He runs away. All. The. Time.
Im too pregnant and fat to chase after him fast enough and im scared hes going to get lost/ ran over.
And when the baby is here, how am i going to stop him bolting off and have the pram? Ill get a buggy board but i doubt he'll stay on that ever.
3.5 seems a bit old for it though...

Mine wore the backpack til gone four. We also used the phil and teds til just under four aswell,(double strapped in!) our 6 year ols still jumped on the bottom if tired. Dint care what anyone thought, both safe and not grumpy. Do what you need to keep them safe and yourself sane :)

BUt how do they keep those little life rucksacks on? Like I did mine could unclip those in seconds from under 2 so wouldn't have secured them

SantanaBinLorry · 14/01/2017 19:59

@Artandco
Mine too. I put reigns on back to front as well.as the backpack. Same in the puschair/highchair/carseat. Wriggely little bugger with strong fingers!

My son lobs his backpack, but I could imagine that an additional strap (like the ones used to toddlerproof cupboards with a 2-hand clasp) could work?

Kathandkim1 · 14/01/2017 20:11

What about one of those backpacks that clip on like a harness with a strap for you to hold? Maybe your DS could then put a little toy snack or drink in the backpack, like a 'grown-up'?

Mine used to be a bolter. He bolted across a road one day after nursery and I gave him a row and went straight to mothercare and bought a wrist strap. I got him to try it on when we came out the shop and then put it away. I made sure he saw me put it in my bag everytime we went out and told him if he bolted then he would be wearing it. He never bolted again.

I know childminders who use them on 4 year olds when they're pushing a pushchair.

Mine literally opened all childproof stuff. Like calpol, I could never Open the bottle, give it to them and open in seconds. Hardly childproof, adult proof. Stair gates, could vault over friends ones in seconds also. Luckily they liked car seats and prams as they could open them also had they not been told not to.
Oh those plug socket protector? (We never used a so thought unsafe), they pulled them all out at friends also in seconds.

StarryIllusion · 14/01/2017 20:52

Mine has one. I really hate taking him out without it as he just has no sense. He'll just run out in the road or crawl under peoples trolleys.

We had a back back and still use it for big London days out ( he's 4 now) back back has he's stuff in it and there ins bit although not always used makes me feel safe.
Get one better to be safe than sorry

@Artandco, gosh Im remembering it all now! Our stair gates came down at 11months as he climbed over, same with cot! Cupboard clips figured out easily. Evetything hazardous was high up for years, except not on book cases or shelves, as those were climbed also. Umberella fold buggy straps were never tight enought so front AND back reigns, never really stopped him, just took him a bit longerto escape, we'd re-fasten the front as he worked on the back strap :)

My youngest will be almost 3yo when DC4 arrives. He's a wanderer so we have reins and a backpack, when we leave the house he gets to choose which one he wants to wear (if he's not going in the pushchair that is). In places where it's safe for him to go free range - the park, shopping centre on a quiet day, very quiet side streets during the school day, etc - we tuck them in and he can walk without them so long as he holds a hand (except in the park where he's free to run wild).

When the baby arrives he's going on a buggy board too. I'll still be using the reins and will fasten them to the handlebar of the pram so that if he does jump off the board he can't run away.
