I'm going for the 1st time today and need to know what's good to stock up on!

OP posts:

The outdoor reared pork chipolata sausages are good IMO. I like their dry cured bacon too. I think the Lurpak spreadable dupe is good now - they have really improved it. Olive oil, vegetable stock cubes, jam, peanut butter, porridge oats, sultanas, free range eggs, beetroot crisps, premium tinned tomatoes. Fruit and veg all good. Crunchy cheddar, goats cheese, stilton, fresh salmon fillets, greek yogurt, organic milk. The lime tortilla chips are nice, and they are vegan. In fact, they do quite a lot of nice vegan things (DD vegan). They sell a limited amount of beans and pulses, and don't stock red lentils. I really like the premium Prosecco, and they are selling Canti at a good price at the moment. I'm not going back to Tesco or Sainsbury's now until they send me some money off vouchers, which they seem to do if you've not been in a for a while!

Our Aldi is always mobbed! Aldi popped up here about 20 years ago and I hardly bought a thing there. It has changed so much for the better and is bloody brilliant. Wine and champagne is lush.
You save a lot of cash there.

HeirOfNothingInParticular · 22/01/2017 14:57

Forgot to mention Brioche buns. They are lovely, and half the price of anywhere else.

Magzmarsh · 22/01/2017 15:00

The maple syrup is very good quality and great value

Elendon · 22/01/2017 15:00

flour of course!

Forgot to add that the frozen french fries are better than waitrose.

JustSpeakSense · 22/01/2017 15:00

Nuts
Vegetable crisps
Brioches
Cheeses
Crackers
All their chocolate
Cold meats
Salmon
Steaks
Wine
Balsamic glaze
Olive oil
Frozen chips
Pickled gherkins (with chilli)
Baking products

I avoid:
Laundry detergent (funny smell)
Toilet rolls (very small not good value)
Tomato ketchup
Custard
Fruit & veg is getting better

Elendon · 22/01/2017 15:06

They used to do a gorgeous half chicken to roast in the bag. Sadly no more.

Brioche buns, burgers and the white onions, with sliced cheese, tomato and salad of choice with the french fries. My dd2 and I love this meal! All from Aldi (though sometimes it's the cornish cheese from Waitrose, if I'm feeling a bit flush).

MadameMaxGoesler · 22/01/2017 15:18

Veuve Monsigny Champagne

IonaNE · 22/01/2017 15:25

YABU. OP, you make it sound as if it's a lifetime trip to Disneyland at long last. It's a cheap supermarket. Go and buy what you need and what you would buy anyway.

PoppyFleur · 22/01/2017 15:28

I really like:
Brioche burger buns
Brioche hot dog buns
21 day matured rib eye steak
Lime and ginger salmon fillets
Cod fillets
Sea bass fillets
Thai prawn fishcakes
Feta cheese
Cornish dairy butter
Special select pizza range
Magnum washing up liquid
Jar of roasted artichokes
Tinned pulses
Sliced Emmental cheese

Tried but disliked
Sauces, chutneys and pickles - not remotely as nice as Waitrose own

Fortybingowings · 22/01/2017 15:31

Glasses wipes are fab if you wear specs

MrsJayy · 22/01/2017 15:31

My dd loves the chirizo says it is the best she has ever tasted. Their tarts and quiches are delicious. Their meatballs are nice but dont always have them in. Their steakcrisps are amazing. Yoghurts

MrsJayy · 22/01/2017 15:33

Dh likes the jam but it goes off quick

eckythumpenallthat · 22/01/2017 15:38

I'm not one for jarred sauces but We really like their fajita season and sauce jar. So handy to just have in.

Our local aldi has now started selling spirals see veg which is great!

Their nappies and baby wipes were great when we were at that stage.

DH prefers their Coke to branded I'm not so sure but rarely drink it enough to care

We like their Italian deli hams

The raspberry preserve

Their cereals are nice than branded

Ooooo and their rump / sirloin steaks are better than any other supermarkets (but not as good as the butchers)

Shockers · 22/01/2017 15:40

Lentil curls, avocados and 600ml bottles of organic wine for £2.99.

And bird houses!

Honeyandfizz · 22/01/2017 15:41

Brooklea Greek yoghurt. Not Greek style but the proper stuff, absolutely divine and the best Greek yoghurt I've tried. Think it's around £1.29 which is much much cheaper than Fage and better imo.

Agree with the Brioche buns, lovely toasted with fish fingers. Yummy!

GladAllOver · 22/01/2017 15:51

Moser Roth chocolate.
Dishwasher and Washing machine products
Moser Roth chocolate.
oh, and
Moser Roth chocolate.

Servicesupportforall · 22/01/2017 15:56

magz totally agree with the steaks being good especially the rib eye and so big you can share one.

The salmon is delicious and love the curry sauces with the powder in the lid.

Magzmarsh · 22/01/2017 16:02

Agree about the powder spice and sauce jars service. I'm slightly obsessed with Aldi if I'm honest 😁

CheshireChat · 22/01/2017 16:10

The white chocolate with coconut and something else crunchy!

The wet wipes are good and we liked the nappies when DS was smaller (up to a size 4), but they're quite a bit bulkier than pampers for bigger sizes.

Prefer the meat from Lidl, in fact I prefer Lidl overall, but I still go to Aldi for the wipes.

CuppaTeaAndAJammieDodger · 22/01/2017 16:15

Pesto Rosso - bloody gorgeous either straight out of the jar as a dip or with pasta as usual (sometimes mix in a bit of low far creme fraiche - yum). Sadly currently on an exclusion diet (food intolerances) so can't eat it Sad

Doolallylally · 22/01/2017 16:17

I buy all washing machine products from Aldi. They're a good price and do the job. Their washing up liquid is excellent, very cheap and as thick as Fairy.

Servicesupportforall · 22/01/2017 16:18

Grin they could use this thread in an advert!

Seriously the best thing we did was switch from Sainsbury's. Saved us pounds literally

Servicesupportforall · 22/01/2017 16:20

Also they don't keep bloody changing the isle layout do you know where things are. Used to drive me nutty the way Sainsbury's kept moving things around.

Like to be in and out quickly so it's great for that.

ellenlove · 22/01/2017 16:22

I like the four little ice cream sundaes, in a long box. They are all in little plastic pots with lids, that are great to reuse in the freezer. Their clotted cream is lovely, and the profiteroles as good as M&S.
