Used by 4 Feb....

Smells fine.

Would you cook and eat it today?

Yep

321zerobaby · 05/02/2017 15:04

Yes

NarkyMcDinkyChops · 05/02/2017 15:04

Yeah. The chicken doesn't know the date and it doesn't turn bad on the stroke of midnight!

AlmostAJillSandwich · 05/02/2017 15:05

As long as meat doesn't look discoloured and smells normal yes, i'd eat it one day after use by date. I don't think i'd use it any later though, even if it still looked/smelled ok.

Wolfiefan · 05/02/2017 15:05

No. Not chicken.

Creatureofthenight · 05/02/2017 15:05

Good grief, there was one of these yesterday. If it looks fine and smells fine, it will be fine.

SpuriouserAndSpuriouser · 05/02/2017 15:06

Yes, but I would aim to use it all up and not keep any leftovers.

CrazyDuchess · 05/02/2017 15:06

Yup as long as it smelled funeral and not slimy

Imnotbeverley · 05/02/2017 15:06

No chance. I mean it would probably be fine but it's just not worth the risk, could you even enjoy it if you chanced it?

ChaChaChaCh4nges · 05/02/2017 15:06

Does it make any difference that I'll be feeding it to the DCs? Youngest is 5.

Yes - use your common sense, smell look and taste
I made an omelette for DP at his house last night with eggs dated November! It was fine

NarkyMcDinkyChops · 05/02/2017 15:07

What risk? What do you think occurred to make it unsafe to eat at 12.01am that wasn't there at 11.59pm last night?

ArmySal · 05/02/2017 15:07

No.

No. It's either ok or its not.

MyCatIsABiggerBastardThanYours · 05/02/2017 15:08

Yes.

Lifeisshort123 · 05/02/2017 15:08

Yes if it smells okay and looks okay.

Wolfiefan · 05/02/2017 15:09

OP isn't cooking it at 12:01 though. Confused
Use by dates are there for a reason. You can't smell or see everything that could make you unwell. I really wouldn't risk it.

ChaChaChaCh4nges · 05/02/2017 15:09

It smells, looks and feels perfect.

"smelled funeral"

Well, that doesn't bode well…

NarkyMcDinkyChops · 05/02/2017 15:11

As a guide. Not as a law.
Seriously, if you think its a risk you must know what that risk is and how it became risky instantly? So what is it?

Doje · 05/02/2017 15:13

Yep. In fact I've got a chicken in the oven right now that has a use by of 4th Feb! Don't tell my husband!!!

tigermoll · 05/02/2017 15:20

It will be fine. Make sure it is thoroughly cooked (as you would with any chicken), wash your hands after handling the raw meat and you will be totally fine.

bloodyteenagers · 05/02/2017 15:20

I would.
But then I sometimes buy produce from butchers/fish monger/pick your own.. Not a date in sight. The food doesn't know it's supposed to go bad before a certain date. So your left with your own sense of smell and look. If it looks bad smells funny then oh don't eat it.
But I have also had milk with days to go and it's gone off.

LoveMyLittleSuperhero · 05/02/2017 15:22

Liz I noticed that too Grin if it smells funeral don't touch it!
If it smells and looks fine, cook it, (thoroughly obv) and serve it up!

ChaChaChaCh4nges · 05/02/2017 15:23

It's in...
