to expect a bin in the bathroom?

Recently I've stayed with a very dear friend of mine and close family of DH's. Both households are very hospitable and I love visiting them. BUT. In neither case was there a bin in the bathroom, and in one of them there wasn't even one in the guest bedroom. AIBU not to want to put used cotton pads/buds and sanitary stuff back into my sponge bag, or cart it round the house in my hands looking for a bin?

I hate it when people don't have bins in bathrooms.I was staying with my friend and her dad for a week when I was younger, and he didn't have a bin in the bathroom,so I'd take my handbag into the bathroom and wrap the old sanitary pad in a lot of loo roll and pop it in my bag until I went downstairs to discreetly throw it in the kitchen bin.
but one day I forgot to bring my bag down with me,then when I went back up to the bedroom with my friend I couldn't believe my eyes, but his spaniel had sniffed it out and got it from my handbag and absolutely shredded the used pad and paper all over the floor!I was so embarrassed!
People need bins in bathrooms for wet wipes and used sanitary products.

@Challengedvertically nope. All rubbish must immediately be taken outside. Or hidden in my bag to take homeSmile

melj1213 · 16/01/2017 14:02

I don't have a bin in my bathroom ... but then my bathroom is downstairs at the back of the house, and my covered household bin lives in the tiny "hallway" between bathroom and kitchen, so I don't see the need for a tiny bathroom bin when my main bin is literally the other side of the wall.

If there is anything that needs throwing away you just have to open the bathroom door, drop it in the bin before you walk back through the kitchen to the lounge where we're all none the wiser.

WhatInTheWorldIsGoingOn · 16/01/2017 14:02

I would never consider throwing a used sanitary towel in a friends bin!Shock
I always take them with me and throw them in the outside bin.

I also have confiscated all bins in this house except yeh kitchen bin. I was sick of emptying them.

Gileswithachainsaw · 16/01/2017 14:05

Why on earth would you not throw a sanitary towel in a friends bin.

That's what a bathroom bin is predominantly for surely Hmm

I'd always put a bag in the bin anyway and with a guest it would be emptied daily..

DancingDragon · 16/01/2017 14:07

I am of the no bin mooncup brigade. Tbh its not crossed my mind to have a bin. But I don't want to dispose of other peoples sanitary products anyway.

IWantATardis · 16/01/2017 14:08

PILs house is like this. It's something I find very annoying. No bins in bedrooms either.

In the end, I bought a small wastepaper bin and left it in the guest bedroom we normally sleep in. I didn't mention it. PILs haven't mentioned it. Bin has remained in place (and yes, I empty it myself during and at the end of every visit).

I don't have a bathroom bin. I take sanitary wear out immediately...I certainly don't want a bin of festering pads! Blech!

I don't use cotton wool or anything on my face. I use a flannel and warm water with emolient cream...fresh flannel each time. One in the morning and one at night.

brasty · 16/01/2017 14:11

If you don't have guests, do what you want. If you do, you really should consider them.

SpringerS · 16/01/2017 14:12

Why on earth would you not throw a sanitary towel in a friends bin.

Why on earth would you think it's even remotely acceptable to leave your used sanitary wear for other people to sort through!!!!!!!!!! That's utterly fucking disgusting.

Delatron · 16/01/2017 14:13

I do have a bathroom and bedroom bin. But agree would never want a bin full of festering pads. Would never leave a pad in a bin at a friends house, I'd wrap it up and take it with me but I know that's a bit strange of me.

PrimalLass · 16/01/2017 14:15

I wouldn't want your used sanitary towels etc in my bathroom bin. No thank you.

Nemosnemsis · 16/01/2017 14:15

Why on earth would you think it's even remotely acceptable to leave your used sanitary wear for other people to sort through!!!!!!!!!! That's utterly fucking disgusting.

Why on earth would you be sorting through it? Just pull out the bag and chuck. Do you not have a kitchen bin either? What do you expect your guests to do in this situation?

user1477282676 · 16/01/2017 14:16

I don't even leave my OWN in a bin! It's rank! They need to go out immediately.

Delatron · 16/01/2017 14:17

That's true, I wouldn't even put them in my own bin!

user1477282676 · 16/01/2017 14:17

Nemo...they go to the OUTSIDE bin! Who wants a bloody sanitary towel in the bathroom!?

Gileswithachainsaw · 16/01/2017 14:17

Sort through?

Who goes through a bin? Tie handles up take outside. If I had a guest I'd be emptying the bin daily. You can get those disposal bags too.

user1477282676 · 16/01/2017 14:18

Giles but how long do you leave them in the bathroom bin before you take the bag out? Festering...stinking...

SpuriouserAndSpuriouser · 16/01/2017 14:19

What?! Why is it not acceptable to throw a pad/tampon in a friend's bin? I wouldn't put one in a wastepaper type bin (you know, open top, no bin liner) but I honestly don't see an issue with putting one in a bathroom bin. I am sure friends have thrown tampons away in my bathroom bin, but I have never noticed. Every few days I just take the bin liner out, tie it up and chuck it in the outside bin, no "sorting through" or close examination of the contents involved. What on earth are some of you doing with the contents of your bin?!

ghostyslovesheets · 16/01/2017 14:19

told you OP Grin

there is an entire group on MN who think you shouldn't leave the house when you have your period!

Bluntness100 · 16/01/2017 14:19

I also don't put used sanitary wear in a friends bin, I wrap it up and dispose of it later.

As for the emptying, my cleaner empties all the bins in the house weekly and puts new bin liners in. She actually also supplies the bin liners. This and bed changing makes having a cleaner totally worth while. 😝

Gileswithachainsaw · 16/01/2017 14:19

So bin not ok but walking through a kitchen to the front door touching handles with hands you have used to hold a pad wrapped in paper through is OK?

As opposed to having a bin where the guest can cleanly dispose of and tie up handles and put that outside with clean hands

Chattymummyhere · 16/01/2017 14:19

I have bins in my house at all.

When preparing food in the kitchen we get out a bag fill it as prepping then to the outside bin, toilet roll middles etc go straight out to bin or in a bag in the entrance way to go out in the morning if it's the dead of night.
