I am being a bit unreasonable but cant help it. Dm is what most people on here would class as either underclass/low working class. Not as stereotypical as the ones you see on tv we grew up in poverty but home was slways clean and well presented as were we. Kids including myself all grown up into mostly socially responsible adults. This is just to give context As i wonder if background plays a part. Basically she got a bit annoyed at me as her pip is up for renewal and has been rejected (in line imo with tory cutbacks and not because her condition has changed she is most likely to appeal ). I tried explaining that being rejected is most likely a result of tory cutbacks against the disabled and maybe she sould consider voting against them in thr next election. Dm doesnt believe me and refuses to vote. Doesnt believe me about the 2 child rule in april neither. Aibu for not really having any sympathy for her predicament if she isnt at least willing to do the minimal thing of voting. Appatently last time she voted was for m thatcher. Of course this is entirely my opinion but the torys have no interest in the likes of my dm who is disabled and cant work/havent worked most of working life. She has only just in yje last 5 years become disabled before tjat she was a single uneployed parent. Im on phone so apologies for soelling etc and probably slow reply.

To me the word is awful and I hate to think of people being called it. It suggest that someone is lower than another and that's why I hate it

VeryBitchyRestingFace · 30/01/2017 23:49

And for the record i would never insist my mum vote Labour. she could vote green or independent or whatever.

That "whatever" is never going to include the Conservative Party, is it?

You don't mind what your mum votes as long as it sits somewhere on the continuum of your political ideals.

How very noble of you.

caroldecker · 30/01/2017 23:49

OP - typically left leaning intolerance on your part.

ginghambox · 30/01/2017 23:51

Because most people if forced to vote would vote Conservative.

Ftlofg · 31/01/2017 00:03

She could vote Tory if she wanted, then she really couldnt complain when her benefits were cut as she would have voted for that. But in general, no i wouldnt suggest to her to vote for a party that absolutely has her worst interests at heart. Unless the Tory party are for protecting the disabled, the disenfranchised, the unemployed, those that are reliant on the NHS? Are they, did i miss their latest campaign?

She could vote Tory if she wanted

Yes, she could. And it would be none of your business.

But in general, no i wouldnt suggest to her to vote for a party that absolutely has her worst interests at heart

Why do you think you should get to suggest to another adult who they should vote for?

I think you should just avoid political discussion with your mother and leave her alone.

ginghambox · 31/01/2017 00:09

OK what you said, but you are talking bolllocks.

Ftlofg · 31/01/2017 00:10

Can i ask what class she would be/i was back then? She didnt work, claimed benefits as a single parent as her live in partner was abusive and wouldnt give her enough money to live on. Dm may have lead a mostly above board life, but sf most definitely was involved in some dodgy and most likely illegal scams. But our house was always nicely decorated and clean as were we. But we lived in abject poverty and fear and looking back, me and my sibling were without a doubt the feral children running around the streets that i've also heard referred to on mn fond childhood memories of neighbours always complaining about us. For me, it just was what it was.

Three people I know who have PIP have all had their claims rejected after having received it for several years. One is my son who has cerebal palsy and his severe mobility issues have suddenly become "mild weakness". My dad who is profoundly deaf and has other health issues, he suddenly doesnt need the same help despite getting worse. My friend who has severe arthritis meaning he cant walk further than about 30 metres has gone from full mobility awarded to nothing at all.

Dont tell me that this has nothing to do with the Tory cuts.

Ftlofg · 31/01/2017 00:12

Well when she is moaning to me about her pip being cancelled/not renewed and she is worrying about money should i tell her its none of my business?

OP posts:
HollywoodStunt · 31/01/2017 00:13

Because most people if forced to vote would vote Conservative.

I dont agree with that, it's armchair socialists who dont bother and I know that from years of canvassing. Tories go out to protect their interests hence the name conservative

VeryBitchyRestingFace · 31/01/2017 00:18

Well when she is moaning to me about her pip being cancelled/not renewed and she is worrying about money should i tell her its none of my business?

Just nod and make the right noises. Sometimes people just need to let off steam (including you, presumably - here?)

Have you asked her what/who she thinks is responsible for the cuts to benefits?

Ftlofg · 31/01/2017 00:19

Why do you think you should get to suggest to another adult who they should vote for? People do this all the time, its called canvassing, or adult discussion. I cant frogmarch her to the ballot station and direct her hand to which box she picks but i can certainly advise her which parties are definitely not going to be in her interests in all honesty unless, as above i am wrong and voting Tory is in her interests, but please feel free to show me where.

OP posts:
Ftlofg · 31/01/2017 00:21

Of course i did, she blames the government obviously. They hate disabled people and are only interested in making the rich richer.

OP posts:
Ftlofg · 31/01/2017 00:24

And to add to above, she is still entitled to make up her own mind who to vote for regardless of my political opinions. Although if she did vote Tory it would be the proverbial Turkey voting for Xmas.

OP posts:
ginghambox · 31/01/2017 00:24

Point proven, armchair socialist shout do as I say all the time but can't be arsed actually doing anything. exept signing a pointless petition trying to stop an elected head of state visiting.

caroldecker · 31/01/2017 00:25

The Conservatives and Labour party have the same aims, just different views on how to get there.

Ftlofg · 31/01/2017 00:29

Also having to laugh at the people accusing me of being a leftie, usually on discussion boards im accused of voting for a party with right wing ideologies. Cant bloody win Grin.

OP posts:
VeryBitchyRestingFace · 31/01/2017 00:30

People do this all the time, its called canvassing

You don't canvass your MOTHER, you eejit.

Go and join a political party, pay a membership fee, attend their meetings, AGMs, marches, demonstrations and then go canvassing the rank and file on dark, wintery nights, getting doors doors slammed in your face and told to F off.

But leave your poor mother alone and stop assuming you should get to tell her how to vote.

Ftlofg · 31/01/2017 00:36

Very, you seem very aggressive and over invested in this thread. I think take a chill pill and calm the fuck down will suffice. I wasnt canvassing my mother, i was having a political discussion with her. She knows fuck all about politics other than the Torys seem to be shafting her.

And actually if someone, mother or not, is bitching about how her benefits are being cut and how the government is to blame, then i do feel that i can respond with actually unless you vote, and your options are xyz, dont expect me to have any legitimate sympathy for you.

OP posts:
Ftlofg · 31/01/2017 00:38

The Conservatives and Labour party have the same aims, just different views on how to get there. Id agree that i'd also share that view.

OP posts:
Ftlofg · 31/01/2017 00:40

sorry gingham, i didnt really understand your second last post, what did i say was ok and what did i say was bollocks? Its not clear what you think from that post.

OP posts:
HollywoodStunt · 31/01/2017 00:40

OP even though you can't change her failure to vote I hope she appeals and wins and wish the best for her

Ftlofg · 31/01/2017 00:43

sorry gingham, im not sure what your previous post alludes to neither. Are you calling me an armchair socialist? I can assure you i have signed no petitions regarding Trump not my president, not my problem yet

OP posts:
Ftlofg · 31/01/2017 00:48

Goodness i hope she wins her appeal too or else im going to end up financially bailing her out for god knows how long as im not sure how she'd survive. If she is not entitled to pip, i assume she will get kicked off income support(?) and have to claim jobseekers or esa if that is still available. Regardless, it is still a lot less than what she survives on now.
