to expect a bin in the bathroom?

Recently I've stayed with a very dear friend of mine and close family of DH's. Both households are very hospitable and I love visiting them. BUT. In neither case was there a bin in the bathroom, and in one of them there wasn't even one in the guest bedroom. AIBU not to want to put used cotton pads/buds and sanitary stuff back into my sponge bag, or cart it round the house in my hands looking for a bin?

Nobody's telling anyone to do anything.

Merely offering up alternative suggestions, given that carrying a means of disposing of pads and tampons seems to be so un-doable for many of the people who use them...

Moon cups aren't suitable for those of us with really heavy periods - believe me, I know.

I have learned over the years to take my handbag with San pro (pads and tampons in my case plus nappy sacks for disposal) into bathrooms and if there is no bin, I put the used items in a nappy sack and the in my bag untl I can dispose of it. Yes, it might be adding a small amount to landfill each time but I refuse to feel guilty about that.

To the poster who asked if people kep sanitary towels loose in their bags - I can't speak for others but I have a small make up bag with towels, tampons and nappy sacks. I also have a packet of pocket tissues and some hand gel in my bag at a times, having had some horrendous experiences in toilets in petrol stations/garages in remote areas. When my periods were at their worst a few years ago, I would go through the most absorbentertaining Lilet plus heavy duty pad every 30 minutes. If i was driving a couple of hours to a meeting there wasn't always a handy service station, Tesco or whatever with decent loos en route. I learned to go prepared!

If you carry the means to dispose of your own sanitary items, then it removes ALL the stress that some people seem to have over disposal of them.
Such a simple solution and one that you have complete control over.
Surely that has to be far easier and more sensible than complaining that there are houses with no bin in the bathroom. If there is a bin you can use it, if there isn't, you can still deal with it with no stress and no risk of blocking anyone's toilet.
I honestly do not understand why anyone would repeatedly put themselves through so much angst when the solution is entirely in your own hands.

Iamastonished, I had to move from tampons to towels because I have allergies and low immunity and I'm too much at risk of TTS. No moon cup for the same reason.

Mywinetime, great advice, you sound like the kind of sensible young lady who is picked to be patrol leader in the girl guides. Wink

"Even if they're not, they should be allowed to choose the type that suits them without anyone else telling them to choose a different one."

Umm, I wasn't telling anyone. I was curious. I didn't like towels and found tampons much cleaner. However some posters have posted some very valid reasons for their choices.

Was that a joke, to wash your towels after EVERY use, how can they be dirty if you use them after a wash/shower/bath
