Former - their money is in oil and coal, so he wants fossil fuels used more (hence the pipeline stuff going on). He doesn't believe in all that eco stuff, climate issues, global warming so doesn't want any "green" energy

oh sure, I get all that but cobatting climate change/environmental damage arent the only benefits of renewable energy.
Cheap/free energy = prosperity for all, the rest of the world will develop and the US will be stuck using yesterdays technology

The draft order seeks to create wholesale exemptions for people and organizations who claim religious or moral objections to same-sex marriage, premarital sex, abortion, and trans identity, and it seeks to curtail women’s access to contraception and abortion through the Affordable Care Act
I just don't think that's going to fly, Americans want to be part of the modern world, with modern freedoms

Formerpigwrestler9 · 02/02/2017 00:55

why does he want to turn the US into a backward, repressive religiously dominated country?

Former I think you vastly overestimate certain populations in the US.

PausingFlatly · 02/02/2017 01:00

And there's a good article on Vox about how the press might start dealing with White House briefings: Watch: How should the media cover a White House that isn’t afraid to lie?

Its primary suggestion is that news organisations stop wasting their most experienced staff on a mere propaganda circus and send them out to do investigative journalism; the interns can fill the seats at the circus.

[The video article is right below the bit gasping at Trump and Spicer's apparent belief that Frederick Douglass (1818-1895) is still alive. Do you reckon Spicer congratulated himself on his clever fielding of that question, right up to the moment he left the room and someone could sidle up and say, "Em, Sean..."]

GingerIvy · 02/02/2017 01:02

Pausing - oh, to have seen his face when he realised he made a utter fool of himself.Grin

"e Court · Law · Donald Trump
WASHINGTON—Praising the federal appellate judge’s commitment to upholding the Constitution, President Trump hailed his Supreme Court justice nominee Neil Gorsuch as a fierce protector of the future amendment that will allow the president to temporarily suspend the right to assemble. “I am confident that Judge Gorsuch will do everything in his power to see that every line of the Constitution, including the forthcoming amendment to grant the executive branch the power to halt all public protests, will be safeguarded as the law of the land,” said Trump, adding that Gorsuch’s strict adherence to the country’s supreme law, both in its present and very near future iterations, was what drew him to the 49-year-old judge in the first place. “If his track record is any indication, Judge Gorsuch will act as a stalwart defender of our nation’s founding legal document, which will soon contain a 28th amendment granting the president sole authority to restrict the public’s ability to collectively air grievances. He has my full vote of confidence in these matters.” Trump went on to say, however, that Gorsuch was also practical enough to know when certain parts of the Constitution didn’t need to be taken quite so seriously."

Destinysdaughter · 02/02/2017 01:17

( That was from the satirical magazine, The Onion! But, chillingly, didn't seem that shocking after the events of the last week...)

BagelGoesWalking · 02/02/2017 01:24

Pausing Thanks for the link to the article about the Muslim and Jewish families protesting together, it was lovely.

Destinysdaughter · 02/02/2017 01:25

This is heartening tho and again showing that protests DO make a difference.

Trump's protectionism will damage the US economy and strengthen China's, ironically. Tourism will also be negatively affected.

The Republicans are trying to sell off 3.3million acres of Federal Land - and probably wouldn't even make a profit on it: www.theguardian.com/environment/2017/jan/31/public-lands-sell-congress-bureau-management-chaffetz?CMP=share_btn_tw

They would, however, do yet more damage to the environment...

TheClaws · 02/02/2017 02:48

The way he treated Malcolm Turnbull - my country's Prime Minister - was deplorable. This is not a corporation he is running, or a game show. Leaders must be diplomatic and respectful, particularly of allies. The US have significant military bases in Australia. The country has allowed this partnership due to our close relationship. Idiot. Words fail me.

saffronwblue · 02/02/2017 03:07

Yes, agree Claws . Wish Turnbull would grow a spine and some principles but wish even more that Trump had one clue about how to conduct any sort of governmental or diplomatic discussion. Or any sense at all about alliances and how many Australian soldiers have died fighting in American inspired wars.

AcrossthePond55 · 02/02/2017 03:24

Oh. My. GOD!!! He spent today insulting other world leaders whilst simultaneously bragging about his 'amazing, historic, electoral college victory and the crowds at the inauguration'.

I'd like to dig a hole, climb into it, and pull it over me. He's going to end up getting us nuked.

SingingInTheRainstorm · 02/02/2017 04:18

It's all kicking off something to do with Breitbart owner speaking somewhere & its carnage, police trying to control it badly.

GigotdAgneau · 02/02/2017 05:19

I am putting my latest theory out there. Scoff if you will: The orange tyrant is going to turn the US Presidency into a male hereditary dictatorship. With no opposition. Certain US States will secede to join Canada. I'm not sure if that is as far fetched as the theory that Trump will start WWIII?
(Don't get me started on Brexit. Depressed, moi?)

saffronwblue · 02/02/2017 05:23

It is all kicking off re Australia now!

TheClaws · 02/02/2017 05:36

Latest tweet from POTUS. A person supposed to be a statesman, a diplomat, capable of handling foreign relations with respect and dignity.

"Do you believe it? The Obama Administration agreed to take thousands of illegal immigrants from Australia. Why? I will study this dumb deal!"

Without commenting on the content - the veracity of the claim - what world leader does that? So, so wrong.
