Rather than having a go at them on Twitter and describing them as second rate actresses. Hmm

Otherwise some people might just think you're a bit sensitive.

If that's how he's going to react when people call him out on things, he's going to have a very long 4 years in the White House

I'm sorry, I am still giggling at his softly sensual inauguration. I can't stop imagining him in a low cut satin shirt, singing je t'aime while nuzzling bored looking ladies. Probably there will be gold steps and a particularly soulful marching band.

It's almost a shame that the way he is going at the intelligence agencies the CIA will probably pop him off before we get to see the show.

bumbleymummy · 12/01/2017 10:12

No, derxa, he really isn't. My DS cracked up at him saying ISIS was 'number one tricky'. Grin

Roussette · 12/01/2017 10:31

I just hope he isn't going to be a 'teflon' president. I have a feeling not but maybe that's just me being hopeful

How can he get away with the non blind trust for his companies, when the Ethics Chief has slammed his decision to pass it on to the sons. Interesting reading here

Of course he will speak to his sons during the next four years and offer advice and them keep him abreast of his businesses. (It's in bold because I'm getting cross!) The lawyer at the press conference said she had built a wall between his companies and him. What wall? He can read the press, he can talk to his family. It stinks.

derxa · 12/01/2017 10:35

ISIS was 'number one tricky'. Sounds like a line from a bad rap tune Grin

Lweji · 12/01/2017 10:35

What wall?

Maybe he'll send them to Mexico. Grin

More seriously, I think whether he'll be Teflon or not will depend on how amenable to GOP he'll be.
If he pisses them off seriously, they will impeach him. And the Democrats will only be too happy to oblige, unless they think Pence would be worse.
If he plays nicely to their tune, they'll let him get away with murder.

PickledCauliflower · 12/01/2017 10:42

I can't see him lasting long - certainly not the full four years.
He can probably get away with a lot of the nonsense he puts on Twitter, but I wouldn't be surprised if Russia have been blackmailing him. If there is anything in the allegations, he will be gone.

Roussette · 12/01/2017 10:43

Just a tiny bit of the legal woman's speech..
"To further reinforce the wall that we are building between President-elect Trump and the Trump Organization, President-elect Trump has ordered, through his trust agreement, to sharply limit his information rights. Reports will only be available and reflect profit and loss on the company as a whole. There will be no separate business by business accounting."

BigBadgers · 12/01/2017 10:54

If the Russian allegations turned out to be true wouldn't that put the whole of his administration under suspicion. Even if they didn't know about it there would be the implication that they were only in office because Russia chose them to be there. If Trump is serving the Russians than I can't see how Pence could just take over without any of that tarring him as well. The senate would surely have to give serious consideration to chucking the whole lot of them out and starting again. Confused

I still cannot fathom how some people in America looked at the impeccable statesmanship of Barack Obama, and the dignified and unimpeachable way that he, Michelle and their children have behaved throughout the past 8 years, and thought Donald Trump was a fitting successor to him.

It is going to be a long 4 years. Not least for the poor souls who are tasked with managing Donald's social media image - they must be close to despair already.

InformalRoman · 12/01/2017 11:06

Following the money will be Trump's downfall - the salacious stuff is just a distraction.

How come his casinos were losing so much money when everyone else was making money? Who was washing their cash?

RedToothBrush · 12/01/2017 11:09

Trump NEEDS a terrorist attack on US soil for his approval ratings. Or at least something he can claim is a terrorist attack.

LouiseBrooks · 12/01/2017 11:13

Not least for the poor souls who are tasked with managing Donald's social media image - they must be close to despair already.

Not an iota of sympathy from me. They chose to do the job because they are highly paid.

squishysquirmy · 12/01/2017 11:25

An unsuccessful assassination attempt against him, or an attack on the Trump "brand" would be a huge boost to him.
I feel deeply uncomfortable about some of the assassination jokes flying around - if some nutter does try something, I am praying that they won't be Muslim or black. The fallout will be horrible.

Lweji · 12/01/2017 11:28

I can admit that the alternative (Hillary) didn't seem that much better for some. And some people treat the party as a religion. And there are those who are hung up in religion and would never vote for a party supporting the right to choose, or LGBT rights. And some are completely against welfare.

But surely, even within GOP there are better people. Anyone?

Lweji · 12/01/2017 11:32

I think these allegations may have the benefit (if you consider it) of making sure that Trump will not get along with Putin. At least not as much as he promised before.
Anything he does remotely benefiting Russia will be considered as supporting the claims that he's a paid stooge.

It has led to him admitting (to some extent) that Russia did hack the DNC. And saying that he is willing to oppose Russia.

Lweji · 12/01/2017 11:33

There will be no separate business by business accounting.

And he's going NC with his own sons. Grin

And there's no way of unofficial reports being presented to him, such as, ahem, by courier.

squishysquirmy · 12/01/2017 11:43

I've wondered if some of it is a case of people projecting their own hopes onto what Trump stood for, when a lot of what he said was contradictory or ridiculous - that whole "seriously not literally" nonsense. So people cherry pick and believe the rhetoric that suits them, and don't believe the stuff that goes against their values (or convince themselves that he was "joking").
eg, maybe a strongly religious latino voter chose Trump over Hillary because of his abortion stance, but dismissed his anti-Mexican sentiments as "media spin".
Or maybe an anti-immigration gay person voted for him because of the wall, but conveniently downplayed Pence's homophobia in their own heads. Cognitive dissonance is a powerful phenomenon.

In this way he could use the fact that he is not seen as trustworthy to his own, perverse advantage.

RedToothBrush · 12/01/2017 11:52

How come his casinos were losing so much money when everyone else was making money? Who was washing their cash?

Odd isn't it?

Best case explanation: Trump was the worst manager ever. Makes him ideal for President. Hmm
Worst case explanation: Trump was dodgy as hell. Makes him even more ideal for President. Hmm Hmm

From the Daily Mash

Trump, who took the stage looking like he’d just run over his own dog, began his speech by rambling about something or other before denying everything and blaming everyone else.

US voter, Tom Booker said, “I feel a lot more at ease after watching him denying questions about pissing on prostitutes and saying that no one cares about his tax returns.

“Plus, he said that the inauguration is going to be beautiful so that’s that sorted anyway.

“A load of military bands by the sounds of it. Which isn’t reminiscent of North Korea or places like that at all.

“And I’m glad that he ended with the catchphrase from his TV show. That settled my nerves more than anything.”

Democrat voter, Carolyn Ryan added, “I’ll sleep better tonight knowing that as a germaphobe he must have been going through absolute hell shaking all those voters hands when he was out campaigning.

What I can see from the trump fans on FB is that their hatred of 'liberals' seems to outweigh everything - they don't care what trump is, they don't want to know, they're just so elated he's not liberal.

bumbleymummy · 12/01/2017 12:04

Squishy, I think that was the case for a lot of people. Some of the Trump voters I know made excuse after excuse for him, blamed the media for reporting false things about him (even though you could watch videos of him saying these things himself) and constantly brought it back to how much worse Hillary was (quite often because she was married to Bill Hmm. It was painful to read/listen to but they had convinced themselves that they were right and everyone who disagreed with them had been brainwashed by the evil media.

RedToothBrush · 12/01/2017 12:05

Some take him literally. A lot do exactly the above. Trump did little to outline policy really, most of the time he just attacked and abused others. This left the space for others to interpret. As good people at heart, many lack the capacity to imagine just how awful Trump could be and just how un-American some of the things he intends are. They fundamentally choose to see the best in someone who is unproven on a political ticket whereas the contrast was someone who had already lost their trust. Its innocence rather than malice.

This is why, its wrong to characterise all Trump supporters as 'stupid'.

birdybirdywoofwoof · 12/01/2017 12:06

I don't think the word is 'innocence' (I don't think it's stupidity either, but not innocence)

squishysquirmy · 12/01/2017 12:22

It's a willful ignorance - to some extent we can choose to be blind.

I have a family member (who is British like me so no US vote but has strong opinions) who in many ways is intelligent, but gets most of his information from facebook.
He is not a Trump fan, but is adamant that Hillary would be much, much worse and far more dangerous.
He is a member of non-political groups on fb (mainly based around motoring) which include a lot of American members. Posters on these groups post a lot of pro-Trump, anti-Hillary memes (amongst a load of boobs and beer stuff), which he thinks are hilarious (and some of them can be quite witty). At the same time, this family member has been consuming less and less main stream news - I remember a few years ago he would get the headlines from the evening news, sometimes buy a paper but not anymore.
The worst of it is that he makes no attempt to fact check anything anymore - eg he has a strong opinion on how rude the Hamilton cast were to Pence, but has not even bothered to watch the widely circulated footage from the incident.
It is a choice to be that ignorant. I know that we all have our own biases, but if (for example) I saw a poster I respect on mumsnet post something, I don't wholeheartedly believe them without checking - I click the link or google it myself.

I'm still struggling to comprehend that President Trumper is not a wind up, I was convinced that some kinda of hidden camera show was behind the whole lunacy, how can a man with a hamster on his head be the next POTUS??! It's crazy.

Though I'm beginning to think that the hamster is actually controlling the Trumper Men in Black style.

Its horrifying, how can American women have voted for this sexist creature, I have family in America all very sensible strong women who voted for him. Its mystifying.
