All i want are tubes of orange smarties. They are the only ones with flavour. Shall I write to them and ask them to make only tubes of orange smarties?
Will anyone join me in this quest?

Fair enough to explain why you boycott but I'm a bit shock that you have obviously pushed it at people to the extent that you have 'almost eradicated it'

I've been gentle, honest! There's been no lecture, no pushing. It came up in a chat with the African colleague because she asked why I'd brought my own coffee in. As it happens it's real coffee because I don't like instant but I also mentioned that I don't use Nestle products. She asked why. And then it happened that the coffee ran out and I was the only one going near a shop that night. It happened to be M+S who don't sell Nestle. They liked the new coffee better than Nestle so said they would rather have that from now on. Easy win.

I'm not twisting anyone's arms or demanding anyone does anything!

Thank you Hecantbeserious an adult and polite way to talk to people and influence them. You must be a thoughtful person and not a patronising twat.

Andrewofgg · 21/01/2017 20:13

Following your moral compass (your words) = doing it because it makes you feel good (my words).

So unless you think people should be entitled to force others to take part or that it is valid even with no sacrifice, we don't differ in substance. Just in words.

OhSoggyBiscuit · 21/01/2017 20:22

Moreover, this thread has nothing to do with Nestle's dubious practices, just a love for orange flavoured Smarties.

Andrewofgg · 21/01/2017 20:26

Any mention of Nestle brings the boycotters out!

Set of more of a reaction than I wanted.
I just want orange smarties.

Andrew do you think any mention of nestle brings the boycotters out? Wink

What happened to Giant Smarties of the late 90's? Home Bargains sold them for about 20p but no one else remembers them Sad

HeCantBeSerious · 21/01/2017 20:54

You must be a thoughtful person

Almost to a fault. Grin

MistressMerryWeather · 21/01/2017 20:57

Bigtap, I was just Googling about Giant Smarties because of this thread.

I used to love them.

Fishface77 · 21/01/2017 21:00

Ooh giant smarties!
Did they do giant orange smarties?

OP posts:
MistressMerryWeather · 21/01/2017 21:04

I believe they did because I have memories of hating them. :o

Bitofacow · 21/01/2017 21:05

Following your moral compass (your words) = doing it because it makes you feel good (my words).

My words also included the phrase patronising twat let's not forget that.
Does being a patronising twat make you feel good? Same motivation then.
I think I prefer my moral compas which might have some geopolitical benefits (might not) to just being a patronising twat.

Bitofacow · 21/01/2017 21:06

Or you could just like orange smarties, but at least you wouldn't be a patronising twat.

Andrewofgg · 22/01/2017 08:42

Well, it's not my fault that the word "patronising" is a male root, but being patronising (and even a twat) is equal opps, and if your moral compass leads you to tell other people which companies or countries they "should" boycott (as opposed to doing it yourself) then you are in deep in p.t. country. Aren't you?

user1478860582 · 22/01/2017 09:27

The angst a tube of smarties can bring........

Bitofacow · 22/01/2017 13:55

I don't think anyone has TOLD anyone what to do, I certainly haven't. I boycott because of my moral compas, several pp have explained why Nestle are a bunch of bastards. If armed with this knowledge you still choose to purchase their products that it between you are your conscience.

You seem to determined to insist people are telling you what to do and they really, really aren't. Posters are just explaining their decision. Perhaps that voice you hear is your last vestige of humanity whimpering pitifully and trying to have a say?

Andrewofgg · 22/01/2017 14:30

Bitofacow Let me try this out on you. MWs generally do not recommend one brand of formula over another; but one of DS's schoolfriends lost his mother when he was four, when his brother was born; mercifully rare in the First World these days but it does happen.

The brother was obviously ff and the MW may well have been asked which brand she recommended. If that happens today should the MW recommend Nestle if she thinks that it is in fact the best brand for the baby?

Or should she put her political preferences first and mention another brand?

Bitofacow · 22/01/2017 15:23

Entirely different.
Smarties vs Formula milk. No comparison.

If my child was in a burning house and the only way to save them was to wave Nestle products at them would I buy them? Good grief.

You want me to say I would put my political beliefs first, there are times I do and times I don't. It's personal, as it should be.
What I will say is that I think, as far as each individual is able, we should engage with the political system. Vote, protest, boycott, cheer anything but not standing around saying "what can I do?"

Often people don't know things, as a pp said when she explained why she boycotted Nestle other people she worked with changed their mind. That I think is 'a good thing'. Standing on the sidelines sneering at people who engage is generally 'not a good thing'.

CelticPromise · 22/01/2017 17:05

She should be mindful of her obligation to practice in an evidence based way and say there is effectively no difference between formula brands, according to the WHO code she is not permitted to recommend one, and for unbiased info see the First Steps Nutrition Trust website.

LiviaDrusillaAugusta · 22/01/2017 17:14

Perhaps that voice you hear is your last vestige of humanity whimpering pitifully and trying to have a say?

🙄🙄🙄 Wow - overreaction much?

LiviaDrusillaAugusta · 22/01/2017 17:16

And yes I know you were probably being sarcastic but comments like that are why some people don't get taken seriously Grin

myfavouritecolourispurple · 22/01/2017 17:28

Those of you who boycott Nestle, do you also boycott L'oreal?

Same company group.
