AIBU about making up formula at night?

A friend of mine told me she boils the kettle, waits 30 minutes for it to cool etc before making a bottle all while her Dd is screaming to be fed during the night.
AIBU to think that's madness?! Surely most people don't do that?!
Obviously a lot of people have perfect prep machines now but that still involves getting out of bed etc.
I make up bottles in advance, cool them and keep them in the fridge and then at bedtime I take one to bed in a cool bag and DS drinks it whenever he wakes up. I am obviously a lazy sod but there's no way I would be standing about waiting for water to cool down at 2am!

Everything's a faff isn't it, with babies, one way or another. Bottle feeding in a sling sounds very handy too.

Ste0511 · 02/02/2017 23:02

Buy a second PP machine for bedroom if you can afford it and take a clean bottle up to bed with you

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 02/02/2017 23:05

You can breastfeed in a sling, or just standing holding your baby, if necessary.

No,YOU might've been able to that doesn't mean all women can. And wtf has that got do with making up formula?

AssassinatedBeauty · 02/02/2017 23:09

Sorry, I was responding to chocolates post about how sorry she felt for breastfeeding mums who can't feed their babies whilst queueing in a shop. I can see that was the wrong thing to do.

smellyboot · 02/02/2017 23:16

With both of ours I made bottles up and left in fridge. PInged in microwave at 3/4am handed to baby as soon as old enough and I went back to bed. All my mates did this within last 8 years. No child ever ill etc
I had two who both needed a feed in night for almost 2 years each..

MotherofA · 02/02/2017 23:51

I'm 33 weeks pregnant and DP decided to get a prep machine but if not I would definitely be at least preparing the water in advance if not all of it or using ready made cartons ... I did use to make say 3 bottles in advance with my DD 10 years ago and she never got bugs etc .

Singasongofsadness · 03/02/2017 00:54

Ain't nobody got time for that

Trifleorbust · 03/02/2017 08:08

I don't know whether it's just me but does anyone read MN and want to have a little sob at how easy some people make looking after a new baby sound? Sad

They 'pop' their boob in their LO's mouth lying down in bed and are able to stay asleep through this? Wow. Mine will feed in that position but she will throw up and cry if she isn't sat up and winded afterwards. She will usually need her nappy changing and she is on colic drops before each feed. No way would I be getting away with dozing next to her as she fed on and off through the night.

Still, different for everyone, I suppose. Confused

Trifleorbust · 03/02/2017 08:30

I sometimes suspect these are the same people who 'chuck' the ingredients in the slow cooker for supper before 'rustling up a simple lunch with pud'. Grin

I'm just jealous as I struggle with going to the toilet on my own at the moment.

Trifle, that's just how I feel! Nothing with DS was easy.

I don't think I have it particularly bad to be honest, but I am still struggling with basic tasks!

Cookiemonster14 · 03/02/2017 09:40

We had a perfect prep at home but while camping on holiday or out and about, I'd put 3 ounces of boiled water in a bottle and leave it to cool, then fill up a flask. Empty the hot water into the bottle when needed and add formula. Sometimes needed cooling further but never longer than 5 mins

PeachBellini123 · 03/02/2017 10:18

Trifle - I really struggled with breastfeeding. DS is now combination feed. I thank God for formula in the early days when my baby was screaming for feed but my milk wasn'the coming in and he was struggling to latch on.

Even now I'd probably choose to use a bottle when out. Not because of breastfeeding in public but for my baby is actually easier and means DH or DM can do the feed if needs be.

My baby is pretty easy going but looking after a baby is relentless (for me)

PeachBellini123 · 03/02/2017 10:19

apologies for typos but cuddling DS and typing!

Notso · 03/02/2017 10:39

I'm jealous of anyone who managed more sleep through bed sharing. My newborns might have fed in their sleep but I was lying awake petrified that DH would have one of his night terrors and hurt the baby as he has hurt me on many occasions or my large, floppy boob would suffocate them, or as they got older they would keep me awake by kicking me in the head/stomach/fanjo or clawing at my face with those razor nails. I reserved bed sharing for the terrible nights when they just wouldn't settle and I couldn't take the crying anymore.

Trifleorbust · 03/02/2017 10:44

or my large, floppy boob would suffocate them

Yep - know that feeling!

And that one!

PeachBellini123 · 03/02/2017 10:54

Notso - we don't bedshare for those reasons.

LexieLulu · 03/02/2017 10:59

One of my friends who had twins before I had children, gave me the best and only advice I have took on.

She makes up a couple of bottles at a time, and always feeds her child cooled down milk. Easier to get it right when it's not warm, no crying babies of the night waiting for milk, and you are always ready.

Notso · 03/02/2017 11:02

Glad it's not just me! Was chatting to Mum from school the other day and we were saying how our 4 year olds still get into our bed. She was waxing lyrical over how lovely it was to have cuddles all night, I agreed because I was embarrassed to say the reality is I lie there thinking get the fuck off me and often creep out to sleep in DS's bed.

I'd also like to point out I have two large, floppy boobs not just one giant floppy mono boob as my post read to me. Not sure what's worse though!

PeachBellini123 · 03/02/2017 11:24

Well my baby's a mini hot water bottle...I like being cool when I sleep!

Ftlofg · 03/02/2017 12:51

each to their own i guess. But what your friend does seems like a nightmare to me. I used to make up 24 hours worth of formula for ds, put in a jug and keep in fridge. milk was then poured into bottle and bunged in microwave to heat up. Meh, ds is still alive and kicking and we didnt have any problems. I didnt wind him neither after feeding. worked for us.

jackieeee · 03/02/2017 13:04

I have always done the same as you 9
Op, never had any problems.

firsttimemummy85 · 06/02/2017 14:27

Hi just wondering if anyone has had any problems with baby being constipated when using perfect prep. Have just watched the watchdog programme about the machine and now im concerned and not sure whether to keepcusing it
