

Do you eat off the floor?

NeedMoreSleepOrSugar · 08/02/2017 10:05

Gosh you'd hate me. My downstairs is almost all tiled and is huge. Unless the floor is properly dirty/muddy I always use one bucket. (Dc but no pets) That said, the water is still quite clear afterwards so I'm satisfied that it's cleaned properly!

ImperialBlether · 08/02/2017 10:05

I think you need more interests, OP!

YABU. for all the reasons people have already said!

UnicornMadeOfPinkGlitter · 08/02/2017 10:11

It's a rented house so no choice on the flooring and yes it's white. Well off white but shows every mark and dog hair.

Thought I was being very practical choosing this house with a black Labrador that moults continuously. But every mark is seen.

Funnily enough it's only the floors I'm bothered about. I hate cleaning and ironing etc. But the sight of the dog hairs drives me loopy. Yes the dogs do have the run of downstairs they aren't allowed upstairs and only rarely go through the hallway enroute to a walk but usually go out the back door.

I thought I was being slack over the floors. My friend says she would have to mop at least twice a day if she lived here. Maybe I need more slovenly friends then I wouldn't be so bothered.
