To warn you of the dangers of FB Live?

Holy fuck I nearly had a heart attack just then. Got into bed, stopped twatting around on FB and put my phone on charge. Had a nice sleepy roll together with DH. Got up to go to the loo after and picked up my phone. It was on the camera with the 'go live' button flashing Shock. For a horrible couple of seconds I thought I'd just streamed the sound of us shagging to my entire FB. I'm pretty sure I didn't, but it was a close thing.

Can you imagine the horror?

Just remember you're one click away from total mortification. I will be double checking from now on.

Thanks, JC23, I think I've sorted it now Grin

HopelesslydevotedtoGu · 12/01/2017 06:16

Thanks for the warning op

I've stopped Facebook from having access to my microphone and camera on my android phone. By settings - apps - Facebook - permissions

HOWEVER I just opened the fb app and clicked 'go live' and a box popped up asking if I wanted to enable the camera and microphone to go live. So it would still only need three clicks to 'go live' rather than two.

HopelesslydevotedtoGu · 12/01/2017 06:17

What we need is a way to turn off the live capability from the fb app

HopelesslydevotedtoGu · 12/01/2017 06:23

I've emailed fb feedback asking for an opt out for 'live', can others do the same? There must be a huge number of users who would never use this option

JanuaryMoods · 12/01/2017 06:30

I accidentally clicked on a friend who was live feeding a tedious task. He could see I was watching and greeted me so I didn't feel I could just click out again. Longest 10 minutes of my life.

user1471545174 · 12/01/2017 06:37

So glad I don't have FB. What an awful idea!

HearTheThunderRoar · 12/01/2017 06:46

I read on the daily mail somewhere that a woman streamed herself giving birth on Facebook live (purposely) Shock

Oblomov16 · 12/01/2017 06:54

Ha ha. This is well funny. Must remember to check I'm not posting anything 'live' : double chins, plucking nipple hair, BJ's etc!! Blush

Oblomov16 · 12/01/2017 07:01

Not sure I've turned it off correctly:
Settings>>privacy>>microphone>>Facebook - turned off.
But what if I accidentally video myself?

AndNoneForGretchenWieners · 12/01/2017 07:06

I was being lazy and worked from bed on Friday morning. I instant messaged my boss and accidentally pressed the video message icon. He got a glimpse of my unfettered breasts in all their glory. I was mortified. I've put tape over the webcam since.

Freedom2017 · 12/01/2017 07:06

If you accidentally do that does the video save to your camera roll?

Freedom2017 · 12/01/2017 07:07

Another reason to avoid facebook.

chocolateworshipper · 12/01/2017 07:20

Another good reason not to take your phone into the bedroom or bathroom!

londonrach · 12/01/2017 07:23

On fb daily and never seen it is it just some fb accounts or an ad on?

MrsHathaway · 12/01/2017 07:55

Aaaaaaaand this is why I only use FB in browser.

I only use apps where the app gives additional desirable functionality over the website - eBay and Pinterest, for example. Facebook doesn't meet my criteria.

Uninstall the app and just go to m.facebook.com when you want to stalk people.

ftmsoon · 12/01/2017 08:19

JC23 Thanks, have sorted my privacy settings.

thecatsarecrazy · 12/01/2017 08:27

My husband streams game playing on the computer in our bedroom. He forgot to turn it off once, don't know how long it was running. Blush

Facebook (live or not) is the absolute work of the devil. Nobody should use it. It should die! I am really confused as to how it became such a thing. Why do people use it Confused

Trills · 12/01/2017 09:10

I find eBay and Facebook to be the opposite way around in terms of the app giving me something additional.

AngelaKardashian · 12/01/2017 09:18

If you disable camera access your FB app (from your settings) I don't think you'll be able to go live. I don't have FB myself but I have done it with Instagram when DD was playing with my phone.

On an iPhone, go to Settings > Privacy > Camera and turn off the Facebook toggle.

specialsubject · 12/01/2017 09:27

Disable all fb apps.

Put the phone down sometimes.

I'm so glad I'm not a teen anymore. I can foresee all sorts of situations. Live FB is so unnecessary Imo. Peers can be cruel and this is another way to torture people. I worry for the DC who will have this in their teenage years.

AngelaKardashian · 12/01/2017 09:36

@navyandwhite the instruction I gave above should lead you to a screen looking like this (except I don't have FB so it's not on my list)
