To think I should be able to feel my stomach again?

I had a c-section 16 months ago and I still can't feel the lower part of my stomach at the front. Is this permanent?

I was wondering what other people's experiences were, and if I'm being unreasonable to expect that the feeling will return at some point.

It's not a massive thing - I'm diabetic so I've got a lovely numb patch to aim at for injections - I just think it's a bit weird and it was unexpected.

13 years on and I still have a numb patch on the left hand side of the scar

ChanandlerBongsNeighbour · 05/02/2017 17:01

Not on my tummy but I had facial surgery when I was 18 where all the incisions were inside my mouth, separating my 'face' from my jaws above and below my teeth (does that make sense??) nerve trauma immediately after meant a numb lower face and neck for a few weeks/months after surgery and now, 17 years later I still have a small patch of numbness below my mouth on the right, sort of cold and tingly if I touch it, strange when putting cream on!

TwatteryFlowers · 05/02/2017 17:04

I had a cs nearly 6 years ago and still have a numb patch on the right hand of my scar and the areas around it patch feel extra sensitive.

Giraffesaretootall · 05/02/2017 17:07

Yep, still numb here too after 13 years.

StillStayingClassySanDiego · 05/02/2017 17:07

I've had a csection and 5 years ago I had an abdominal hysterectomy, it's still numb in areas around the site.

LlamaBananas · 05/02/2017 17:08

22 years 3 secyion andc2 laparotomirs. No sensation at all. I think i only ever had partial sensation return after my first surgery and that was 2.5 years before tgey went back in again.
16 months ago i had an op on my neck. It was still 100% numb when they ooerated again 9 months ago. Its still completely numb. I expect some sensation to return very gradually over time but doubt it will come back properly .
Must be annoying for you with having to inject.

KeiraH · 05/02/2017 17:12

I had a csection 4 month ago and have areas I still can't feel. Got me really worried as it went back to normal when I had a section with my son but apparently it's quiet normal

Longdistance · 05/02/2017 17:14

Not tummy.

I broke my tib and fib 4 years ago, had surgery on the inside and outside of my right leg (two metal plates and 19 screws) and i have patches on my inside leg that are numb. The outside is ok, just the inside.

SheNumpty · 05/02/2017 22:44

TWATTERYFLOWERS That's why I am asking really, the areas around the numb part are super sensitive. I was hoping that if the feeling came back a bit more then the sensitivity would also calm down. Seems I may have a very long wait. Sad

TwatteryFlowers · 05/02/2017 23:01

It's not as bad as it was. For the first year I could not bear it being touched at all but now it's not too bad - just more sensitive than everywhere else. I can't remember when it became bearable though, sorry

SheNumpty · 05/02/2017 23:11

Hey, as long as there's hope it will eventually ease up I am more than happy. Smile

I'm nearly 11 years post c-sec and I still can't feel the lower part of my stomach!

EllenRipley · 05/02/2017 23:22

Yep, still numb seven years later! And sometimes it gets itchy but I can't find the itchy spot.

SheepyFun · 05/02/2017 23:24

4 years post c-section, and there's an area I still can't feel.

When I went for my 6 week check at the GP with DD, I asked the doctor if sensation would return. She asked if I'd had sensation there before - to be fair I had several abdominal operations as a child, which is obvious if you look at my stomach, but I wasn't expecting miracles (I'd had full sensation before the c-section).

SpookyPotato · 05/02/2017 23:35

Mine was really numb for quite a while, a year I think.. Just had a feel now and it's slightly numb an inch either side (3 yrs later) I don't notice to be honest, I never come into contact with it!

Tokelau · 05/02/2017 23:52

I had a section 16 years ago, and still have a numb patch above my scar. And an overhang, which I hate. Sad

nooka · 06/02/2017 00:03

My sections were 17 and 16 years ago and I was numb for years. I also had a period where I had weird pins ad needles in the same area (about an inch ether side). Now it's pretty much normal except it's quite painful to sneeze (adhesions I assume).

Katietwinmum · 06/02/2017 00:35

Yep same here. Patches of my belly above the scar are numb / feel cooler temp often. Sometimes get a sensation like something is touching stomach or making it itch. Boys are 19 months.

FishlessCake · 06/02/2017 04:44

Mine got all feeling back before Christmas 4 years down the line. I was starting to give up, plus like a pp I would get an itch but no idea where, it was torture.

blueredyellow · 06/02/2017 09:13

Ok, why the hell I couldn't remember the term - it's called Dry Skin Brushing - it was suggested to me by a plastic surgeon, along with gentle massage and the use of the prescribed scar reduction cream... It took about 18 months for me to get feeling back. I had to do brushing every couple of hours, and cream and light massage four times a day.

Lindy2 · 06/02/2017 09:17

I had a numb patch for about 18 months. It went back to normal after that though. It was actually quite a bonus for waxing while it lasted!

ShatnersBassoon · 06/02/2017 09:28

I have a rectangular patch about 6"x3" that I can't feel at all above an abdominal surgery scar. I had the op about 13 years ago, so there's no hope of sensation returning now.

SheNumpty · 06/02/2017 19:55

Blueredyellow thank you for that but Jesus, who the heck can put in that much time? I'll give it a go but I'm not sure I can do that much of it! Shock

Dd is 3.5 and I'm still numb in places!

OonaLoona2 · 06/02/2017 20:36

I've never had a section but had a ridiculously massive bump with baby #3 due to too much amniotic fluid and I've been numb from belly button to just above pubic area ever since (4yrs) . I assume it will stay that way now
