To think PJ's is acceptable to wear at home

When DH, DS & I are home alone we will all just lounge about in PJ's or trackies.

If we're going out then we will of course get dressed but MIL was completely horrified when she called by unexpectedly at the weekend (she normally calls first to make sure we're in and it's a mad rush to dress everyone, haha) at 3pm to find us all still in our PJ's.

Does anyone really bother dressing up when they're just chilling out at home?

Who cares what you wear in your own home? I wouldn't do it and might think it a little odd if you were expecting someone but were still in your pyjamas but other than that, do what you want to do!

Yes not sure what all the PJ drama is about. Wear what you like at home but get dressed if you are going out, and no PJ' s do not count as ' lounge wear' when in public.

So far in the last few days we have had:

PJs in the supermarket (that went to 1,000 posts)
Husband wearing robe at home for meals
PJs at home
What do you wear in bed?

And that's just to name a few!

Why are all the slummy pj wearers constantly posting about it? They claim they are happy with their choices but the constant pjs threads suggest otherwise. It must be boring sitting about the house in pjs all day perhaps that's it.

We wear 'indoor clothes' that are just as comfortable as PJs but not embarrassing if someone drops in or I have to answer the door. For me it's leggings with a stretchy tunic or soft knitted jumper and slipper-boots. DH wears tracksuit bottoms with a tshirt/jumper.

I don't feel at ease wearing PJs/dressing gown during day unless I'm ill. I think it gives the impression you can't be bothered to get dressed or put a daytime outfit together. Part of my morning wake-up routine is a shower, fresh underwear and clean clothes in coordinating colours.

Why not get some comfortable indoor clothes? Why are PJs nicer to wear?

The only problem with lounging around in PJ's is during the summer when you can hear the ice cream van passing and have a mad dash to get dressed before it drives off.

We do this too and why not. It seemed to upset the Johovas witnesses who called at the door one Saturday morning about 11am. She said "I'm very sorry to disturb you if you're unwell" I said I wasn't unwell, they literally couldn't get away quick enough!

I don't stay in pj's by day but teen dd does! Bit of a habit with her having eczema/allergies, has always been more comfortable in pj's and keeps her going out clothes free from creams ect. However if there is a knock on the door she is gone like the speed of light. She would not go out in them thats for sure.

Why are people on MN so obsessed with pyjamas anyway?

Happily in my pj's. Will change to leave the house but will change back once home.

There no need for all this angst since Gap et al invented indeterminate looking "loungewear".

Wearing pjs all day suggests laziness, no reason to bother getting dressed. It's as far from classy as you can get. I suspect most working parents are too busy on weekends to sit about in their pjs so I would guess it's a fsmily with non working parents and a slovenly approach. Therefore the wearing of pjs as daytime wear has become associated with the underclass. They may get dressed to go to the chippy but unlikely.

I am half expecting a pj company to start advertising soon so many pj threads . Op you can be naked in your own house if you want as long as you are comfy. your mil should unclench

There have been lots of these threads recently, but I think what we can gather from that is that people really do care. For every sensible person that says it's none of anyone else's business what clothing you wear at what times, there's another who will screech that pjs are disgusting, lazy, vile and "common".

I tend not to ask, because I don't care what people think about things like my clothing choices.

HardofCleaning people apparently go to the supermarket and host Xmas drinks in their pyjamas - I hardly think dashing out to the ice cream van is going to be an issue

In fact people seem to do everything in their pyjamas except sleep in them in the Alice-Through-The-Looking-Glass MN world!

The best ones are the ones who change into a separate pair of PJs to go to bed.

Look - many people will think you are scuzzy if you wear them outside of the house - nobody cares what you wear in your house.
