To think Boden shouldn't use "war medals" as a fashion print?

Got their latest catalogue and was a bit shocked to see lots of prints like this one

i can't think why you'd like a medal print. I like flowery prints because I like flowers and find those patterns pleasing. Why would I want to wear a dress with medals? Because I feel I deserve a medal? very odd thinking, can't think it'll sell. I admit, they looked like war medals to me when I saw them and thought it was odd.

Commoditising (is that a word?!) is probably a better way of saying it.
The images they have used are very much closer to medals which are ONLY earned through extreme bravery, not for time of service or 'turning up' medals for different campaigns. Turning that kind of valour into a 'fashion' item makes me feel very uncomfortable. But maybe it is only because I HAVE served and have known people willing to make those sacrifices that I feel that way.

throwingpebbles · 10/01/2017 14:21

Not actually sure if it is a word now punt Grin

and I think it's easy for people to forget just what kind of sacrifices people have made to earn such medals, to forget what they signify and what long term consequences can result from those acts of bravery

As much as anything , it seems a very bizarre choice for a middle of the road "fashion" label; I can't understand who would buy it or why they thought it was a good idea.

Do you object to them in sporting events? Confused

HeWoreAGirlsCardigan · 10/01/2017 14:36

Whatever the rights and wrongs that is one of the worst fabrics made into a dress I have ever seen. Who dreams this shite up is what I want to know!

PuntCuffin · 10/01/2017 14:41

Don't be obtuse curry. I have never seen a medal for a sporting event that even remotely resembles a Victoria Cross. And medals for sporting events are awarded to the individuals competing, not worn for fashion on a day-to-day basis.

throwingpebbles · 10/01/2017 14:44

curry the Boden catalogue makes it very clear they are consciously referencing naval /military medals as opposed to any other type (never seen any like that used for sporting events though Hmm)

It's an ugly dress in my opinion but I struggle to see how it is offensive in the slightest.

NotStoppedAllDay · 10/01/2017 14:59

Only on mumsnet!!

Some journo is going to enjoy ripping MN apart...again....posting ridiculous threads like this makes us look like the bunch of mad mothers they already think we are! 'Dimwit mumsnet taking offence at a dress'

Can just see it now. Thanks op Hmm

JustSpeakSense · 10/01/2017 15:11

The use of medals doesn't bother me at all. Sometimes I think people are just looking for a reason to get offended.

I do think it's a really ugly print though and the dress is very ugly.

SausageSoda · 10/01/2017 15:52

£50 for that maritime necklace?!? Shock Now, that is offensive if Boden to think anyone would be foolish enough to buy something so hideous and looks like it cost a couple of quid from Claire's Accesories

Ohyesiam · 10/01/2017 16:29

It's come to something if people are shocked by the Boden catalogue. Make sure you don't watch the news, you might not survive it.

BintyMOISTMcGinty · 10/01/2017 17:30

A lot of fuss about nothing Confused

pizzaparty · 10/01/2017 17:49
