To think parking on these double yellows is inconsiderate despite blue badge?

There is a long road between 2 schools which is used by parents to park on for school run and means traffic coming in either direction has to give way as only one car width can pass parked cars. This road is also on a double decker bus route and is absolute chaos at pick up/drop off. Recently double yellow lines have been added in the middle to allow a passing place and traffic wardens often patrol to prevent people parking on these and school markings. However, there are 3 blue badge holders who park on these lines every day so it is chaos again and often gridlocked. I vaguely know these people through school and in each case it's the driver entitled to the badge but they always have a passenger who actually gets out to pick child up. All the passengers stand by the cars chatting before pick up and I heard them laughing about how they make DP bring them up the school every day as if they brought their own car they'd have to walk further. One of the others then laughed and said it's great they've got their own parking space and they don't have to leave home early to get a close spot! I am fully aware of why blue badge holders are able to park in areas restricted for others but AiIBU to think this isnt on? Finally seemed to be a solution to the chaos and now it's terrible again!

Peng that has nothing to do with my question.

I'm curious to know what they said.

Why not? Confused

I think it's fairly reasonable as part of a progressive 'conversation'.

Do you never ask questions during a conversation, out of curiosity?

TBH, it is scenarios like the one in the OP that cause hassle for people who genuinely need to park in places because of their disability.

It seems a little unbelievable that all 3 have parters who are disabled, all 3 have partners drive them to school to get better parking and all 3 were overheard laughing about it.

bumsexatthebingo · 25/01/2017 14:11

If it's anything like most schools there are parents who park on the pavement,on the zig zags, over driveways, at junctions, stop in the middle of the street and chuck the kids out at the gate etc etc. A lot of parents act like dicks when taking their kids to school because they are running late, can't be arsed walking and are inconsiderate of others. But lets focus on the 3 with blue badges Hmm

Also that all 3 park in the same, dangerous position every day.

catsarenice · 25/01/2017 14:58

They park there because it's obviously always free as double yellow lines!

The reason I haven't focussed on those parked on corners, keep clear etc is that they are obviously in the wrong. I was unsure about the blue badge holders hence why I've asked if iabu

You could get them to be checked by traffic wardens but I suspect then they would just get said disabled partner out of car to qualify for the space. Which would still make it "worth while" if it's that or parking miles away.

TheNaze73 · 25/01/2017 15:13

That would piss me right off

mollyblack · 25/01/2017 15:15

I have a blue badge and it really boils my piss when people abuse the system, it undermines everyone else's integrity and needs. Yes you can park on double yellows but only if its safe and the disabled person is getting out.

IcaMorgan · 25/01/2017 15:18

Ask the council to put the lines on the kerb (not sure what they're called) and they won't be able to park there even with the BB and should sort the problem

Stormtreader · 25/01/2017 15:22

Ask them to put double red lines on, no stopping for any reason.

AndNowItsSeven · 25/01/2017 15:24

Yes and then blue badger holders who are getting out the car won't be able to park!!

HelenaGWells · 25/01/2017 15:29

They are misusing the Blue Badge.
And misunderstanding its use.
They are not entitled to use the Blue Badge if the holder is not getting out of the car.
They are not entitled to use a Blue Badge on double yellow where it causes an obstruction or safety issues.
and
A Blue Badge holder can use the badge in whatever car they are travelling in, it doesn't have to be their own car.

This. It's not a free pass to park wherever you like. You cannot cause an obstruction or a hazard. I would tell the nice friendly pcsos tbh I don't imagine they will look to kindly on
It.

CatAmongPigeons · 25/01/2017 16:26

I'm sure as a family there are a lot of times they struggle getting about if they qualify for a blue badge so I wouldn't begrudge them a convenient drop off. Why not get angry at the many people who are driving to school who could walk?

Everything bumsexatthebingo says - day to day life is difficult enough with a disability, how can you begrudge them ease of parking.

catsarenice · 25/01/2017 16:29

Because it causes problems! The lines were put there as a much needed solution to congestion and now they're useless. I don't see how it's any better for the blue badge holder to park there or 10 minutes away because they don't leave the car

OP posts:
bumsexatthebingo · 25/01/2017 16:40

You've still not explained what 'work reasons' there are that would tell you whether the other person in the car has a hidden disability. Report them to the patrolling traffic wardens if it would make you feel better but you seem a little overinvested for someone who doesn't even use a car for the school run.

catsarenice · 25/01/2017 16:54

I just want my child and other pupils to be able to cross the road safely, for the emergency services to be able to get through when required and for the strategies that have been put in place to assist this to be allowed to work. If that makes me over-invested then so be it. If the actions of three drivers should be a priority over the safety of almost 1000 pupils then clearly IABU.

OP posts:
JanuaryMoods · 25/01/2017 16:59

If they aren't leaving the car then they are misusing the badge which is illegal. Take a photo of them and report them.

bumsexatthebingo · 25/01/2017 17:41

I thought you came on here to ask if ywbu? Clearly you're certain yu're not so why bother posting?
The roads around my kids school are gridlocked at drop off/pick up times. It's not a danger to my kids as I don't try to cross them over the road in unsafe places like between parked cars. I walk further and use the crossing.
If the driver got out of the car instead of the passenger (who may or may not also have a disability) would that make it any better or safer? If it isn't safe for people to park there at all then the restrictions need to be changed.

catsarenice · 25/01/2017 17:57

I did want to know if iabu to think what they were doing was out of order. Clearly most people agree it is. There are no crossings by the school so the stricter the parking is enforced the safer for everyone.
