to want to call dd2 Pearl?

DD1 is called Violet and although I'm not yet pregnant we're planning another baby. If it's a girl I'd dearly love to call her Pearl but dh disagrees. However, he likes the name Ruby, which although it is lovely, is very popular, and hypothetical dd2 wouldn't be the only one in her class. Now I think Pearl is going to be the new Ruby. I think it's a very lovely name with Victorian gothic overtones, like Violet. How can I convince him it's not the name of a stripper. And yes I know about 'pearl necklaces' but the name Lola is popular despite the tranny references in the song by the Kinks.

Looking for some back-up from like-minded people out there!

Pearl is a lovely name.

But since the character (Kim) in Eastenders has a young baby named Pearl, she's very unlikely to be the only one in her class either.

I know two Pearls already and my niece has also shortlisted the name.

Discobabe98 · 28/04/2017 22:08

Pearl's often seen as old fashioned, classic, traditional etc but I actually have really modern, cool, high fashion connotations surrounding it as one of the drag queens on rupauls drag race was called Pearl and she was all of that Grin I think it's a really cool name and sounds well with Violet x

WorraLiberty · 28/04/2017 22:08

Oh FFS I didn't realise this thread is 10 fucking years old! Angry

Discobabe98 · 28/04/2017 22:09

Oh shit me either! I'm laughing. Pearl is potentially 10 now!

Clutches pearls Grin

I think people are shit scared of starting new threads so check to see if one has been started before and then don't realise they are zombie threads.

It's cos posters are like 'ffs, there's been 50 threads on this '

Pinkandwhiteblossoms · 28/04/2017 22:22

It's a perfectly nice name, not really to my taste, but I think you would be unreasonable to override DH on this. I was desperate for Callie for DD1 and Isabella for DD2, but DH doesn't like either.

MrsHoneyMummy · 28/04/2017 22:37

@violetpancakes

Ten years on, please come back and tell us if you have a daughter named Pearl.

Personally I think Pearl is the nicest of the jewel names... but I don't know anyone with the name.

AnnieAnoniMouse · 28/04/2017 22:42

boo you're a proper cockwomble!

I wonder what the OP called her baby?

ALemonyPea · 28/04/2017 22:48

How exactly does one come across a thread that's 10 bloody years old?! Why the hell bump it?

Twoevils · 28/04/2017 22:50

I only realised how old this was when someone replied to aitch Grin

And I was lining up a response involving a Coryl that I know.

SmokeCloak · 28/04/2017 22:50

Mayne boo was googling pearl necklace.

PickAChew · 28/04/2017 22:51

Just had to.

This potential Pearl wot the thread is about could well have a MN account in another 20 years.

to want to call dd2 Pearl?
TheLuminaries · 28/04/2017 22:52

The Only Pearl I knew (would be late 40s now) was an utter bitch, so the name is ruined for me.

PickAChew · 28/04/2017 22:52

10 years, even.

FamilySpartan · 28/04/2017 22:56

I love the name Pearl and added it to our list, but DH hates it (thinks it's a granny's name) and it doesn't really work with our surname. I know one person called Pearl and she's in her 30s and gorgeous!

Homemoans · 28/04/2017 23:00

I have a Violet aged 3 and thought about Botha Pearl and Ivy for my second daughter, in the end we went with Ada

SabineUndine · 28/04/2017 23:03

What about Iona, a lovely and unusual name?

WorraLiberty · 28/04/2017 23:06

Homemoans I read that as "In the end we went with Asda" Grin

pinotnoirismyjam · 28/04/2017 23:07

Since the OP we've had RuPaul's drag race finalists called Violet and Pearl... just sayin' Smile

TeslasDeathRay · 28/04/2017 23:21

Since the OP we've had RuPaul's drag race finalists called Violet and Pearl...

I was going to say, it reminds me of Pearl from Drag Race. Grin

I had a hamster briefly called Pearl. His name was changed to Paul.

MaroonPencil · 28/04/2017 23:28

I did wonder when OP said Ruby was popular, because it isn't so much now.

msgrinch · 28/04/2017 23:30

Pearl... Stripper name.

LauderSyme · 28/04/2017 23:36

I was considering suggesting to the OP that her post crosses an awful lot of bridges before they've been built ..... but by now they're far behind her, whether crossed or not!

I wonder whether a cherished Pearl or Hector Pancakes is out there somewhere, just turning nine, gleefully anticipating their birthday party? Hope so Smile

Cake Cake for Pearl/Hector and Violet

Easter Smile for little Iolanthe

Mumzypopz · 29/04/2017 09:44

Pearl as in pearl harbour?! I don't like it, sorry.
