To go to A&E

Bearing in mind what's happening at the moment I need your opinions. I've been to the DR this evening for my 6 week old who has a nasty cough/cold. In the last 24 hours she hasn't drunk much and what she has drunk she's vomited back up. She's now refusing to feed and is just sleeping so in the last 7 hours she's had 2oz which she's vomited. She's pretty pale too. The doctor said if we get worried over night we should go to A&E and I will admit I'm worried. Would you go?

I would go to a&e with such a small baby that's not taking milk. Any wet/dirty nappies?

catgirl1976 · 09/01/2017 19:20

Yes I'd go. Hope she's ok.

Mumteedum · 09/01/2017 19:20

I would go to out of hours not A&E

SVJAA · 09/01/2017 19:20

Considering her age, change in colour and inability to keep feeds down I would take her.

StorminaBcup · 09/01/2017 19:20

Yep. She's 6 weeks old - they'd rather see you and send you home all ok.

Gooseygoosey12345 · 09/01/2017 19:21

Yes, go. Your gp told you to for a good reason. Hope baby is better soon

Sidge · 09/01/2017 19:23

Can you call OOH to see if they can arrange direct admission to the paediatric unit rather than having to go via A&E? If not, then A&E would be understandable given what the GP has told you.

gamerwidow · 09/01/2017 19:23

Go she's 6 weeks old no one would accuse you of wasting time with those symptoms.

emummy · 09/01/2017 19:23

A&E

Mumteedum · 09/01/2017 19:24

... Sorry.. Just realised you've already been to doctors. Yes go if you're worried. They never mind with such small babies.

Justme3 · 09/01/2017 19:25

Yes 100%
Go don't give it a second thought.
Babies can deteriorate quickly. No one will judge you with a6 week old

123bananas · 09/01/2017 19:25

Can you get there quickly?

I would phone 111 as it sounds as though baby has possible bronchiolitis and could have low oxygen levels and low blood sugar from reduced feeding. They may well send a paramedic to assess and give oxygen before taking you in if via ambulance you can't get to A&E yourself quickly. This may be a safer option if you are not really near as babies can de-saturate their oxygen levels further when in their car seats due to the position.

MrsKCastle · 09/01/2017 19:26

When did you see the doctor? Can you rouse her?

MrsGosling71 · 09/01/2017 19:28

Echoing what 123 bananas says. Hope your baby gets well soon x

harderandharder2breathe · 09/01/2017 19:50

She's so tiny, yes go, they told you to if you were worried and babies can dehydrate more easily than older children and adults.

Fairybella · 09/01/2017 19:53

I would go. Hope baby is ok

Haudyerwheesht · 09/01/2017 19:53

Yes I'd go

Fairylea · 09/01/2017 19:55

I would absolutely go.

DubiousCredentials · 09/01/2017 19:58

Definately go.

YoHoHoandabottleofTequila · 09/01/2017 20:00

Yes.

Quartz2208 · 09/01/2017 20:03

Go the worst that could happen is a wait and sent home. Does yours have a separate child A&E they tend to be very good (been a few times with DS broken leg, scarlet fever leading to sepsis and bronchiolitis)

Gileswithachainsaw · 09/01/2017 20:04

Definitely go. They will not object to seeing a poorly baby.

DrWhy · 09/01/2017 20:07

What bananas said, call 111 they may send a paramedic. If the baby is struggling to breathe at all car seats are not good.

4men1lady · 09/01/2017 20:08

Yes definitely go.

NewBallsPlease00 · 09/01/2017 20:09
