AIBU To Think Adressing A Child As Sexy Is Wrong?

I work in my local shop, and most customers are lovely though some are less so

On my shift this morning a mother was addressing her child as "Sexy". As in "Hi Sexy" "Want some juice Sexy" and "Give The Lady your penny Sexy"

The child would have been about 3 or 4 and I know it's none of my business, and if people have nicknames for their child, then that's fine.

But Sexy seemed a bit off or am I being an old fuddy duddy?

Gobsmacked that anyone would do this, let alone that it's apparently commonplace.Confused

greeeen · 26/01/2017 19:58

Not quite the same but someone I know constantly says my DD (9months) is flirting when she smiles/interacts with a man. "Oh she is such a flirt!" "Flirting already!" Etc it makes me irrationally angry and disgusted even though I'm sure they don't mean any offence and are trying to be funny. I just want to shout stop sexualising my baby!SadAngry

Really common round here - a mum kept calling my daughter "sexy". I asked her not to - she genuinely didn't get why I didn't like it. It is a weirdly common thing round here - lots of mums do it. I loathe it.

Italiangreyhound · 26/01/2017 19:59

WEIRD, WEIRD, WEIRD! Kids are not and should not be called sexy!

zukiecat · 26/01/2017 22:32

I haven't heard it used here before, I am also gobsmacked that it's commonplace elsewhere

Not a word I ever used (or would think of using) for any of my DC

It's not right is it; very strange and inappropriate 😲

SingingInTheRainstorm · 26/01/2017 22:50

Definitely weird. YANBU

MommaGee · 26/01/2017 22:56

could her name be something very similar to sexy and you misheard? just hoping...

zukiecat · 26/01/2017 23:07

No MommaGee

It was very definitely and very clearly "Hi Sexy"

YANBU. I was going to say its borderline perverted, but. It is full on perverted

ThaliaLuxurySpa · 26/01/2017 23:29

Inappropriate and very strange. Makes me feel quite ill, actually.

WetPaint4 · 26/01/2017 23:35

Yep, definitely weird. Nothing about a child ever needs to be 'sexy'. I would let a person know I was uncomfortable if I heard them refer to my niece or nephew in that way.

CantChoose · 26/01/2017 23:35

I've heard this several times before. I don't think anything untoward is meant by it but I definitely wouldn't do it myself.

RochelleGoyle · 26/01/2017 23:41

It's horrible and inappropriate. Probably not meant with any sinister intent but mindless all the same.

cbigs · 26/01/2017 23:57

Grindog called sexy 😂😂
Awful op. Just why? 😖
