To go to A&E

Bearing in mind what's happening at the moment I need your opinions. I've been to the DR this evening for my 6 week old who has a nasty cough/cold. In the last 24 hours she hasn't drunk much and what she has drunk she's vomited back up. She's now refusing to feed and is just sleeping so in the last 7 hours she's had 2oz which she's vomited. She's pretty pale too. The doctor said if we get worried over night we should go to A&E and I will admit I'm worried. Would you go?

I would go to a&e with such a small baby that's not taking milk. Any wet/dirty nappies?

Considering her age, change in colour and inability to keep feeds down I would take her.

Can you call OOH to see if they can arrange direct admission to the paediatric unit rather than having to go via A&E? If not, then A&E would be understandable given what the GP has told you.

Go she's 6 weeks old no one would accuse you of wasting time with those symptoms.

Babies can deteriorate quickly. No one will judge you with a6 week old

Can you get there quickly?

I would phone 111 as it sounds as though baby has possible bronchiolitis and could have low oxygen levels and low blood sugar from reduced feeding. They may well send a paramedic to assess and give oxygen before taking you in if via ambulance you can't get to A&E yourself quickly. This may be a safer option if you are not really near as babies can de-saturate their oxygen levels further when in their car seats due to the position.

When did you see the doctor? Can you rouse her?

She's so tiny, yes go, they told you to if you were worried and babies can dehydrate more easily than older children and adults.

Go the worst that could happen is a wait and sent home. Does yours have a separate child A&E they tend to be very good (been a few times with DS broken leg, scarlet fever leading to sepsis and bronchiolitis)

Definitely go. They will not object to seeing a poorly baby.

What bananas said, call 111 they may send a paramedic. If the baby is struggling to breathe at all car seats are not good.
