According to a poll quoted on Channel 4, 57% Americans support Trump's ban on Muslims so despite all the coverage of protests and marches, it is possible many Americans don't feel the same.

MycatsaPirate · 30/01/2017 20:35

Abbeylee Are you serious?

You DO know that's how Nazi Germany started out don't you? Blaming one minority for every single problem. Because the Jews were taking all the jobs and houses and taking over and had too much money blah blah blah.

News for you sweetie. Food prices have gone up everywhere. Fact.
Jobs are harder to get everywhere. Fact.
Payrises are pretty non existent in the UK as well. Fact.

Shame on you for choosing to blame Muslims for the issues in your country.

user7214743615 · 30/01/2017 20:35

You do know that forbidden news is not exactly an unbiased source, right?

If you poll right wingers, you are going to get a right wing biased poll.

Terrifying how such articles can write blatant untruths as facts.

M0stlyHet · 30/01/2017 20:37

Holy hell - Pryor is the devil incarnate.

From Rousette's link:
As Alabama's twice-elected attorney general, Pryor defended the state's practice of handcuffing prison inmates to hitching posts in the hot sun if they refused to work on chain gangs. A staunch defender of federalism, he filed an amicus brief in a Supreme Court case, Lawrence v. Texas, that ultimately invalidated state sodomy laws, arguing that "states should remain free to protect the moral standards of their communities through legislation that prohibits homosexual sodomy."

GingerIvy · 30/01/2017 20:37

I don't think it's helpful at all to turn this into a bunfight. We've gotten through 6 threads without one, I'd hate to see another.

Abbeylee If you feel the need to extoll Trump's virtues, might I suggest you start a new thread, so like minded people can discuss it with you there. Thanks. Smile

Don't think this has been posted yet - hope this goes through. Proud to be Irish today.

Not sure where you live in the US Abby but that certainly isn't true for where we are. Nothing you've said is true for where we are. As others said, it also has nothing to do the matters immediately at hand.

GingerIvy · 30/01/2017 20:38

user sorry, did I link to a bad news site? I try to stick to the main reliable ones. I'll be a bit more careful.

Was at Oxford demo. Great. Haven't seen so many students at an Oxford rally for more than 20 years.

I don't live in the US, but I've visited several times over the last ten years and I certainly haven't seen costs trebling.

It's also not remotely backed up by US CPI or food inflation statistics which I can find.

Can you back up your claims of trebling costs with actual facts?

M0stlyHet · 30/01/2017 20:42

From the BBC

This was just so poignant:
Ms Levy's placard reads: "Anne Frank could have been an 87-year-old living in Boston today but she was denied a Visa."

amispartacus · 30/01/2017 20:42

Rasmussen poll

A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone and online survey finds that 57% of Likely U.S. Voters favor a temporary ban on refugees from Syria, Iraq, Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan and Yemen until the federal government approves its ability to screen out potential terrorists from coming here.

Telephone, online....National Survey of 1,000 U.S. Likely Voters

  • Do you favor or oppose a temporary ban on refugees from Syria, Iraq, Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan and Yemen until the federal government improves its ability to screen out potential terrorists from coming here?

2* Do you favor or oppose a temporary block on visas prohibiting residents of Syria, Iraq, Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan and Yemen from entering the United States until the federal government improves its ability to screen out potential terrorists from coming here?

Interesting - you could argue it was very very leading questions.

user I only added the link as the same poll was quoted on the Channel 4 news less than an hour ago. I would agree it is completely possible that it is a biased poll but it is being quoted in U.K. mainstream media and if it is even slightly reflective, then shows that not everyone shares the majority of opinions expressed in this thread. I suspect he would still have strong support in parts of America for all his actions so far but I can imagine this would be very difficult to accurately measure in an unbiased way.

amispartacus · 30/01/2017 20:44

The source it fine. The poll is a real poll.

BUT you need to look at the questions, the numbers and the way it was carried out.

Then you can counter.

1000 people. Phone and online (so how does that work), leading question.

OP posts:
M0stlyHet · 30/01/2017 20:45

Massively leading questions, bearing only a very superficial resemblance to what Trump's actually enacted. He's banning green card holders who've already been vetted. And not from any of the countries responsible for any of the terrorist offences carried out in the US since 9/11.

GingerIvy · 30/01/2017 20:45

amispartacus oh that wasn't me then. I didn't link to a poll.

StatisticallyChallenged · 30/01/2017 20:45

I think if we've seen anything proven over the last couple of years, it's that polling isn't working well and fails to capture the true responses at a population level. Brexit, Trump, Indyref, general election...I'm very wary about polling at the moment.

illegitimateMortificadospawn · 30/01/2017 20:47

Managed to post this on the old thread

This is the most shameless place mark ever. Obama's place mark was way smaller than mine and less notable. Anyone else that says different is lying. FAKE NEWS!!!!

It's easy to get the right answers if you ask the right people and get them to do it online.

But yes, there are no doubt many Americans and many people in the UK who have an issue with Muslims. With LGBT people. Black people. Who want their country to be great again. Who 'other' people. Who don't give a shit if they 'other' people who are not like them.

Just because a lot of people agree does not make it right.

I think their poll is bollocks. They have put trump's approval rating at 57%. Every other reputable source has is at under 50% and the lowest in history. See this from the telegraph
