to complain about hand car wash staff?

WhereIsMyBlueCastle · 24/01/2017 12:39

Went to a local supermarket this morning and decided to have my car cleaned - there is a hand car wash in the car park. Done my shopping and looked out of the window to see if the car was ready. There were some 3 people still cleaning, doors and boot open. Now, as DS is learning to swim I have a float and this long foam noodle/woggle in the boot. While I was watching, one man took this noodle, looked around, swung it and slapped his female colleague's bottom and then put the noodle back in the boot.

I went to collect my car, talked to the person in charge and he agreed it shouldn't have happened. He called his staff and asked me who it was, but I couldn't tell. They all just stared at me in silence as though I was some kind of a monster.

WIBU to complain?

Picking up on someone said they get paid minimum wage - possibly they don't even get that...and might be trafficked
www.newstatesman.com/politics/economy/2015/11/dirty-dealings-how-car-wash-became-hub-human-trafficking
And recently this story www.thetimes.co.uk/edition/news/car-wash-worker-kept-as-modern-slave-electrocuted-as-he-showered-z037kp0r9
I thought you were going to complain about their conditions...not them...
I agree with others - not a job I'd like to do, especially in Winter ...if they can have fun whilst doing it and do no-one harm good on them...

highclere · 24/01/2017 13:39

I never thought much about car washes until I read a fantastic book (title escapes me) about a recently arrived immigrant and the misery he endures working in one of these places, his sodden trainers covered in a plastic bag, the freezing cold hands, the pittance for pay. And worse (some have been linked with trafficking etc).
Now have a think whether kicking up a massive fuss about a bit of foolery with a noodle was really appropriate here OP. You had your say - now you should leave it.

It must be a power trip thing. I can't fathom how else people get such a self-righteous, stick up the arse buzz from complaining about such petty non-incidents on the part of low-paid service industry employees. We had the complaint about the shop assistant who smelled smoke on returned clothing, the delivery guy who wanted to use the loo and now - fucking noodle-gate?!

Please just go away, OP, far far away and take any others like you along with you.

pepperpot99 · 24/01/2017 13:44

I thought you were going to complain about the fact that most of the staff in car washes are paid a pittance and have no work protection, no union membership, gangmasters......but no.

user1477282676 · 24/01/2017 13:46

Splendour...I don't think it's about power for all people. I for example would be disgusted at what I saw because I have OCD. But...I know that my problem is mine and that most people wouldn;t care...so I'd leave it and not complain.

The pool thing would have to be thrown away though.

Such is life with OCD.

I had to bin my perfectly lovely, brand new gardening gloves last week because my FIL tried them on.

In my mind this was an outrageous act...like putting on someone else's knickers!

I know most people would not think twice about it though. So when he'd gone, I tried to get over it but couldn;t so threw them away.

Moreisnnogedag · 24/01/2017 13:47

I don't like people going through my stuff. Picking up a sizeable obvious pool noodle - meh. They didn't drop it in the mud or anything.

Its freezing out, it's a miserable job and they had a tiny laugh before returning to work.

I can't imagine they get paid much at all. Say three people take 15 mins to completely clean car, they maybe get two customers an hour and earn a tenner for it. Say they work six hours that's £120 with maybe another £30 for odd extra customers. So they might work for £4 - £8 an hour outside in the cold and wet. Fucking hell that's depressing.

SuperFlyHigh · 24/01/2017 13:48

Poor car wash staff.

You do realise one of these poor men who lives on premises of car wash, got electrocuted by a shower in the accommodation fitted by his boss?

And you deny them a bit of fun?!

I'd have laughed along with them.

Sad woman.

FutureMrsRanj · 24/01/2017 13:51

I quite enjoyed this read, of course YABU though OP, or was this a special noodle? A family heirloom? Although even if that is the case, I would not think it a great idea to leave in the hands of the misogynistic bottom noodlers or indeed anyone you don't know particularly well

SplendorSolis · 24/01/2017 13:52

User The point is you wouldn't complain, it's those who would over something so trivial who I believe are on a power trip.

And for those who say they don't want people going through their stuff, then don't leave stuff that has to be moved out of the way or that you don't want 'gone through' whatever the fuck that means in your car when you get it washed/valeted.

thecatsarecrazy · 24/01/2017 13:54

Its annoying but believe me I would trade with you right now.

user1477282676 · 24/01/2017 13:55

Splendour but that's only RECENTLY that I would not complain. I've matured and become more aware of my condition. A few years ago I would have complained.

t's not about power trips for all of us you know...us complainers I mean.

Sparklingbrook · 24/01/2017 13:58

Somebody should get the Noodle's take on the situation.

to complain about hand car wash staff?
Pinotwoman82 · 24/01/2017 14:06

Oh please lighten up! I thought you were going to say they nicked something from your car.
If I would have seen that I would have had a laugh to myself and then forgot about it.
All these people complaining about small insignificant things, god knows how you actually manage when something worse comes up.
Or go one better and phone the head office of the supermarket and get the poor bloke bloody sacked, hey???

Chopchopbusybusy · 24/01/2017 14:18

I always really feel for the car washers in our local Sainsbury's. It must be a very grim existence indeed to do that job. I usuallybhate the threads where everyone piles in to slag off the OP but in this case I'm happy to join in.
What exactly did you hope to gain from the complaint?

pinkieandperkie · 24/01/2017 14:25

Oh dear, at least I now know what a noodle is. Smile

WhereIsMyBlueCastle · 24/01/2017 14:27

Thanks for all comments.
I'll go back and apologise for my appalling behaviour Grin

EverythingEverywhere1234 · 24/01/2017 14:53

This is amazing Grin well taken that yabu, OP!!

BigBadWolves · 24/01/2017 15:01

Best AIBU ever 😂

Op re-emerges to proclaim thread is identifying...or to add that the noodle now no longer floats 🤦🏼‍♀️

candycoatedwaterdrops · 24/01/2017 15:18

This has made me laugh a lot, particularly "arsecooties".

PUGaLUGS · 24/01/2017 15:23

DS17 works in a hand car wash part time whilst at college he gets a fiver an hour. He hates it.

RufusTheSpartacusReindeer · 24/01/2017 15:36

where

You were not being unreasonable to complain

RufusTheSpartacusReindeer · 24/01/2017 15:37

I wouldnt have complained myself Grin

But thats because i would have felt a twat saying 'you played with my noodle'

Grin
Chloe84 · 24/01/2017 15:41

I didn't like the fact that someone takes my stuff and plays around with it, be it a noodle or something else.

Woe, I thought you complained because you thought the woman was sexually harassed but you are worried about your noodle.

YABU.
