To warn you of the dangers of FB Live?

Holy fuck I nearly had a heart attack just then. Got into bed, stopped twatting around on FB and put my phone on charge. Had a nice sleepy roll together with DH. Got up to go to the loo after and picked up my phone. It was on the camera with the 'go live' button flashing Shock. For a horrible couple of seconds I thought I'd just streamed the sound of us shagging to my entire FB. I'm pretty sure I didn't, but it was a close thing.

Can you imagine the horror?

Just remember you're one click away from total mortification. I will be double checking from now on.

Confused That's odd. Have you tested going live to see if it will actually let you? I would cover my camera up and stay silent for a few seconds to see if it works or not.

I've never had the FB app as it uses up so much battery.

I'm glad now!

OverScentedFanjo · 12/01/2017 09:49

Thanks for that info.

I have checked and my Facebook app isn't on the list so hasn't asked for the camera access. I did find that messenger had so I've been about to turn that off, so no more accidental double chin viewings for random messenger peeps.

Trills - that's kind of the point. I don't get extra from the FB app (except loss of privacy) so I don't use it. EBay app makes listing and frequent searches easier, and is good for watch notifications - but if I used none of those then I wouldn't have it.

It's become the in thing for every website to have a corresponding app, and if you have lots of storage it's easy to download it without questioning what it will actually add to your experience.

IAimToMisbehave · 12/01/2017 10:16

Anyone know how to disable it on Android for us non iphone users?

tinyterrors · 12/01/2017 12:11

On Android go to 'settings', 'apps', 'facebook' then 'permissions' and don't allow camera or mic access.

I've removed camera and mic access for Facebook and just tried to go live and it comes up with 'allow access to camera/mic' so you can't accidentally go live if you've turned these off as you'll have to give access first.

AngelaKardashian · 12/01/2017 12:16

No problem!

Trills · 13/01/2017 08:56

MrsHathaway I was agreeing, while also saying that which apps provide extra will vary for different people depending on how they use the website. :)

(not saying it very clearly though, sorry!)

A lot of apps are essentially just a button that launches the mobile website (which is less good than the real website).

MrsHathaway · 13/01/2017 09:26

@Trills who said (not saying it very clearly though, sorry!)

I suspect the problem was actually that I didn't read clearly enough, sorry!
