and then dump half the shit there and say 'oh i changed my mind on these actually i only want this this and this, but not ALL THIS OTHER SHIT I HAVE'
why? why did you even put that stuff in your basket then? why didn't you put it back when you decided you didnt want it?
Today someone handed me two kitkats declaring "just one of these please!"
wtf. why didn't you just pick one up then!? it's a 3 second or so walk to the till, how did you change your mind in that time? why are you giving me the kitkat you dont want?
is it just me or is this really fucking weird?
do people just walk around shops, putting things they think they might want in their basket, wait until they get to the till and then decide if they actually want any of the things they picked up??

Yes it is bloody annoying behaviour. It's not hard to think about what you want before getting to the checkout. I also hate the idiots who put their shopping on the conveyor belt then wander off to get whatever shopping they'd "forgotten" - especially when the checkout person is ready to serve them and you're stood round like a cXXt (clot) waiting for them to come back!

Whilst I would agree that serving the customer - in whatever fashion, even by accepting unwanted items - is the job ... I'm sorry. Have a little courtesy, a little respect, a little SENSE. If you don't want the item, don't pick it up. If you decide you don't want it later, take it back - especially if it is a fridge or freezer item. Don't presume that the retail staff are your dogsbody to pick up after you.

I meant the berating on this thread Jiggly, I know staff are far more likely to be berated by a customer (for something that is entirely not their fault) than they are to berate even a deserving customer in store.

I'm just saying that if this particular issue is actually a problem in terms of working conditions then you should be moaning about your management - since it's the way they set up the stores - and ideally organizing and negotiating with them about it. If it's just a "I hate having to do my reasonable job, why do customers take our shop up on their promise of a relatively convenient grocery experience?" thing, then moaning about it will just make your own life worse unless its a catalyst to changing jobs.

And, no, I can't put things back on every shelf I can get them off. I can rarely reach the two uppermost shelves in most supermarkets. I have to jump and nudge the edge item over the lip of the shelf and catch it, or use another item near by as a sort of arm extension to knock the item down and catch it. I could just toss the item back onto the top shelf, but that's often a bit dangerous really.

But that's not why I don't put everything back.

I had scanned all the items and i came across the filled pasta right at the bottom under everything else (like i said first thing in the basket). I did spend a minute or two considering what to do, buy them? Nope too much on top of the other pasta and i wouldnt eat it by the expiration date. put it back? Abandoning the shopping and taking the buggy across the (admittedly small) store to the back to put them back, doesnt seem resonable. Find an assistant? Two on the cigarette counter with a huge queue none others in sight not even the actual checkouts. Idk where the self scan guy was because i had had a unknown item on scale at least twice and no one turned up to rectify that, had to pop the offending items in the buggy basket to keep going, only time i had actually seen him was when he took the previous customers basket away, which is what i figured he would do with mine. I did stand there for about 2 or 3 minutes but baby screaming because we are not moving so had to finish and go.
