Rather than having a go at them on Twitter and describing them as second rate actresses. Hmm

Otherwise some people might just think you're a bit sensitive.

If that's how he's going to react when people call him out on things, he's going to have a very long 4 years in the White House

CNN didn't publish though - there seems to be a difference between what CNN think they said and what Trump thinks they said.

But Trump sees what he wants to see.

I know Lweji but might put a tenner on and get back £200 and buy champagne and clink glasses with DH saying "thank you Trumper you complete arse". Grin

getting carried away here

BlueberryGateaux · 12/01/2017 17:12

100/1 he mentions 'water sports' Grin

PacificDogwod · 12/01/2017 17:28

What I find most upsetting is that clearly there are enough American voters who lapped his facile, dumbed-down, 'Lets make Ameriga grrrrrreat again!' rhetoric up than there are those who think for themselves are able to be a bit analytic questions those easy answers.

Who is keeping the book then here, eh?
4/1 he won't be able to string a coherent sentence together Grin

InformalRoman · 12/01/2017 17:29

I would like to know who was the Republican candidate who originally asked for this investigation, BTW.

It was reportedly Jeb Bush's Super Pac, but this has been denied.

Roussette · 12/01/2017 17:35

My tenner's on the way to you Pacific Grin

BigBadgers · 12/01/2017 17:35

I think CNN referenced the dossier and was the first to mention it existed, but Buzzfeed was the one to release the whole thing. There seems to be much debate about whether they were right to do that, but I think in the internet age it was inevitable and Buzzfeed just recognised that before the more traditional media. It's a gamble on their part and it will be interesting to see how it works out for them in the end.

birdybirdywoofwoof · 12/01/2017 19:49

It's all so awkward- we're meant to be getting cozy with the US what with brexit and all, yet oops, they've elected a psycho and our secret service agents aren't so popular with America or Russia now.

Oh well, it's a beautiful thing.

amispartacus · 12/01/2017 20:40

I am so so looking forward to Trump meeting May.

OP posts:
dibbley · 12/01/2017 20:42

Trump won't be impressed by May. They should send Katie Price.

SanFranBear · 12/01/2017 20:45

I will admit that I thought Buzzfeed was very much a fluffy, here's a list of ten things you can do with corn and look at the state of Kim Kardashian today, kind of thing.

Have I missed something or are they trying to make people take them more seriously. In which case, it may have been worth waiting until there was slightly less 'fake news' buried in that dossier. I genuinely believe there is an element of truth to the report no matter what The Donald wants us to think but as some of the report is known to be false, it's easy for him to state the whole thing is and try and move us all along.

He makes me very angry, scared and incredulous all at once Angry

amispartacus · 12/01/2017 20:54

Trump does like Twitter and short soundbites. It must be hard to use 140 characters when things are much more complicated.

Apparently US Intelligence Adviser James Clapper told Trump that the dossier existed but made no judgement about its reliability.

But Trump said in a tweet:

"James Clapper called me yesterday to denounce the false and fictitious report that was illegally circulated. Made up, phony facts.Too bad"

So someone's not telling the truth.

sanfran Buzzfeed have been dabbling in 'serious' journalism for some time now. They worked with the BBC on investigations about RBS in October showing they were doing dodgy things with small businesses and did a lot of good stuff on zero hours contracts and exploitation of workers.

They do it alongside the '20 tweets about kittens sitting in boots that will explode you mind' articles, which can seem a strange mix at times. Their reporting around brexit and elections in general is pretty good in my opinion. They can do a surprisingly good job of explaining really dry and complex stuff in a way that makes sense of the madness.

I find myself reading it quite a bit for the actual journalism now alongside more traditional papers and broadcasters. I may also really like pictures of kittens sitting in boots :o

BigBadgers · 12/01/2017 21:11

Here is James Clappers statement on the conversation with Trump. Kinda different to the tweet I'd say...

amispartacus · 12/01/2017 21:22

I really hope the media can hold him to account. My knowledge of the White House is based a lot on the West Wing but isn't there a White House press corps who have daily briefings and travel with the President? He will need a good spokesperson.

And not Toby

OP posts:
Lweji · 12/01/2017 21:26

I believe he won't want the journalists around. They ask too many questions.

SanFranBear · 12/01/2017 21:31

Thanks BigBadgers - I may have to have a more detailed look (and perhaps have a look at that kittens in boots article Wink)

I've just watched the footage of Joe Biden being awarded the Medal of Freedom and it is so moving. Now there's a man who could've taken on Hillary and won - although I know the timing was completely wrong for him to start planning a campaign. Such a shame though.

birdybirdywoofwoof · 12/01/2017 21:33

Trump doesn't need briefings! HOW DARE YOU!

He is made for Twitter- he is the perfect social media president, all sound bites and fury.

SenecaFalls · 12/01/2017 21:45

I just saw that presentation to Joe Biden. He is a real hero of mine. He authored the Violence Against Women Act when he was in the Senate.

SanFranBear · 12/01/2017 21:57

A friend met him under horrific circumstances (she had lost her very young son) and she said that he was the kindest man she'd ever met and, I guess due to his awful losses, he just 'got her' and helped her immeasurably.

I think he's a truly remarkable man and his reaction to receiving that medal said it all.

Roussette · 13/01/2017 07:57

Such a moving ceremony for Joe Biden and good to hear SanFran that he's such a good man.

I just wonder how on earth this is all going to pan out - his cabinet (or whatever they call it in US) are directly in opposition to him on so many things that he's said in the past... are they saying this just to get the job or do they mean it..
America should not torture
Russia is dangerous
A wall wouldn't work
climate change is a threat
a blanket ban against muslims is a no
Support for NATO

Will they stand by those views? They've been interviewed saying this, surely they have no choice.

MitzyLeFrouf · 13/01/2017 08:33

I love Joe Biden, the warmth just radiates from him. And I loved the chemistry between himself and Obama.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 13/01/2017 08:33

Today's song to listen to

OhYouBadBadKitten · 13/01/2017 09:45

He has picked Giuliani as his cyber security adviser Confused. Wouldn't you want someone who actually knows something about cyber security rather than someone who an extremely hackable website?

Lweji · 13/01/2017 10:17

Giuliani had to be picked for something.

He and dr Carson can get together in the out of their depth corner.
Near the I'm my agency's/department's worst enemy corner.
And in front of the I'll use my department for personal gain bench.
