lozzylizzy · 17/01/2017 21:06

I look terrible today, I am blaming the dreary weather, maybe Kate is feeling the same!

Chloe84 · 17/01/2017 21:07

Is it not what happens when you are in the public eye though ??? You open yourself up to criticism, concern , people talking about you ??? It is what makes them money at the end of the day being in the public eye and people will form an opinion ?? They use the press for there own benefit when it suits but the second someone makes a comment it's not allowed ???

This is the scary thing about fans. They think they're being nice but in some ways they think they own the celeb because they're in the public eye.

CrystalMcPistol · 17/01/2017 21:08

But you can't deny that both her and William work hard.

I'm sure people can deny it. I've no idea how many royal engagements they do a month but I doubt it's anywhere near the level that the sloggers, Queen, Princess Anne do.

bonfireheart · 17/01/2017 21:09

I sometimes wonder how she copes she she's on her periods lol. I just want to lay in bed with a hot water bottle, or lie in the bath, or just dress in pyjamas. Last thing I'd want is to get dressed up, wear heels, have my hair done, stand up and give a speech. How can she run to the loo with the press in her face (and judgey mumsnetters!)

All royal engagements are online- I don't understand why it's a competition though :/

Manumission · 17/01/2017 21:11

I bet she can arrange her diary around her Ovia app if she wants to bonfire Grin

CrystalMcPistol · 17/01/2017 21:14

I wouldn't say it's a competition bonfire but if one royal is doing 42 (dull as ditchwater no doubt) appointments a month I'm more likely to think better of them than someone who does 7. I've read that the Queen has strong opinions on workloads too.

Herhighness · 17/01/2017 21:14

I saw her on Monday in our local Spar shop buying a Pot Noodle and she looked knackered.

andintothefire · 17/01/2017 21:15

Herhighness - was she in pyjamas?

bonfireheart · 17/01/2017 21:16

That's coz she's a Queen, not someone married to a prince.

MrsLyons · 17/01/2017 21:18

When the ones doing 7 are still potentially going to be doing engagements 60 years later ... in their 90's... 20 years after most people have retired (even allowing for a sharp increase in retirement age)... I'm going to give them the benefit of the doubt if they have a slightly less frantic work load while they have two young children.

Didyoumeantobesorude1 · 17/01/2017 21:18

She looks absolutely fine, and her name IS NOT KATE MIDDLETON ffs.

CrystalMcPistol · 17/01/2017 21:18

You misunderstand me. I mean that the Queen has strong opinions that all royals should be seen to be pulling their weight. Not just lolling about on country estates.

How do you think professional women manage it? Some of us have to work full days, give rather longer lectures, network, etc, and do a long commute at either end. We don't get chauffeur-driven in to our "work", shake hands for half an hour and leave. Oh, and there isn't an army of servants taking care of our house, children and wardrobe either. I fail to see why Kate putting on some clothes anand giving a two-minute speech (which was, frankly, appallingly delivered) should elicit such fawning admiration.

ChardonnayKnickertonSmythe · 17/01/2017 21:21

The way all of us who work do?

Bettercallsaul1 · 17/01/2017 21:22

I totally agree with you Crystal. I think they've upped their number of public engagements now but, for a long time the Cambridges did far fewer than the other "senior" royals. It was their reluctance to engage in public life that was the main reason for their unpopularity - nothing to do with "jealousy" or personal dislike. Public service - supporting charities and representing the country - is royalty's "job" and the only raison d'etre for its existence in modern times.

Manumission · 17/01/2017 21:23

her name IS NOT KATE MIDDLETON ffs.

Well yes it is.

In UK law women don't surrender the legal use of their own names on marriage. Which is why the occasional MN weirdness about needing a change of name deed to resume use of your birth name is such errant nonsense. A marriage certificate just gives women automatic rights to use an additional name.

Seriously?! I mean seriously? It's 2017. Women manage go to work AND have periods. My goodness.

Sallystyle · 17/01/2017 21:25

I like her. She always looks beautiful.

Even if I had all that money, staff and time I still wouldn't look as great as she does.

Just because she has staff doesn't mean she doesn't do any of the hard parenting.

Manumission · 17/01/2017 21:26

Women routinely work through hyperemesis gravidarum too. Obviously women vary.

Sallystyle · 17/01/2017 21:29

I like Kate but this is a taking the piss statement isn't it? You can't be serious?

I worked a 12 hour nightshift last night in hospital with a wicked period.

I am sure Kate can manage as well, all women have to after all.

nancy75 · 17/01/2017 21:29

I have no feelings about kate one way or another, all I can think is that she must have had bloody cold legs today. No tightsShock what's wrong with you woman it's freezing!

Chloe84 · 17/01/2017 21:36

Last thing I'd want is to get dressed up, wear heels, have my hair done, stand up and give a speech.

As LordRothermere says, plenty of women do this everyday without the help of an entourage, even when they have their period. I load up on Nurofen and ensure I have lots of pads. I do the above as part of my job, but give a presentation instead of a speech (thankfully not every day). I also have to battle with traffic or public transport and don't have anyone to write my presentation for me. I blow dry my hair straight by myself!

Binglesplodge · 17/01/2017 21:42

My mind boggles that we should be impressed because she works when she has her period... That's just life. Somehow millions of women manage it. And worse.

lyricaldancer · 17/01/2017 21:45

You might want to try the royal section here on Mumsnet, OP.

As to your question Hmm
